Wow, poor little guy. I hope he has a speedy recovery, and glad he's home safe and sound! |
Poor little Cubby, this just breaks my heart to hear. I will pray for this little one that he recovers quickly and does not loose his eye. How terrible that this had to happen, so very sad for you all. |
[I] am so sorry to hear Cubby is not out of the woods yet; but he sure is lucky to be back home with his family that loves him. Animals adjust so easily to the loss of an eye, or a limb; but the loss of the ones he loves would have been too much for the little guy. You said he lost weight, how much does he weigh now? You are in my prayers, both the thank you God side, and the please be with them side.:2puppy: :2puppy: :2puppy: |
I asked Nancy if I could post a photo of Cubbie and she said I could go get one off her bulletin board. I will post it later this afternoon. She said the eye looks a little better today. (She thinks.) |
:hands: Prayers are on your way Cubbie |
Here's Cubbie 1 Attachment(s) Here is a photo of Cubbie and his young mistress. Isn't he a cutie? |
What a cutie! Love the floppy ears.:D Is this the girl that was so devistated when he was gone? Bless her heart; I'm so happy they're back together.:) |
So does this mean he is better??? |
Cubbie's eye looks a tiny bit less red every day and he continues to focus and be able to see out it. He also has eye drops of some kind. The picture I posted is a few months old long, before Cubbie got lost. The girl in the photo is, indeed, the one that was so sick about him being gone. Cubbie's usual (chunky) weight is around 18 pounds, and he lost 5 pounds so that puts him at about 13 pounds. Like I said, he was chunky enough to go a few days without food. It is the dehydration that beat him down. Plus I think the car injury was very fresh when he was found. I think that answers all the questions. If not, I'm sorry. The coach of the baseball team has called a couple of times to check on Cubbies progress. Since the team wouldn't take a reward Nancy is going to throw them a pizza party and have everything delivered to their house. She is planning on attending a few games with Cubbie in tow this Summer. I know I keep saying this over and over, but I can't thank everyone enough for all of the prayers. I know that prayers kept Cubbie alive and brought him home. I have no doubt that they will also save his eye. You all rock! :ghug: |
Thank you so much for the new update on Cubbie. He is just adorable with his floppy ears. What a cutie. I hope his eye heals nicely. Thank heavens he was a teapot Yorkie to begin with. Having that extra body weight certainly kept him going for a few days. I hope he is comfy and cozy back home. Prayer's coming for you Cubbie for a complete recovery. From one Teapot to another. Hugs, Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork |
Poor little love, prayers from me and Jamie for a full recovery!!! |
Your doing such a super job with all this information and now updates. You are a great friend to Chubby and his mom. I'm glad to hear there may be a chance he does't lose his eye. Bless his heart. |
Your updates are so appreciated! I'm glad the Baseball Rescuers are getting a pizza party...I still can't believe they wouldn't take anything from Cubbie's Mommy! I bet Cubbie will be a star when he goes to the games this season. They should get him a Chicago Cubs baseball jersey to wear. :) CJ |
Aww, I'm glad to hear Cubbie is improving. He's such a cutie, love the pic! Thanks for keeping us updated. |
I've followed Cubbie's saga, but never posted. I'm SO glad to hear that some angels found him and returned him home, and that he's recovering! His young owner should NOT feel guilty about that happening...it has happened to so many, and could happen to ANY of us at any time! |
I'm so sorry to hear this, and prayers are on there way. |
Thanks for the comments about my updates. I was wondering if I should continue or not now that Cubbie is home. The latest news is that the swelling is way down but his eye is still red. Of course that will probably take some time. Unfortunately Cubbie now has raging infections in his ears. He goes back to the vet today so I don't have a full report for you. Sigh. When will this little guy get over this experience. He hates to be alone now and never wanders too far away from his people. He used to go to bed when he was tired, now he sits at the bedroom door and tries to talk his mistress into going to bed too. This behavior isn't a surprise and perfectly understandable but it hurts to know that he was emotionally / psychologically effected by his experience too. It is a relief to know that he has a great loving family so he is getting all the affection and assurance he could possible want. Time will heal. |
Please keep up the updates and thank you. |
Lou, I've been following Cubby's story from the beginning and just want to say thank you for the updates and news. What a harrowing experience for Cubby and his family. I'm so glad he is home and so sorry he was hurt. I tell you, though. It sounds like he has a wonderful family that truly love and care for him. He's so fortunate to have his family and they are truly blessed with a brave, sweet baby. Please do keep us posted. |
poor little thing. i am so very sorry. i am glad you are home and i hope your recovery is fast good luck to you get well soon |
Thank you for the newest update on Cubbie I hope the poor little guy soon realizes he is home and safe. I can't imagine how frightened he must have been. It is truly a miracle he survived. Hugs to Cubbie. Carol & Buddy |
Poor Cubbie ... but at least he's back where he belongs. Praying for a speedy recovery. |
God Bless Cubby!! He must have been singing this Destiny's Child song to himself to keep going! I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what), I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what), I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna make it (what), I will survive (what), Keep on survivin' (what), I'm a survivor (what), I'm not gonna give up (what), I'm not gon' stop (what), I'm gonna work harder (what), I'm a survivor (what), I'm gonna make it (what), I will survive (what), Keep on survivin' (what). |
We really do appreciate your updates, Lou! :) Thanks for keeping us posted. I'm sure Cubbie & his two-legged family are all going to suffer from separation anxiety for quite some time. We will keep Cubbie in our prayers & hope that his ear infections heal quickly. Please let Cubbie's family know that we are all thinking of them & send big healing hugs to all. :ghug: CJ & Muffin |
It just won't end for this poor little guy I guess. Cubbie has lost the vision in his eye. His retina detached and the eye socket is still full on old blood. He has developed a secondary cataract (?) because of the pressure and the eyeball itself is soft. The opthalmologist gave Nancy another eye drop to be given 5 minutes after the first on. Hopefully this will relieve the pressure so he won't loose the eye even if it can't see out of it. This specialist was really abrupt and didn't pull any punches. She thinks the eye is going to have to come out. She also said that false eyes don't work with dogs. They are more trouble than they are worth. Is this true? On the other hand Cubbie's ear infections are clearing up nicely and his road rash is nearly gone. His personality has perked up and is back to normal, but he is still clingy. He ventures farther away from family members in the house more and more. Outside - no change. He's right by their side. Bless you Cubbie. |
This poor little guy certainly is being handed more than he deserves. When the going gets tough the tough get going. Cubbie is one tough little yorkie. Animals like people can adjust to having only one eye. As awful as that is it's better than something that can not be corrected or treated. I guess we just have to be thankful that he is alive at all after what he has been through. Hang in there Cubbie we are all praying for your good health to return to you. Hugs, Carol & Buddy |
Awww ... poor Cubbie. We'll continue praying and sending happy thoughts! Not to be unrealistic, but keep the faith. Even specialists can be wrong. Especially about these little guys who, much like their people, usually have huge iron wills concealed inside their tiny statures. |
We're so sorry that Cubbie's eye doesn't seem to want to heal properly. Hopefully he won't lose they eye, even if he can't see out of it. At least his ear infections & road rash are cooperating! :) I'm sure little Cubbie will have some separation anxiety, especially outdoors, for quite some time. Who could blame the little fellow!? We're so happy that he is getting more spunky in the house with his family. That's what counts! We'll keep all of them in our prayers. CJ & Muffin |
[QUOTE=Lou;969964]She thinks the eye is going to have to come out. She also said that false eyes don't work with dogs. They are more trouble than they are worth. Is this true? QUOTE] Did I mention already on this thread that I had a "one-eyed" poodle? He lost his eye in an accident with a German Shepherd. His case may be a little different than Cubbie's. The GS actually nicked him on the top of his head. The puncture severed the veins/nerves (not sure how to describe it) behind his eyeball. This caused the eye to lose blood flow. Dax (my poodle) went to an orthopedic surgeon at Texas A&M (we live close to College Station) and got a "false eye". It's not the kind of false eye you may be thinking of.... DISCLAIMER - if you get queasy easily, skip this posting!...... what they did was take out the eyeball, scoop out all the "innards" of the eyeball and fill it with a prosthetic. Then they reattached the eyeball. So he didn't have a glass eye or anything - it was actually his own eyeball casing with the prosthetic in it. As he aged, the eye membrane changed colors but we never had a single problem with the eye. That happened when he was about 8 months old and he lived a long 15 years. I actually took him back to the vet hospital at A&M when he was about 10 just so they could look at it and make sure all was still okay because with the heart condition he had later in life, I didn't want to take the chance of an infection coming up. They said all was still great. After the initial adjustment time in the beginning, he did great. He always turned real fast circles when he was happy and/or excited and he continued to do that - in the direction of his blind eye! He would bump into things while circling occasionally but I think he did great over all. I'm not sure what kind of false eye your friend's vet is referring to but I thought I'd share more of our experience. Good luck and yes, God bless Cubbie! |
Thanks Angie, I'm going to share that with Nancy. I thought someone had posted about that. I know the idea of him having a missing eye is giving her a lot of heartache. I don't want to imply that they are wealthy but they will spare no expense for Cubbie. When and if the time comes, they are going to go to a different doctor. They didn't like that one at all. I don't blame them. You be nice and act concerned when you are treating our babies doc! |
