A terrible trip to Petsmart
 

Hi everyone! I know I shouldn't be bothered by this but I just can't help it. Today I was in petsmart with all three of my dogs. We have a bunch of Christmas gift cards for them and I was so excited to get the babies out and buy some goodies. I was carrying Princess Pia and my fiancee' had Trixie Bear and Snoot in the buggie. We split up for a sec and I was minding my own business looking for some nutrical (which they were out of) and this lady approaches me. She kept starring at me and I finally asked her if something was wrong. She then asks me what type of dog Pia was. So I told her and she says she looks nothing like a yorkie and was too big for that breed. Pia is a small yorkie. She only weighs 2 lbs., is like 7 inches long, and I think stands at not even 5 inches tall. I looked at this lady like she was nuts. Before I could get a word out she starts to tell me how her color is all wrong and her facial features looked incorrect. Trying to keep my cool I asked her if she had a yorkie and why she thought this of Pia. She then tells me that she used to own one but it was nothing but trouble. I told her Pia is a true joy and if she looks the way she should or not that I didn't care because she's my baby.

Just then my fiancee comes up to us. He hand no clue what was going on and just said hello to the lady. She then looks at Trixie and says "my God and I thought your other one was big, she's even WORSE." Trixie is just 5 lbs. and 10 inches long. I saw my fiancee's chin drop and that was it for me. I told her that she was a very ignorant person and right by the nutrical section stands books of different breeds. I walked over and grabbed a yorkie book and handed it to her. I then told her that she has absolutely no right to say such ignorant things about my dogs or anyone elses. I just walked away after that because I seriously thought I was going to smack her. It takes alot for me to get mad but she missed with my babies. So to top it off while walking away she literally yells " and that white dog is hideous." Everyone in Petsmart just stopped and looked at her. I still can't even believe that all happened. Why?? I just dont get it?? I didn't know her or anything. Just a rude person for no reason at all. Anyways, I just needed to vent about this. Thanks for listening to me ;)

I probably would've smacked her. I'm sorry she said that to you.. your babies are perfect. =)

OMG! I am so glad you put her in her place.What is a "real" yorkie suppose to weigh 5 ounces?

Ugh what a miserable woman to talk to you and about your GORGEOUS pups that way. I would have been steaming too!

I've had a few bad PetSmart experiences too... I had just bought my very first puppy (from a pet store before I knew better) and went across the street from the mall to the PetSmart to stock up on puppy supplies. I was carrying Bentley since he was a baby and not all vacinated yet and a lady came up to me and asked me what kind of dog it was. I said a yorkie poo -- I knew it wasn't a purebred.. but I mean that IS what they're called.

She proceeded to tell me that I bought a mutt and that I clearly just wanted a "little foofy dog to dress up". I told her to mind her own business and leave me alone, but I was literally almost in tears. Management actually asked her to leave because she was making such a big scene.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that and I think ALL of your pups are adorable!

Thats what I would like to know. Pia makes me a nervous wreck and i was told she'd be 4 lbs. not 2. but hey sh*t happens and I love her no matter what. To me Trixie is a smurf and so is my 15 lb peke. I just don't get this lady. I think she needs her head checked :p

OMG! You kept your cool way longer than I would have! Does she have the idea that Yorkies should be the size of rats? My God, your baby is so tiny! Regardless of that, who is she to critisize all of your babies?!?!? I would have said something like "and your hair color totally clashes with your skin tone..." But thats just me :lol tears
What nerve!!! You are right to be annoyed but you know she must be a very unhappy and ignorant person to be that way!! WE know your babies are adorable!!!

Thank you and I'm very sorry that you also had a bad experience. To me every dog has something beautiful about them. Mutt or no mutt :D And if we wanna dress them and they don't mind the clothes then why should some random stranger feel the need to say such a rude thing. My babies truly could care less to have clothes on. Trix sometimes has issues with bows but thats only because she'd rather eat them, LOL!! Anyways, thank you!!

And you know what boils me even more is that my poor little Snoot is gonna be 12 yrs. old in April and for the last few days his joints have been hurting. I've had this dog since I was 14 and I got him after my bestfriend had passed away. Sure I was boiling over my girls but to say my precious boy is hideous :mad: He's the sweetest little guy in the world and has always understood my emotions. I'm just still so mad. Thank you all for the nice comments. ;)

Wow, that was incredibly rude of her, what an awful woman!!:mad: It would have been hard to not smack her!! And I can't believe she had to say that about your white dog as you were leaving!!:eek::eek:

All 3 of your babies are sooo adorable so don't pay any mind to what she said.

