What should I do??

I am posting here because this involves Yorkies!!! :(

Okay, I had to vent.............

We "know" some people that are raising different breeds of dogs. I say "know" because we really don't know them well - the guy delivers wood for us and if their car needs to be worked on, they will come to my husband (he has a shop at home for our classic cars, but will work on others on the side).

Anyway, the first meeting of this lady (when she came to bring her car) was not good. You know how you just get that vibe from some people.....well, that is how it was with her. We talked about dogs for awhile and she had just gotten in little Yorkie (to breed of course). She kept telling me how BIG Mojo was and how little her little one was....I finally said that I could not believe how she would think Mojo was big at 5lbs. And that he was tinier then her dog at that age. I can't remember now how big her dog was - Now, I am not one to care about the dogs size...you know, get upset over her dog being smaller, etc. Course, I know Mojo is not HUGE at 5lbs period.....it is just the unknowingness (if that is even a word) on her part.

Second "meeting" (if you will).....the lady owed my husband money for the car work (mentioned above)...he traded some wood and some money for the car - knowing that these people didn't have much money and that we always need wood. So, we go to their house to get some money she owes....it was the second spell of snow and ice that we had gotten here. All of the dogs - there are Poms, Yorkies, Daschounds (sp), and I am not sure what else....all outside (it was like 15 degrees) in the muddy, poopy frozen yard! The poor dogs...they looked so sad, so dirty and so cold! I about died!!! Well, she didn't answer, so we left - although, I was sooo tempted to grab all the dogs and run! ((hee, hee))
Well, she gets back w/ us and my DH goes to get some money from her - not the whole amount, just some. He came home and was just so sick and worried looking....he said that the house was horrible. It had poop and pee everywhere and the dogs were covered in it. He said that the house was nasty, and smelled horrible. Well, I get on the phone w/ a friend who use to work w/ the USDA - he as now moved on to other work. So we chatted awhile about the situation, just to see what could be done to correct this....okay, I am the type of person who never intrudes on other peoples spaces or problems, but I just couldn't stop thinking about these little dogs living in that condition.

We hadn't heard from her in awhile....She finally gets back w/ us and was saying that she has had a hard time w/ some of the litters....some have all died, a Pom had to have emergency c-section, etc. So, of course, she didn't have the money to pay....but said that her husband would bring us the 3 loads of wood that was part of the deal. He comes yesterday (in the snow and ice - our roads were horrible) w/ one load of wood. I go out there to help because DH hasn't made it home yet...and, I am a nice person that way, you know! (hee, hee) - actually, I had a plan...to talk dogs. This guy works nights, sleeps when he isn't cutting wood (which he does every day)....he has no clue about anything really.
Well, we are talking dogs and he says that his wife leaves one of the little older ones outside the other night- okay, it had gotten below 13 degrees that night. I don't know if she was mad at this little dog or what....the guy said he told her to bring it in, but she didn't. So, he leaves for work. The next morning, he gets home and she said that the little dog was stiff and dead. So...what does she do??? She tosses it over the fence - did you guys get that??? SHE TOSSED THIS POOR DOG OVER THE FENCE! She was upset telling him that it was dead....he just said, I had told you to bring him in. He goes to take a short nap before he headed out to cut wood. He said that she came in and said that the dog was alive...that it had sat up and was looking at her. She brings it in and warms it up and he said that it was getting around better, etc. I could not believe it! OMG! Can you believe this???

I did everything I could not to blow a gasket.....we kept talking dogs and I asked if they were really bringing in money or if they were just taking what money they didn't have. He said pretty much the latter......he said her money maker was the little dachshunds (sp)...so, I said that maybe she should find good homes for all the others and just stick w/ that. (I hope he talked to her about it, but I really doubt it). I asked if she sold locally and he said that sometimes she does...but she mainly goes to Oklahoma (I think Muskogee (sp)) to sell them.

So, I email my friend (he is out of town) and he said that I can contact the county animal control people and the humane society. And that, unfortunately there isn?t an agency that handles situations like this. He sure wishes that there was and he understood how I felt...and oh, the lady sounds nuts! So, I just do not know what to do. Should I just try to forget it, so I try to do something? I told my DH that maybe the rest of the money she owes, could be given to us in the form of two dogs (our pick)...I don't know if he liked that idea or not. I kind of do not what people to buy these dogs, because it will keep this going on. But I want these dogs to be in warm, loving homes.

