Scammers scammers... Here's my email exchange with a guy who posted an ad on craigslist, trying to rehome a Yorkie puppy... My emails are in red, his- in blue. Enjoy... Hi, I saw your ad on craigslist about a free yorkie puppy. I'm looking for a puppy, would love to provide a loving and affectionate home for your puppy. I'm ready to go pick up the puppy even today, are you located in New York City? I have all prepared for puppy, just was looking for the right puppy to love. Please contact me back. Thank you! Hi, Rosy is the cute little girl i am giving out on adoption - full teacup Yorkshire terrier. Currently, she is 13 weeks old and weighs slightly bellow 2#, so she is expected to be about 4.5# at full growth. She is up to date with her shots and is very current with her vaccines. She is very sociable, home trained, potty trained and has complete paperworks. She has been very faithful to me and will make a wonderful companion. I am a US peace corps volunteer in Cameroon. I took her along here, but the climate is not conducive for her. I just want for someone back home to permanently adopt her and give her the love she deserves. You will only have to pay for her shipping back. Best regards, James Hi, I'd love to provide a great home for your puppy. Is it possible to have the puppy fly with someone in the cabin? I wouldn't want Rosy to be sent as cargo. Thank you. How do I pick her up? Hi, thanks for getting back. It costs $210 to get her shipped back to the states and as much as i want her to regain happiness asap, we can arrange for her to take on the flight tonight. First, you will email me your detailed address indicating the closest airport from where you will pick her up. Then i will book her on the flight and get back to you with the flight information for pick up. Please let me know asap James Hi Mr James, that would be great... I'm using the Escrow service, that way you're safe knowing you'll get your money for the flight back and I'm safe knowing I get the puppy as promised. I am sorry but I heard so much about about the scam recently that I don't want to risk my hard earned money. I'm sure you understand. The 210 US dollars is in the Escrow Account # ZiH 226980-02 and as soon as I pick up the puppy, will be released to you in any Western Union location. Now, the closest airport is JFK in NY, please email me back with the flight details and information. I can't wait to pick up the puppy, thank you so much!! Izabela. hi, the problem is that i don`t have enough money to ship her so that you refund me after ok? I just arrived Cameroon and my credit card is not yet accessible here. You can trust me and everything is going to be alright...i realy wish Rosy back to the states asap. You could also contact the airlines at nelta_travel@airportemail.com .Whatever arrangements you arrive at, please let me know asap James P.s check a copy of my license here attached for your reassurance Hi, of course that is not a problem, how do I pay beforehand? Do you have a bank account that can accept a transer? I'd need a routing number for that... Just one more thing, kind of a little precaution measure for me (I'm sure you understand, after all, there are plenty of scammers out there). Can you take a picture of the puppy next to a piece of cardboard with my name on it (IZABELA)? I'm sorry for the extra trouble, I'm sure you understand though. As soon as I get it, I'm ready to go to my bank. Thanks!! western union the money to my information bellow and get back to me with the details for pick up. I will then get back to you with the flight infos immediately i book her on the flight so that you know at what time exactly to go pick her up at the airport. Also include your detailed address to which i shall be sending her to. Names; James Campbell Address; 52 Joffre Road, Akwa Province; Littoral Town; Douala Country; Cameroon Zip; 00237 test question; place of birth answer; north carolina waiting James Western Union would be very convenient to me, they have a location right down the block from my house. That sounds great! As soon as I get the picture of the puppy with a piece of cardboard with my name on it (IZABELA), I will send the money, $210 promptly - so you can ship the puppy tonight! The detailed address is John F. Kennedy Int'l Airport Jamaica, New York 11430 Telephone: (718) 244-4444 Thanks! if you don't feel comfortable, then we can pass on this ok? I would never push someone to do out of her wish because i won't like to be pushed to do what does not comfort me. I'm in the office right now and you expect me to go get Rosy, take a pic - as if i'm a liar!!!! Thanks for your interest anyways and good luck finding a puppy like Rosy James Does it mean I'm not getting the puppy??  Bummer |
LOLOL That was GREAT!!!! Hey, don't let him get away! Tell him you can wait til tomorrow for the pic, or something! :D I love it when we waste their time!!! |
Hahaha. I bet Mr James really thought he had hooked a sucker there for a minute. Those guys really need to get real jobs and quit scamming people. |
ROFLMAO:yorkietal Too funny, wish I had your patience. |
I love the idea of taking picture with you name on the cardboard!!! That's cleaver!!! |
There are so many scams out there that play on our emotional side. Interesting how he trys to turn it around and try to make you out to be the bad guy. Of course you do not trust him... there is nothing to base it on. Interesting. |

