Well I have bad allergies and so does my son and while we love our kitty, he sheds like crazy. I knew I'd always wanted a dog too and I've always been in love with Yorkies, ever since I found out what they were years ago. I don't even remember when I fell in love with them, but I've always warned my fiance that someday I WILL have a Yorkie haha. When I found out they didn't shed it just sealed the deal for me, mentally. Then we got Sasha on Thursday, my fiance told me she was my Valentines day, anniversary, wedding, and birthday present! No more for me till Christmas I suppose! :D Oh well, she's worth it! |
There is a celebrity from my home country that owned one. She used to take him to her TV show and used to go everywhere with him. I always thought that it was the cutest dog ever, but at that moment getting one was out of question. After I got married and starting to think about getting a dog I remembered that cute little dog and started to do some research on the breed. I found out that was the dog I wanted and finally got one! |
I always remember Joan Rivers with her little Spike. I thought he was the cutest little guy. I also have a thing for Terriers. Their attitudes are the best. When the time was right I bought Buddy. My reasons were: 1. I loved how they looked. That face drives me nuts. 2. Wanted a dog that I could carry with me. Who knew he would be 13.lbs. 3. Wanted a toy breed to dress. Who knew he would HATE clothes. 4. Wanted a toy breed because they would not like to walk and stay out in the elements. Wrong, Buddy loves it outside, snow, ice and all. Dosen't like the rain though. 5. I am glad I have him. He has a beautiful coat, is very loving and is a great campaign. Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork |
Yorkies are the most intelligent little ones I know . I really love and appreciate their personalities . |
From the first time I ever saw one I fell in love with them and always wanted one. And when I finally got one I knew they were the breed for me. |
I grew up in Seattle and My Aunt and Uncle lived long ways away in Wenatchee. Every summer we got to go visit my Aunt who had Two yorkies. I have always loved their long pretty hair and their little almost human qualities. When I married and moved to N.M. we bought an acre and my hubby ( old farm boy)told me I could have anything I wanted. Well, knowing full well the cost of a yorkie was out of the question I went to work for Vets. I was fired from two because when people would bring thier animals in to be euthanized I was supposed to help and I was also in charge of kennels. I was caught slipping little yorkies out the back door. I just could not believe they could do this. So from their we started rescues. We did that till we lost our last two, three years ago. Hubby said the house was to quiet (two greys and a yellowhead parrot thats quiet) Well little did I know he was in the process of getting me a Yorkie. He ask me one day how much I had in my Yorkie fund and I said why? He said "A friend of mine has a 6 month old yorkie that his new owners could not keep." I called her and headed right over to get my boy. My husband said arenet you going to look first and I said "NO!!!" because I was already in love (sight unseen) I walked in the door and he ran up to me and I said are you ready to go home and thats all she wrote. I have my little Max. We have been looking for a little girl(Max is ALL boy) that I can dress up. Found a lttle yorkie in the for sale that I fell in love with and she came with clothes and everything but the one thing my hubby is strict on is the Registration and she was the ACA. He says you dont put a Honda sticker on a Corvette. So I am still looking she is out there somewhere. Sorry so long hard to put things into SHORT STORIES. |
To be perfectly honest, I initially fell in love with them because of how cute they looked and how well behaved they appeared. Upon research, a big plus and requirement was that they don't shed, were super smart, and sweet and full of characters. I personally can't imagine having any other dog but a yorkie since I love this breed so much. Jennie |
I worked for a guy who's wife had a shih tzu and I thought it was the cutest dog ever! I wanted a shih tzu sooo bad! I did so much research and used to tell my mom. Well one day she called me and said she bought one! I couldn't have a dog in my apt at the time. I decided I wanted to get a different breed than her so I researched more and discovered yorkies. I thought they were cute and all, I loved that they did not shed, and other things about them. But getting one is really knowing one! Like Buddy said I love love love their little faces! Its their eyes, so expressive! Its their HUGE personalities! Its their love, when they curl up on your lap to sleep! They fit in my condo and mostly in with my lifestyle My boys think they are 90lbs all day long and then when they are tired, they know they are only 5lbs and curl right up on my lap or pillow to sleep! as for shedding... well... they definately shed! Maybe I am the one person in the world with shedding yorkies, but I get hair tumbleweeds around my house from them, all my clothing and sheets have hairballs stuck to them after I wash them. but its not an outrageous amount or anything! Oh yes, and maybe its just me, but I love their little paws! When they are on their backs getting belly rubs, their little paws are sooooo adorable! i know, Im weird, but I love their feet! haha |

I was taking my stepson to a baseball camp one morning. It just happened to be trash day and I saw what I thought was a crumpled up paper grocery bag in the street. When I got about 20 feet from it, a little head popped up and it was obvious it wasn't a trash bag. When I picked him up, I was so upset. The poor little guy had almost no hair, one of his eyes was swolen shut, his ears were bright red and drooping and the smell was horendous. We went immediately to the vet and dropped him off as I had to be at work. They were afraid to touch him as they thought he had mange. They said he was a Yorkie. Turns out, the dog belonged to my ex-husband's neighbor (yes, we lived in separate houses at the time - a long, boring story not worth repeating). My ex got pissed because I hadn't asked him for permission to do anything with the dog (yes, now we all know why he's my ex!). He ran into the owner at the gas station and told him where the dog was. THREE DAYS LATER he picked the dog up at the vet. I paid the bill. My ex knew how devastated I was and I guess maybe felt a little guilty about what he had done. I told him if he ever saw that dog running the streets again to grab him. A few weeks later, he comes walking in the door with the dog under his arm. He was so pitiful. I took him to another vet who told me to either spend a lot of money or put him to sleep. His skin, eyes, ears, and everything else was infected. The vet guessed him to be between 10 and 12 years old. It took me two years and $2500.00 to nurse that dog back to complete health and we were inseparable for five years. My friends still joke that he had no legs because I carried him everywhere. Chester was the most perfect dog that ever walked the face of the earth (I know, I'll get some argument on that one, but we're all entitled to our own opinion). I took Chester to a friend's house one night in October of '05 and left him a minute too long in the back yard and he fell in the pool and drowned. In hindsight, I realize it was probably a blessing. He was completely deaf, going blind, and had arthritis. I never would have wanted him to suffer any more, in any way, so I consider it God's way of not letting that happen. He was between 15 and 17 when I lost him and he had, at least, five wonderful, happy, totally spoiled years with me. Chester is the one in my avatar. As you can see, he had a beautiful, full coat and his ears stood perfectly. I still have a photo from the day I found him and the difference is amazing. God bless you my sweet Chester. Mommy still misses you every day. |
I had just bought my first house. I'd had a bulldog w/my ex and decided I wanted small and non-slobbering. Someone called that knew of a 3.5 pound yorkie that the owners wanted to give away. He kept getting out of their fence and running around their neighborhood. I went to see him and immed. fell in love.(as most people do) He was 3 yrs old and not neutered. I had him fixed so he would lose some of his urge to wander. That's how my Shorty came into my life. After meeting Shorty, my friends and family began to calling Yorkies "shorty dogs". And everyone wanted a "shorty dog" or just wanted to take him home. Shorty is responsible for 5 of my friends making the decision to get a yorkie! He was that special. In my circle, the breed was re-named for him! Someone would say....did you know Jeff got a shorty dog? Shorty got a brain tumor and died at age 8. I had him for 5 years - through marriage and divorce. A dogs devotion is endless, I wish I could be as good to other people as my dogs are to me. Oh yes, I love shih-poo's too!! |
Because they are so darn cute, smart and have so much personality too:D :yorkiesar |