She isn't a licensed breeder, so she doesn't get inspected, I guess. (I am not up on what breeders go through). I found out that she is drawing money from the government on something (under her maiden name), but she is married (or they say they are married, she goes by his last name) - I know this because my aunts brother lives by these people had has befriended them. So, the whole situation just gets worse....just not very good! What should I do???

Thanks for listening to my long ramblings! I have just made myself sick worrying about these dogs!

Sorry this is soo long!!!

Tiggerwit 02-01-2007 08:48 AM

I would turn her in. One of those agencies has got to do something. If her house is dirty and full of poop and pee can't you call the health department? I'd be afraid to take in some of her dogs, because I'm guess they've had no vet care and may have something you wouldn't want spread to your dogs. Aside from that, you need to send the YT Mafia over to pop knot her. She needs a good butt kicking.

lovelilly 02-01-2007 08:50 AM

Can you call the police... that sounds like extreme animal cruelty. I have watched those rescue animal shows and I have seen dogs in better condition that they came and rescued. My heart is broken. Some people are HEARTLESS!!! :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

Lexi Rae 02-01-2007 08:51 AM

omg!!!!!!!!!!! how sad.. now you got me started.....

SweetCuteness 02-01-2007 08:53 AM

OMG - I'm speechless...........................

First off, this woman must not even have an ounce of a heart in her body. She TOSSED IT OVER THE FENCE? Why would you leave any dog outside when it's that cold? What do you expect? Then you just toss it over the fence.

She does not deserve to own a dog, let alone breed them. Maybe her and David Moore from Brushy Creek Kennels are buddies and have the same breeding policies. This is just disgusting. There has to be something that can be done. Isn't there some kind of ASPCA that you can call?

rockbaker 02-01-2007 08:54 AM

the poor things!

Please report these people.... if you don't... who will....

It will make a difference in the life of these dogs.....what if one of our dogs wound up in a place like that...

roxanne in nc:mad:

Jenn218 02-01-2007 08:55 AM

That is what my DH said - "you wouldn't want those nasty dogs" - but I don't see it that way...I would take them to the vet right away, get the cleaned to find that cute loveable doggy underneath.

I take it that they get some vet care because the one female and to have an emergency c-section and her husband had said something about their piling vet bills.

If I call these agencies, what do I say to them and what happens?
What will happen to the dogs?
Would these people know who turned them in?

You tell them what's been going on and what you saw. Especially the over the fence part. That just makes my skin crawl.

I don't know what will happen to the dogs. I'm hoping they get taken away, given some treatment and adopted out somewhere.

I think you can turn them in anonymously. Just make sure you tell the authorities you don't want these people to have your name because you are afraid of retaliation or something.

CO_yorkie_momma 02-01-2007 08:59 AM

My gosh, people just amaze me. Before I got my yorkies and started reading these posts I never in my wildest nightmares would believe some of the disgusting things that these breeders do to their dogs. They are using the dogs to make money and that is the best life they can give them and that is how they repay these dogs for being loyal and loving to them. This makes me sick thinking there are so many cruel people in this world. What the heck is the world coming to?

Lexi Rae 02-01-2007 09:01 AM

please, please do something quick....

ldenise 02-01-2007 09:02 AM

I couldn't even finish reading this post. there has got to be stornger laws in they way that animals are treated. she should be required to sleep out side along with her dogs. turn her in! this is horrible.
everytime I say "I can't believe how cruel some people are" , I hear even worse tales.

  That is the same thing I wonder:confused: What is this world coming to???? After these poor little innocent angels give them loyalty and love, this is what they get??? She is just a horrible person with no heart:mad:   I would report her in a heartbeat, I think you should find a way to report her and keep yourself annonimous(I can't spell:D )

Poor little angels, I want to keep her outside in 13 degree weather and when she is stiff, throw her over the fence:mad: How heartless is that??

sassypup 02-01-2007 09:07 AM

OMG....this sounds so unreal. Well, actually, how is this different from a puppy mill in terms of living condition and treatment?

Jenn, you HAVE to turn her in. In terms of what happens to the dogs next, it can't be worst than their situation now could it???? I mean tossing a dead dog over a fence? Who does that?

AND, lil' Mojo is tiny since Zoe is 4.5lbs and peole say she's tiny and I know she's tiny.

red98vett 02-01-2007 09:08 AM

OH MY GOD !

