Please Help, Emergency tonight i noticed roxie, trying to poop, but she couldnt, it was very hard, and she was straining really bad, so i lifted her tail and noticed what looked like poop stuck in her, so i tried to pull it out to help her, and she went a lil bit, and then she needed a bath, so while i was giving her a bath, i noticed a red bulge coming out, looking almost like her rectum. i called the vet right away, and he thinks its a tape worm, but im not really so sure, i looked at a picture of a dog who had one hanging out, and it wasnt near as severe, im so worried, the vet said its nothing that she needs to be taking to a emergency visit, but she has to come in and get a injection to kill it. please help, he also advised me to give her something to help settle her stomach, but shes in so much discomfort, shes walking around, and acting very weird, now shes just laying down, she has been shaking, and i dont know what to do?!?! |
I would follow the vets instructions and love your baby lots tonight. Cuddle and relax with her...if you relax maybe she will too. I she is alright and that tomorrow she will start to feel better. Let us know what happens.... :( |
If Roxie is in that much pain I would insist on taking her in immediately !!!! |
I have never seen or heard of a red tape worm. Its hard to say not seeing it but I would take her in and get it checked. She could have pushed to hard. |
You might try giving her a little bit of can Pumpkin to see if he is constaped. sorry about spelling. (may want to call vet back and ask first.) but think i would insist on them seeing him. |
shes not moving at all, and its just bulging out of her rear, its red, and looks like it has veins in it, i think its her rectum where she pushed too hard, or maybe its a kind of tapeworm, ive read some, and looked at a picutre of something that looks like it sorta http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/tapewormsegs.jpg |
I don't know much about worms, but if you do a search and type in "tape worms" about 5 or so threads will come up and there is alot of good information about various types of worms. I hope this helps. |
Do you have a 24 hour emergency pet hospital you can take her too ? I would if you can - Are you sure it isn't part of her rectum ? she could be very constipated and it's pushing against her - either way it's got to hurt....I really hope it nothing serious but for peace of mind - I would go right in and have someone look at her...good luck ! |
pup That is common for pups to do...trim the hair so the stool comes out and make sure it does...put some diaper creme on it and even the worst red butt. it will be fine in a day or so..it can look awful. If she get fleas, she will get tapeworms..watch for them..can't see them in a stool check at vets. |
our vet wont see her, he said its not typically something that needs to be taken care of after hours, and that its a tape worm, thats not ready to break off in her stool and pass, but that she needs to be taken in to be treated for it tomorrow, and to give her something sweet so she can get some energy, bc shes lifeless, and the emergency vet says if our vet says its not something thats a dire emergency that it was up to us |
worms Dog tapes worms are small and not one long worm, but many. Sounds liek her rectum is inflamed from the stool being stuck. What so you mean by lifeless..like unconscience or listless..give her some honey or nutra cal. or sugar water.. |
Ok now that picture is a new one for me. Glad I haven't seen those tapeworms before. |
I do routine poopy butt checks. It doesn't take much hair to get a closely stuck "ornament" that blocks them from being able to go next time. |
photo As a retired groomer..that is the end of the Yorkie I got to look at daily LOL..and many had tapes..eek!! Looks just like the photo... |
It sounds like you're very worried. If it was me, (and I DO have a tendency to over-react sometimes but I can't help it)I'd take your baby to the emergency vet. Even though they charge a million dollars, it'd be worth it for the peace of mind for you & the possible relief of your baby. Good luck whatever you decide. Please keep us posted. |