It's good that you let him know you were being very cautious. I liked how you said you used an escrow service (you didn't did you?) for the money. And the cardboard sign. Great ideas. But I wouldn't trust the sign because it can be photoshoped in real easy. |
I love the way you handled that! I was scammed out of $900 by someone supposedly selling a puppy, so good to see you give him the runaround! Martha;) |
Hey, I want Rosie.....aka Clarabella - I wonder  maybe I could contact Mr. James and see if he would send me a pic with her name on it.... Like I am a very patient person, I can wait..... Hey, maybe we could ALL contact Mr. James...... and keep his fingers busy typing responses to the "scam the scammer" plan. :D Who wouldn't want a precious little "full" teacup yorkie. Now a 1/2" full yorkie, I don't know about :) Does full Teacup mean that SHE WILL HAVE EATEN DINNER before the plane trip? |
btw.... You were a real champ the way you handled the situation! If I am ever contacted by a scammer I'll send them your way :) |

OMG you made me laugh outloud reading the "full teacup" remark!! LOL! That was good Chattiesmom!!!! |
I had a guy tell me he was a traveling minister & was in africa, almost same exact words on your emails. But as soon as he said he was in africa but had lived in Ohio & wanted to ship the pup to a good home, why would they take the pup in the first place??? I knew it was a scam, I wrote him back saying Africa huh? I hope you get raped by a elephant, then ate by a lion! LOL! Did you report the ad to admin? you should some people actually fall for that stuff. |
OMG... I love it when people mess with them! I went to the doctor today to have stitches removed from my foot and the nurse was telling me that her sister is going to be buying a yorkie puppy off the internet. She was saying how the puppy weighs 2 lbs full grown and the people selling it are willing to take $600 including shipping! I was like  . I told her to tell her sister that I was sorry to disappoint her, but more than likely it is a scam. I told her all the warning signs and how they almost always insist on western union or money transfer. She told me that she would tell her sister. I sure hope she listens! Those scammers make me so sick! |
This is great! Check out the thread in the General Forum. There's a "Scam the Scammer" thread and i'm trying to keep it going. Not to mention the thread is hilarious! I |
O....M....G......I have the best news. Tonight I have won the Irish and the UK lottery and if that wasnt exciting enough, an OPEC official would like to send me millions of dollars to help him out with his money. This must be my lucky day. All of these millions coming at me from lotteries I never even entered and who would have thought the CEO of a major corporation would need little old me to help him spend all of his money. I am one lucky girl. I am so rich now I can afford to buy everyone here a yorkie or three if they want. I dont know if I can sleep tonight thinking of everything I am going to buy with all of my money I have won today............and I will get it as soon as I send them all of my personal information. I cant wait... ;) |
That is so scamming..... |
Henry James?? or was it Henry Jims...can't remember... LOL..he hit me up too...too funny. I found him on craigslist as well and just messed with him. What a loser. Kristie |
That was great, you really had him going. I would like to string these guys up by their you know whats!! |
His English isn't that bad because he's American, at least it looks like that.. To appear more convincing, he even emailed me 'his' scanned driver license with a name James Earnest Campbell. I suppose it's very easy to find a picture of a NC driver license on the internet. |

I sent an email to the guy and told him I knew he was a scammer and that I have IP address of his computer and gave it to authorities, if I can scare one, the better. But there were already 3 more ads on CL just today about a Yorkie needing rehoming  . I'm off this week and planning on making the lives of those scammers miserable... ;) |