I guess mine would be HUGE to her, Destiny is about 5 pounds and Scampers is about 5.5 pounds. 2 pounds is really small, she probably had a hamster for a yorkie!!

I feel the same way! If we fulfill all of our dogs needs for exercise, training, love, attention and everything else.. why should it be so bad that we dress up our dogs to have some fun and because they look absolutely adorable?

Just because Paris Hilton dresses up her dogs and never lets them be DOGS.. it's like all people that like to put clothes on their dogs are considered irresponsible.. it's such a negative stigma.

I moved back to my small hometown from Boston about a year ago to be close to my family and people look at me like I'm nuts when I'm out w/my furbabies in their tee shirts or carriers. I miss the city sometimes where dogs are so much more widely accepted everywhere, *sigh*

Well if it was me i would be replying from jail lol i would have smacked that foul mouth right off that woman!!!!!!! Well you did the right thing walking away i wish i could hold my tounge like that i would have grabbed the nearest book and beat her upside the head with it and hope it made an "impression" about yorkies lol (get it Impression) hahahahahahahahahaha

I think Petsmart has a luney stalker! Someone else had a very similar experience at Petsmart and posted here about a month ago maybe. What a whacko she must have been! I would have wondered if I was on some sort of Prank Show cause it would be harder to believe someone could be so dang rude and idiotic! Sorry this happened to you and your babies.

Im sorry that lady was so freaking grumpy. She didnt know what she was talking about your dogs are all beautiful especially your baby boy. Hes got so much character. Total cutie.

i would just ignore everything she said, she sounds a bit unstable to me!!Sounds as if she didn't like yorkies, since she had one and didn't like it!!!

Amber you are my HERO !!!!! I would not have been able to keep my mouth shut either, especially after making all those roude comments and when your fiance came up with your other dogs and she went off on them there surley would have been a "clean up " in your isle cause she would be on the floor !!!!!!!!!

The lady might have had a mental illness. I'm not kidding or making light of the situation. There's a member of my family who will say ridiculous inappropriate things to strangers at a gas station or store or anywhere and it's because she's "ill". She looks perfectly normal but I could see her saying what the lady said to you just because she'd be jealous. There is no way a sane person would find Pia ulgy or large by any means! I'm 100% sure that this lady is suffering from something so don't let it bother you.

I can tell she was totally nuts. There really are ignorant people out there with very big mouths. I'm sorry you have to go through that. I hope your next shopping experience is better.

I get a kick out of the ones that ask me every time I'm ANYWHERE without fail "Is that a teacup?" I say right back to them, NO, it's a YORKIE:p

Thanks everyone ;) I know it shouldn't have botherd me but I think I was just in shock that someone could be that rude. I certainly know neither of my girls are big but to say Snoot was hideous and look at Trixie and say she's even worse. I hope she seriously has a mental problem because I would hate to think that there are rude people like this out there. Thanks again for all the nice comments. My furbabies are feeling very beautiful now :D

I have learned to just smile and walk away from ignorant people. If they have nothing better to do with their lives than badger other people, they aren't worth my time. Still, the side of me that has a hot temper would lean toward the book upside the head of that woman. ;)

That's incredible! Your Yorkies look like nothing but the perfect example of what a Yorkie is. I just can't even imagine what she was talking about. I don't know if I could have restrained myself as much as you did. I took Tatum one time up to the nursing home to see my grandma and a lady stopped me to tell me how cute she was but then had to point out that SHE had one that was much smaller "like they are supposed to be". Tatum was all of 4 pounds at the time and is very proportioned. I just stared at her and shook my head because I couldn't even come up with a response. And as for your other dog, that was just nastiness spewing out of her. Everyone has their idea of what's "cute" to them but that doesn't give you the right to spew such crap to anyone! So sorry that happened to you.

People like that need to tear down others to feel important - don't let her rent space in your head - she isn't worth it...... and your yorkies are ADORABLE !!

Why was she there anyway...did she have a dog? I feel sorry for the poor dog she has. He probably stays chained up to the tree out back with a short chain and a muzzel...lol. She is truly disturbed, I bet she goes there 3 days a week to insult the most beautiful dogs she finds just to start her day.:mad:
