Why a Yorkie What made you decide to get a Yorkie over another small dog? Was it a present, or did you pick it out? |
Honestly, I just absolutely fell in love with the breed. I love the fact that they don't shed (with my son's allergies, this was a HUGE consideration) And considering that I am adding another Yorkie addition to our home this week, I think I made a great choice for me and my family!! |
I've always thought Yorkies were adorable with big personalities and when I found out they wouldn't kick up my allergies I just had to have one:) |
My parents had a Yorkie and he was so sweet. After my Mom died, I became the furguy's Mom. Ever since then, I've always wanted Yorkies. Sean is my 4th, including the one from my parents. :yorkiesar |
I like big dogs, but I can't stand the constant smell and drool and ick... Yorkies are small and adorable, they don't drool incessantly and I can hold her on my lap! :) That's the biggest thing of all. That and I know that she will love me unconditionally, no matter if I go out without her, or if I am unhappy or whatever. She will just come up and lick me and hug me, she always makes me smile... |
my story! I was 13 years old when my grandma and i were shopping in jc pennys...when i saw the cutiest little critter in the world..a pink bow in her hair..a cute pink dress...and there it was she said A YORKIE! I asked the lady what kind of dog was that and where did she get it from and how much....she told me and i was heartbroken cause i knew i couldnt afford that and either could my grandma...so i gave up...but the more and more i saw them i told myself i was going to get one someday...i started watching animal planet and dog shows and fell even further for the breed....i finally saved up enough money by the age 21 and thats when i got Wyatt! |
I knew a yorkie when I was a kid and he was the best dog. sweet but protective. very loyal and incredibly smart. so I have always wanted one. but as an adult, having other breeds of dogs (it was sooooo hard to find a good yorkie breeder here), they were great dogs but I still had this aching desire to have a yorkie. Hubby finally got me one :) and now I know what I have been missing all these years. It is defintely the small breed for me. I will never again go without a yorkie. my other passion is great danes. yes...I know...total opposites :) but they are wonderful dogs as well. one day, I will raise danes an you can all see the adorable pictures. :) |
We had a yorkie and a maltese when I was growing up :) I love these little guy. They are soooo sweet and full of personality. |
My first Yorkie found me. I didn't even know what one was until I found this poor, sickly little fella in the middle of the road one day. I had my little Chester for 5 and 1/2 years before I lost him. He was somewhere between 10 & 12 when I found him, so he lived a long life, the last five of which were spent being spoiled beyond imagination. I love the two little darlings I have now, but no dog will ever touch my heart the way Chester did. He was the world's most perfect dog. |
I feel in love with the breed and looked on the internet at pictures of them for 2 years and then finally My Husband said I could get one. One month after that we got our second one |
When I was a kid (about a bazillion years ago) a neighbor had a Yorkie.....her name was Winnie......I never forgot her.....I always knew there was something special about them.......about 2 years ago I was sitting in the eye doctors office and I saw a man.....and I was like OMG it was the woman that had Winnie's son.........So I identified myself to him and he actually remembered my parents (we're talking from about 30 years ago) he told me his mom had passed away.....and I told him I always remembered Winnie.......then in April & May I lost my two little dogs (two weeks apart from each other) and on Memorial Day my son came home with Brandi at 1am and I've been totally enamoured since....... |
I have honestly never seen a cuter dog than a yorkie.:aimeeyork |
a friend of ours had a yorkie... max... and he is too cute... i wanted a cat.. my mom said no because they shed and at the time i was going to guelph every weekend to see my now ex-bf and she didn't want to take care of it... so i asked my dad if a yorkie would be ok because they don't shed and it would be small enough i could bring it to guelph with me... my mom still didnt want a dog but my dad said yes (i'm currently living with them.. hence the need for permission!) it wasn't until we picked up layla that my mom fell in love with her... and we couldn't have picked a better time to get her.. she helped mend my broken heart :) |
