CoCo?s Hospitalization Experience Last night and today
 

Last night at around 7:45 CoCo came running to me after eating her food. I saw she was shaking like a convolutions and picked her up to look at her. She had been scratching her ear recently, after I tried to tape it up. And saw that half her ear was cut off. I started freaking out and ended up taking her to the Animal Emergency Hospital at 8:20 pm. The vet put her on IV?s and on an oxygen mask. They didn?t think she was going to make it because she was having trimmers and what looked like seizures. They asked me to go back and sit with her because they didn?t think she was going to make it. I was hysterical. Then after 2 hours of the oxygen mask and her making it they put her into an incubator with oxygen going into it. Along with the ivs, and pain medication because her heart was racing. They said she will probably not make it through the night but she is a tough puppy at age 11 1/2 weeks and made it. I go and pick her up at 8:00 today but they already told me that they would have to cut off the top part of her ear, because it is going to die and fall off if not. So the top 1/3 to 1/2 part they are going to cut off. So will all of you pray for CoCo. I just want her back and to her old self again. Thanks all.

OMG I'm so sorry. Poor coco. How did she cut her ear off??

We have no clue she was scratching it a lot and trying to rub it on things, but we dont know how she could have cut it. Its bad, and the vet would not sew it back on. So they are going to have to cut the rest of it off. I am really scared about it.

OMGOSH How did that happen? I dont think she can die from 1/2 and ear being cut off unless she lost a lot of blood or had infection in it. please keep us updated.

Thanks for all your support I am going to pick her up in 1 hour. I am just worried that her ear is going to look ugly. And what am I going to do? How am I supposed to explain that she is a real yorkie but her ear is just cut off? I am really upset. She is only 11 weeks old, and 1 lb. But thanks for all the support. I just love her, but I am worried.

Oh and the vets that have been working on her thinks she went into shock and then her heart rate went up, causing her to not get enough oxygen, causing her to have trimmers that cause seizeurs.

Poor little thing, I am saying prayers for her safe recovery.

oh poor coco... but good job mom for reacting quickly! that is what saved her life i am sure!! what a little fighter you have!!! she will still be too cute and now even more special :) sending warm thoughts!

I hope she is ok. She will still be beautiful....I can't believe you are worried about her ear looking ugly when she is having seizures and stuff. I hope and pray that she will be ok......

if i were you i would be lookin for things around the house with blood on it. maybe you can figure out what happened!;)

Poor little CoCo! I really hope she has a full recovery. You don't have to explain anything to anybody, CoCo is your baby and that's all that matters. And, personally, I don't think a yorkie (or any dog for that matter) could ever be ugly, no matter what part was missing or disfigured. A dog will love you no matter what, and that makes a dog the most beautiful animal in the world. Get better quick, CoCo, your mommy misses you.

Oh thank you all! Ya'll all are making me feel better! We just picked CoCo up and she is back to her normal self, but I am being extra cautious! She is trying to play with our lab. They did not cut off her ear yet. I called a animal surgeon specialist here in this area to see what they can do and what part of the ear they can save, and see if they can still shape it like a ear. But there is already dead tissue, and they don?t know how long it will stay on or fall off. So they said the sooner I get it cut off the better it would be. And the animal surgeon specialist does not have an appointment until Feb 13. What do you think I should do? Go to the vet and have them do it or go to the specialist and risk it falling off by that time? Thanks again for all your prayers and support! We will be getting through this hard time in our lives.

glad to hear she is doing well! if i were you i'd get the dead tissue removed before it spreads and makes things worse. later , when the specialist has an appointment maybe you can go there and get him to reshape it. but when it comes down to it... its best that she is healthy, appearance is second :) plus she is too cute no one would ever notice!

The poor baby. Im glad she is home and doing ok. You must of been so scared. Did you find out what she cut her ear on yet? maybe ot got caught on some thing . Are you sure it wasnt from your other dogs playing with her? some times bigger dogs can hurt these little ones and not mean too. I hope she is ok and you find out what must of caused it. Im sure she will still look adorable.

Thank you all for all your support, thoughts and prayers! It does mean so much to me and coco and everyone else involved. Now we made an appointment to go get her ear looked at and cut off. It's so sad. But you know health is the most important thing, then attitued and spunkyness, then last would be appearence! She is getting better, and she is so spunky and playful and fun, so her ear wont look too bad i dont think. I am just grateful that she is alive and safe. My prayers go out to you and Coco. I wanted to comment on her ear. Gwen only has half an ear on her left side. The vet said she has terrific hearing though. It does not affect anything. Gwens hair is longer around her face and off her ears so you can hardly tell. Some people don't notice it until I point it out. I tried to upload a pic of Gwen, but I can't upload pics on here. Sorry. But if you look at some of Gwen's old posts you can see what it she looks like. But don't worry your little pup will still be gorgeous.

Hope Coco will be back to her old self soon. I would not worry about her appearence, as long as she is healthy, and happy!! Your baby will still be BEAUTIFUL, and special ;)

Get better soon CoCo.Don't worry about other people.When Trixie lost an eye I worried about what she would look like.After her hair had grown back you could hardly tell and yes,she was still beautiful.Gwen is beautiful.
CoCo will still be beautiful too.

How is CoCo doing today? What an awful ordeal, but I'm so glad your baby is okay. Quick thinking saved her little life!! Please keep us updated.

Don't worry about this now..you'll need your strength and energy to take care of her. Like anything we love..it doesn't have to be perfect, just lovable and it sounds like your baby fits the bill. If people ask what happened just stick to the truth...I've found that's always the best explanation. Good Luck!

CoCo is doing much better!!!! She is playing again and back to her old puppy self. We are going Monday to get the ear looked at. Then the Dr. will decide then if we need to cut off any part of her ear and how much. But I can already tell there is some dead tissue from the tear in her ear. So I do think that he will cut off a little bit. But the main think is that she is back to normal and health. Thanks again for all your prayers, thoughts, and supports. It really helped CoCo and I both pull through this hard time of ours. Thanks to everyone.

I am so glad she is doing better! Could it have anything to do with taping it up? Sometimes if it is too tight, it could stop the circulation and cause problems.

Maybe you could check with a University Veterinary school for another opinion?