I felt SICK reading that. PLEASE REPORT HER TO THE POLICE !! THAT IS ANIMAL CRUELTY AND IF THEY CAN FIND THAT POOOOOOOR dogs Body maybe they'll get someone to save the rest - what an EVIL EVIL WOMAN ! OMG I can't believe someone would do this !!!! GO GET HER ! PLEASE...do all you can to help those poor dogs - she needs to be stopped from being around dogs EVER

trini&coco 02-01-2007 09:09 AM

OMG-This is just sick...

Most things do not make me so angry but I would definately report her to everyone I could. I would make sure to tell them I wanted my name to be confidential or I would not even give them my name. If you call your local/closest rescues I'm sure they might know what to do.

sexiixtc 02-01-2007 09:11 AM

wow! that is a lot to deal with. First, see if she's willing to give up the dogs or maybe you can take them all in for the time being then give them up on a spay/neuter contract because I highly doubt she'd do that.. and you're right.. we don't need anymore of her kind of breeding.

Good luck. keep us updated.:animal36

Bizzymammabee 02-01-2007 09:14 AM

I would call the ASPCA and report her. Disgusting treatment of animals. I can't understand that kind of thing. At least if the go out there they can fine her for the negligence of the dogs and probably remove them. You can make your report and have them not mention your name.

They should do to these nasty breeders what they occassionally do to slum lords. Make them live in the same condition that they make the animal/tenant live in for a period of a certain amount of days, fine the hell out of them and make them make improvements or keep getting fined. There really should be better regulations.

Gingergirlsmom 02-01-2007 09:17 AM

Try the police, the humane society, the health dept, etc. Someone's got to do something.

If none of the above work, contact all the rescues in your area, they deal with this kind of mess all the time and might know what to do!

 This is a horrible story. It made me sick!!! You should definetely report these people! They should be charged for animal cruelty!!!

LauraR 02-01-2007 09:18 AM

I know you said you chatted with your friend from the USDA, but I can't help but think that there has just GOT to be a Humane Society locally.
Can you check online maybe about local animal ordinances. A lot of residential areas limit the number of dogs allowed. Or, there may be some other local ordinances she could be breaking. Running a business in a residential area? (selling puppies out of her home?) I don't know..

The other thing you mentioned, about exchanging dogs for money due is also an option. Personally, I'd approach the man tho. It sounds like he couldn't really care less what about the dogs and sees them as a liability where she sees a potential asset in them. He probably wouldn't mind picking up the first one under his feet and bringing that to you instead of a load of wood. A whole LOT easier on the back. :) Hmmm.... maybe talking to a local nokill shelter! I'd bet they would be helpful in some suggestions if not help you get those babies!

As far as wanting those "nasty" dogs, No, I don't think I'd want them either. But like you said, clean them up with a nice warm bath, brush them out or whatever. Find that sweet baby underneath. I'd keep my babies away from them until you can get them quarantined to an area they aren't in and/or checked out by the vet. Then, I'm sure you would be able to find folks that would LOVE to have a sweet, clean baby to rescue. Or..there again, a local nokill shelter maybe. Who knows, you might find one that just melts your heart to add to your family.

It's too bad you weren't on the other side of that fence when she dumped her "dead" dog over it. That would be ONE saved and rescued!

It sounds like an absolutely DEPLORABLE place to have to be. So sad!

Wish I knew something that would truly be a plan to help. Good luck

I agree- you have to be able to turn them in wtthout the person knowing who did. Otherwise fear would prevent a lot of people from reporting things like this.

Jenn218 02-01-2007 09:19 AM

The strange thing is...the dog that she thought was froze....was alive. She threw it over the fence, thinking it had frozen during the night. But later, it was alive. She brought it in and warmed it up...her husband said it was just "stoved up" - not sure what that meant, but that it had gotten better and was getting around slowly, but getting around again.

First of all....I would have never left a little one outside! I mean, we have three big dogs (BIG dogs) and they don't even sleep outside at night - okay, they don't even when it is 70 degress at night, but that is besides the point!

Second, if I thought one of our dogs had died....they would not be thrown over the fence - I mean, what the H@L!??? That is sick!

My husband said that this lady was a major nut job and that he would more then likely never deal w/ her again. He said that the guy isn't bad, but he doesn't even know if he will get wood from this guy anymore (after we hopefully get our other loads of wood).