I've had mostly the large breeds over the years, and now that I'm retired and love traveling and RVing, it's too cramped with the big guys. I decided I wanted something small so I could fly with her, something non-shedding since my husband has a bit of a problem with it, and I wanted a girl. Reason being, I raised 6 boys, never had a daughter.......now I have two hairy-legged daughters. :D I couldn't be happier, unless of course I had a couple more. I can't tell you how much we love our Yorksters. What a wonderful breed. |
I have always wanted a yorkie.........never could affor one or allowed to have one (I grew up in foster care). What I most love about the breed is that they are small........even teapots are small compared to other breeds........and their hair :) I yearn for Bobbi to have a long coat someday :D |
I had been wanting a dog for some time, but I didn't know what breed I wanted. I knew I wanted something small that didn't shed (son has allergies). Then one day, my sister and I were out at lunch at nearby mall and these people were waiting in line with the cutest dog I'd ever seen. I pointed at her and told my sister THAT'S the kind of dog I want. They said she's a yorkie, but I had never seen one clipped short. So I got online and started looking up information about the breed, and it sounded like the perfect dog for us. I waited a while, though. I was not a dog person. I hadn't owned a dog before, and I didn't want to jump into it and then decide I didn't want to keep her. Too many dogs end up in shelters that way. I knew it would be a lifetime commitment, so I wanted to make sure I was ready before I did. Now, all I can say is: I love this dog! She is the best decision I ever made... ...and so darned CUTE!!! |
My mom had two little Yorkies and I fell in love with their look and their personality. I had 3 boys and felt they needed a sturdier breed so over the years we had several different dogs. The boys are all grown now, one still at home but in high school. So, the opportunity finally came to make a home for a Yorkie. The whole family fell head over heels for our first Yorkie, Maggie. If was devastating when we lost her. My dh was insistent that we get another. I was unsure at first but the void needed filling. Our dachshund and especially our Jack Russell seemed in a depression. So, our quest began for 2 that were better bred and more likely to be 100% healthy. We went on a waiting list for a female from the next litter of one breeder. I enjoyed meeting all her dogs so much, I mentioned I might someday think of breeding too. She called a few weeks later and said, now I know you want my girl and she will be yours, but I just saw a male you have to go look at. So, off we went to see him. One step in the door and my husband handed his wallet to the lady. Ben was that cute! A perfect little boy. It was 2 more months before we got our girl Sadie. I am so happy we now have a pair -- they are inseparable! And they still have plenty of love and attention for us and our other 2 dogs. |
I miss Chuey, but Junior is the most handsome ever!! 4 Attachment(s) Hello all! I fell in love with yorkies a while back. I have wanted one for a very long time. I even named my lil laptop yorkie because I never saw myself with a real one. My husband won the dog battle with the two BIG german shepherds we have. Dont get me wrong, they are great and fun to run/jog with and walk. But finally, my yorkie dream came true. And it did not go well. Chuey passed from a hydrocephalic condition just a few weeks after we got him. We tried everything but God knew it was Chuey's time. And then, my yorkie angel Chuey sent me Junior via Aubrey! I am very partial to him and believe he is the most hansome yorkie, EVER! He is a sweet boy and loves to bite. The little gator chomps!! But he is just stunning! Thank you again for everything Aub... Maybe Junior needs another yorkie to play with...hmmmm... |
I never thought I would like a small dog... my friends had a yorkie and I thought she was cute...but never drew my interest... BUT then they got another little yorkie puppy... and she melted my heart. My daughter has allergies and when I found out they didn't shed I was hooked. My friend always brought her dogs over to the house with her and my kids loved them. One day I begged my husband and he said we could start looking. I knew I wanted a female since the dog I fell in love with was a female. I looked everywhere in my area and became frustrated... but then I found the love of my life (fur love of my life) and she was only 3 weeks old. I had to wait another 2 months to get her. When we finally picked her up... we feel in love with another male from a different litter... we couldn't leave him and the breeder was nice enough to offer us a "discount" to buy him. We went home with Lilly and Tucker. They are the best dogs ever. I love that they can play all over my house and sleep in my bed without shedding all over everything. They are extremely loyal... and my female is my shadow. I will always have yorkies from now on! |
