Please i have a yorkie Question... Ok, i have been rackin my brain worrying about this now for a while.. Ok i have a yorkie that i bought in Brooklyn, NY from a breeder store. She is now 1 years old (in december). The thing is one, her hair is curly and not straight the way i hear yorkies suppose to have them, also, her ears are droppy and hang over, they always have. Why is this? Is this normal? Im going to try to post a pic of her later. Also she weight 9 pounds, its that alot for a yorkie and they claim she is full breed but how with curly hair and 9 pounds? Please if anyone knows about this, share your thoughts. Anyone else get a puppy from here? Puppy Boutique in Brooklyn, ny |
Some yorkie have droopy ear and I think it is pretty cute. They will always look like puppy, if you ask me. The weight can be vary. Small one to larger yorkie. 9 lb is little big side but not unheard of. Curly hair is something I'm not sure of. Do you have AKC paperwork on your baby??? |
Hmmmm....sounds to me like she may have some Poodle in her. Would love to see pictures if possible. |
no its not curly, more like wavy...her ears never went up, i mean she looks cute but why is she weight so much? She dont even look fat, she is actually underweight to me.. |
My Zoe has super curly hair, so did her parents and I've seen other yorkies at my local meetup that doesn't have that super straight hair. |
My girl has floppy ears. There are alot of YT members here that have bigger Yorkies. I think my girl might be about 8 lbs now..she was 7 lbs a few months ago. Can't wait to see pics of your girl! |
Mine can be a little wavy! |
2 Attachment(s) ok here is the pic of my baby Jada..SHe is a pure Yorkie, also i noticed in the last three months she lost all the hair on her ears, the vet told me that was genertic, but she had lots of hair on her ears before? But now she has none! |
She looks like a bigger yorkie to me. She might have some silky in her blood tho. Don't worry she is just beautifull!!!I know that You'll love her no matter how big she will get, or what color and texture is here hair. She is your baby, and that is all that matter. I know it might be dispointing, when you are paying a lot of money to get "pure breed yorkie" and she ends up beeing bigger and diffrent looking than breed standard say, but she is now Your doggie, and I'm sure that you'll not get rid of her to replace her with more " perfect " dog. |

What the heck happened? I tried to edit my post and now it says this? What I had posted was that your baby is a cutie. Many of us here have yorkies that are not breed standard. I have a 9 lb girl and I have to work the blowdryer pretty hard to get her hair straight. Also- Welome to YT! |
Oh she is really cute!! Just looks like a Yorkie a little bigger than standard to me. Peanut has wavy hair if I do not blow dry it all the way after her bath. My daughter once dried her for me...BAD idea! I couldn't believe how wavy her hair is naturally. Toby has LARGE ears that stand up...Peanut has smaller ears that only stand up a little. |
She is a cutie pie!!! |
ive heard of that name, from what i heard its not such a good place. dont worry, my lexi is ten pounds and they told me she would be around 6. good luck in your search for another puppy |
2 Attachment(s) My Cody is 15# with big floppy ears. I love him just as if he were small. This picture is hilarious because he wouldn't look at me. He kept turning his head or he'd look at me out of the corner of his eye and then turn away  |
OMG Cody is so cute, look at his big ears like my jada lol One thing for sure is that all of our yorkies have the same eyes and face, that is how you can tell they are yorkies for sure... |

Do you love her? Has she won over your heart? Then I don't think it matters is her her hair is curly or straight, if her ears are up or down, and she's not as big as some of the yorkies on here. So don't worry about it. Just love her. |
Your Jada looks like a sweetie pie! I don't think her coat is overly curly or wavy. And I think her floppy ears are adorable. Just love her to death and enjoy her! ;) |
Jada looks like a sweetie. If she is AKC and you feel something is wrong you can go to the AKC site & file a complaint so they can investigate. There is plenty of info on here to help determine how big a yorkie will be at adult weight & when the ears should be up, etc. There are yorkies of all shapes, size & colors on here. So you will fit in fine. Even though I think we all agree that if someone is breeding they should be at the least making sure that the dog in within standards, but thats not always what people are concerned with$. We all cant afford show quality & even though we may love our yorkie like a child the responsible thing to do would be at least to contact the breeders & let them know that a pup from that litter has alot of characteristics not consistant to the breed, if they seem unconcerned find the business on yahoo local & leave a comment on it & if the dog is AKC I would report to them also maybe even the BBB since they have a store front. But anyways your yorkie is a cutie, Welcome to YT:) |

Your girl seems to be a larger yorkie. She could have some other mix in her but she looks pure yorkie to me :) |
I live in Brooklyn and havent heard one good thing about puppy boutique or honestly any other store here that sells puppies. I bought mine before i found this site and would never get one from a store again. Try to find a breeder so you could see the parents and know they came from a clean home. My baby had many problems when i got her and it cost me an obscene amount of money to get her healthy but i couldnt bare to return her. There are many breeders in this area and I will be searching on YT when i am getting a puppy later this year. Good Luck |

My vet told me the same thing about my first yorkie. But I tried the lotrimin and his hair grew back! |
lotrimin, isnt that over the counter medicine for people? I dont want to buy the wrong thing..lol Its not like her hair was falling out, i took her to get groomed and they shaved her down and her hair never grew back on her ears. |
She is a doll! I never have my babies ears tipped which I hear will make them stand but I think they are adorable with floppy ears. A yorkie could never be ugly!! |

I doubt she's a mix...just a poorly bred yorkie. That said....she is a CUTE and sweet looking girl! Welcome, and you are not by far the only one here who made a mistake buying from the wrong place the first time. I'm glad you LOVE your current baby, but have learned that lesson! |
