I lived in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach for 3 years. It was so awesome! Everyone has dogs there (little & big.) Almost all of the restaurants have outside eating areas and the stores have dog biscuits inside so you can feed your dog a treat. I wish that I still lived there now that I have Izzie.... Everyone there is so open-minded about you bringing your furbaby wherever you want. I took Izzie to an intermural basketball game last week. The guy at the gym was like "You can't have a dog in here" when I tried to get her to go on her piddle pad. I sat right next to him for 30 minutes and he didn't even notice her! She started chasing him down the hall and when he picked her up, she licked his face. He then said "just clean up after her, okay?" That's my girl! :D |
I have never snuck (is that a word?) any of my three in a store. Too chicken. Plus, I've gotten a little quicker with the mouth and slower with the brain and hard telling what I would end up doing....probably making a fool of myself. |

I agree, I hate being kicked out of places (we've even been kicked out of outdoor swap meets for having Zoe) but I understand restaurants and supermarkets could loose their business license in CA if they allow pets |
So far so good..... Ive had lil Sam almost a week and he is an official "go" furbaby. He has been to three different Wal~Marts, two Targets, two Big Lots, $ Tree, $ General, Lowes... Quick Check.. oh the list goes on and on... lol I do put him in my carrier that really looks like a purse and set him in the buggy. I give him his bully stick and he is good to go! He pops his lil head out towards the end tho when I go to get my wallet. And I hope that I am prepared to speak with the manager at Target or Wal~Mart if I do get kicked out .... only to say... you know what, if you sell the bags that people can carry them in then you, as a company, should expect to see them being used in your store!!!!! Knock on wood that we dont get kicked out but if we do, its understandable |

Dallas is supposed to be passing some law - and may have already that you can have your dog on the patio of a restaurant as long as they are behaved. |

I take bandit everywhere without a carrier and walmart and costco is the ONLY place that has asked me to leave. I took him furniture shopping last week, and i assume they didnt ask me to leave because they wanted my money.. funny how that works. When I was in Germany people took there dogs to resturants, i guess its not a heath code for them? The table next to us had A german shepard laying in the aisle.. maybe I should move there! |

Actually any establishment that serves or sells food items do not allow dogs for health reasons :) So expect to be kicked out unless you sneak them in discreetly :p The only dogs allowed are "service" dogs |

Luckly, we love Yorkies. But if I were a St. Bernard lover, I would wonder why he couldn't come into the store and a little dog could  Anyways, I have snuck Tia into a couple of stores. The sucess? The right carrier and a quiet furbaby |

It makes sense though... even if you're not allergic, would you want someone who just touched their flee infested, parasite ridden dog touching the fruits you're about to grab? I wouldn't. Grovery stores just aren't the places for dogs. I do take Ferdinand into Target though - and you're only allowed to have service animals in there. I've never gotten in any trouble by having him... even if I did get stopped I'd tell them he was my seeing eye dog or something. ;) |

I am really surprized that people would get grossed out by seeing dogs at restaurants. Would you also decline a dinner invitation to a home that has dogs? Surely you cook at home around your dogs. It's not like they are going to allow dogs in the kitchen. What's the deal? What is the difference? I am not trying to be a smart"donkey," just curious. |
ive brought austin to a ton of places i got told by the manager in duane reade that i have no choice but to bring him more often ( she Has a chihuahua also ) im gonna stay out of the other posts i wont respond |

Ya know this was just suppose to be a funny post. I didn't mean to start a war.. anyway. I thought I could sneak in for a couple minutes. I really didn't think about it. I didn't get upset when I was caught. I just didn't want to make a long trip the next day when I was right there that night. I thought what the heck all they can do is ask me to leave and they did..LOL The post was in a joking way. I respect other people. I know not everyone loves dogs. Just like I don't want someone smoking beside me. I really wish they would make everyone wash there hand before entering a place with food but that is not going to happen. My family had a big falling out at Christmas over my brothers dogs. I don't have a problem with them and would eat right beside of them. My sister on the other hand is not a dog lover and didn't want her kids eating with a dog. It was a big mess with alot of hurt feeling. |
After having raised 5 kids, and being the grandmother of 9, I can truly say the things kids pass around on their little hands, which they use for all sorts of unsavory actions, have given my family one contagious disease after another. I have never however had to treat them for anything they caught from a well cared for little bundle of fur in a carrier, or purse. I understand how some prople feel; but those of us that take our babies with us in defiance of rules, are not uncaring, or thoughtless. We just are addicted to our little loves, and don't wish to make anyone sick; and we hope they don't give our babies anything either! Lol!! Keeping it light, just another opinion. Have a good one all;) ;) |
I take Finnigen to my local 7-11 everyday (gotta fed my slurpee addiction) and I only had issues once, the manager glared at me but before he could speak I firmly stated that my dog was cleaner and more hygenic than 95% of the customers... to which he agreed and I've had no problems since. He's been to one grocery store once real quick trip in, several home depot type stores, and the Dr's office (but only because our Dr is a dog lover and insists I bring him in -- the girls take us right to the back so no other patients see us). I haven't tried the local Wal-mart but as soon as I get my carrier from Tinkerbell's closet I'm going to sneak him in! Shar-Lee and Finnigen |

Yesterday we found a carrier at Petsmart. Not my favorite but for $20, I wasn't complaining. I put Calliope in it and my daughter and I went next door to KMart to try it out. Walked right through a group of about 6 employee's...in my sweet, high pitched voice..."Excuse me...Excuse me...Thanks!" Not a flinch...not a second glance...Nada! LOL :D Oh my gosh I haven't felt like this since I tried to sneak vodka outta the house in high school! Ooops...did I just say that out loud? |

Couldn't have said it better myself.... I love animals, but they carry all sorts of diseases, including e-coli on their paws, and animal dander. Rule are made for the better good of ALL. I don't understand why a certain percentage of the general population feel their personal wishes and desires should override the health and well-being of those who might be adversely affected by anything.....including animals. Especially when legitimate reasons are given.... Francie |
i'm a "rule follower" too. :D i love my harley to death but he is not a kid and does not belong everywhere i go... so he stays home. not that i go anywhere much but he is just fine at home and happy. i would not dream of taking him somewhere i knew he wasn't allowed... and would be totally embarassed if i did and got caught.:2omg: and my dog is really clean (and so are my kids) but that really does not mean anything. |

I know for a fact neither of my dogs carry any diseases as I have had both of them tested by my vet. They also do not carry any animal dander because of how often they are bathed and groomed and the quality of the products that are used on them. My sister has severe allergies and I have had both Jaden and Jewelina tested for Pet dander before going to visit her and the results were negative. As to their paws, they are cleaner than any restaurants table, I'd feel more comfortable letting my 6 month old niece eat off of them than half of the public restaurants. So while I do understand your point, and I agree that if there are stated rules that should be kept but I wouldn't say that all animals have diseases and problems. That is a pretty broad statement... Maybe some do carry diseases and dander but mine do not and I am sure many others do not either. |