Because Yorkies Are The Best I Love Their Hair, Their Size, Their Personnality. They Are Adorable And This Breed Gave Me So Much Joy. My First Yorkie Arrived To My Life Before To Have Human Kids ( I Was 20 Years Old). Since Then (i'm 52 With 3 Children), There Is Always A Yorkie Sharing Our Life. Yorkies Are Not Pets, They Are Family. My Little Kissie Is My Furkid And I Forget Very Often That She Is A Dog. Shame On Me....:d |
I have always had smaller Terrier mixes my first Miss Cindy was around 16 pounds blue and white she was picked by my mom had her 16 years, then there was Goldie gold and white she was 13, we picked her cause our oldest had a fear of dogs. This time was my choice always a Terrier girl the Yorkie and Chewy is perfect. |
I had always watched several dog shows and when I saw a yorkie that was being showed, I fell in love with the breed. I fell in love with their long beautiful silky hair and quirky personalities. So I did the research and found yorkies are great little dogs with great personalities and I just had to have one. What really sealed the deal was that I use to work at a dog grooming salon and yorkies were brought in all the time so I got to see firsthand how great they were and I have been hooked ever since. |
When I moved to South Korea last year, I was walking and there in a window of a vet/petshop, I saw the cutest little doggies, 2 female Yorkies and a male. I asked the lady if they were for sale and she said yes and one of their prices was 1500.00 dollars:eek:. She was so beautiful, and small, I wanted her(the Yorkie). I then went in my search of a Yorkie, found little georgie who died 3 days later:( :(, very sad story:( , and just by chance found Tinkerbell:rolleyes:. The best Valentine's Day gift EVER given to me by my husband:p, one year ago!!!! |
At the age of 10 I either wanted a Cavalier King Charles or a Yorkshire Terrier. We had a project in school to write a little book about something and I wrote one about how I was going to get a puppy in September. I researched them and I wrote each page about how I was going to take care of it. Turns out my mom bought me a Cavalier that September. His name was Charlie. We had to put him to sleep at 8 yrs old because his back legs were dragging and he was in pain. It turns out it happens a lot to that breed I heard. Anyway by this time I was already 18 and had always wanted the yorkie I never got. I got my credit card and I bought Teddy. :D I had just came back from my first semester of college and started to commute cuz the dorming life at that college was hell. Soooo now I have Teddy and have added another to my life, London and will never have another breed again. I love Yorkies, and after learning they don't shed, which I didn't know and don't give allergies, I love them even more. Charlie my cavalier used to shed a ton and I hated having hair all over the place, now with these two I haven't seen any hair anywhere at all. |
One of my husband's customers was a vet (retired now) and he had a beautiful Yorkie named Muffin:love: I fell in love with her and just knew that as soon as we owned a house that we would get a Yorkie:) |
Yorkies Are Definitely The Best 1 Attachment(s) Who can resist this beauty?:animal36 |

The main reason we even started researching the breed is because we had heard that they don't shed and that they are good for people with allergies. Then we found out that they have the best personalities and that they are lap dogs and they don't require too much exercise. Then I spent some time with a yorkie that belongs to a friend. We were sold! |
I love all dogs big and small but I am a total sucker for small breed dogs. My favourites are Yorkie, Westie, Maltese, Peke, Poms, Italian Greyhounds, Silkies etc but I can't stand small dogs that sheds so I narrowed my search down to Yorkie, Westie and Maltese. I have a friend that owns two yorkies and my hubby and I have fallen in love with the look and playfulness of the breed. I love yorkies and each of them really do have very different personality! My friend's two yorkies are high energy, yappy and one of them is actually very nippy. He nipped my shirt on my back and hung on to it when I visited! He nipped my socks, toes everything and even after being scolded by his owner, he still does it! I am actually very scared of that little monster although I totally loved him :D If I am allowed to get another dog, I will want another breed though. My dream is to have 6 dogs comprises of Yorkie, Maltese, Westie, Italian Greyhound, a Husky for hubby, and since Husky shed, I might as well add a Peke :p This is my dream United Nations dog family :animal36 |