I don't know how much she owes my husband...but I think I will talk to him again tonight to see if maybe he can talk her into trading what she owes from some dogs or something...I don't know......what a mess!

chattiesmom 02-01-2007 09:27 AM

This person sounds absolutely crazy -- literally not right in the head. Would it be possible to offer to take some of the dogs in payment for the money they owe you. Maybe you could then sell the dogs to good homes -- it would help you out and help the poor dogs out.

The cruelty of the human race never ceases to amaze me.

Sending hugs to you and the poor freezing, abused and neglected dogs :ghug:

cindy0721 02-01-2007 09:29 AM

Oh Gosh.. it amazes me how people can be so ignorant.... damn it... I swear.....I would let that lady have it.. I would be contacting all the local news stations, writing my congressman a letter and raising hell with whoever listened to get this fixed... this is what happens when America does not educate it's citizen's properly... Seriously.. some people should not reproduce... excuse me but what a bunch of idiots!~

Jenn218 02-01-2007 09:30 AM

Sorry, I posted this well, the others were being posted....
I will get off the computer in a few minutes and see what I can come up w/.

They live in the country...outside of city limits. So, I do not know what rules there are for that.

My friend recommended calling the local Humane Society too....so there is a start.

Thanks everyone...it is just heartbreaking!

BlondieGirl87 02-01-2007 09:30 AM

Oh Jenn! I am so sorry to hear this!:( :( I can imagine how frustrated you must be right now, it got me upset just reading it and I'm not even there in that situation! I would absolutely report them to someone, I would try to find someplace that would place the dogs in homes something like that.
Perhaps, if they still owe you wood, they would be willing to trade a few dogs instead, especially if they are not "working" within her breeding program. If you couldn't keep them then at least YOU could find homes for them. I'm sure there some people on YT that could help you out and at least those dogs would be safe for now. Stories like this just break my heart, I cannot imagine how those poor dogs must be feeling, I wonder if they even know a better life? You know, what its really like to be loved and cared for and what it's like to live in a warm clean home. :(
I really hope things work out for those poor dogs. I'm in Florida but please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you ok?
Keep us updated!

Dear God that poor dog. I Think DEATH would be much less painful than what that woman is inflicting on him/her....what a Sick Woman and if you can get any kind of attention with the authorities - Please do !!! This is animal cruelity - you only saw a tiny bit of it - if you heard about that - then there has got to be more.

Small breeds cannot survive in the cold :( and I just want to cry thinking about them outside like that. :( :( :( :( This is going to bother me so much thinking about them - IF I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY please write me ok ????

I don't know what I can do but I'll try to help you get those dogs taken away from her if I can - she has no business having them - she is abusing them and they'll ALL end up dead if she keeps this up. I can't believe how sick I feel reading this. People just SUCK !!! I'm just so glad the good people in the world make up for the rotten coldhearted evil people like that woman :(

cindy0721 02-01-2007 09:35 AM

Found this : Worth Reading and if we all call or email it might make a difference!

REPORT ANIMAL CRUELTYAnimal cruelty is not only wrong?it is against the law in every state in this country! Animal abuse can also be part of a pattern of other violent acts within families and society. Abuse of any kind should be reported to the appropriate authorities immediately.

WHERE DO I REPORT ANIMAL CRUELTY?
In NYC: Cruelty situations involving animals in New York City should be reported to the ASPCA?s Humane Law Enforcement department at (212) 876-7700, ext. 4450, or humanel@aspca.org.

Outside NYC: You will need to find out the name of the persons in your area who are responsible for investigating and enforcing the anti-cruelty codes in your town, county and/or state. These people typically work for your local humane organization, animal control agency, taxpayer-funded animal shelter or police precinct.

To find out what agencies are authorized to investigate and arrest instances of animal cruelty in your state (i.e, does the enforcement of animal cruelty laws fall under the authority of the police department or animal control officers?), visit our state-by-state list of state anti-cruelty investigatory-arrest powers.

If you run into trouble finding the correct agency to contact, you may wish to call or visit your local police department and ask for their help in enforcing the law. Similarly, you can ask at your local shelter or animal control agency for help. To find contact information for your local shelter, check the yellow pages or visit the ASPCA?s searchable database of nearly 5,000 community SPCAs, humane societies and animal control organizations.

TIPS FOR REPORTING ANIMAL CRUELTY
Once you have found out which law enforcement agent you should speak to, it?s important to provide him or her with a concise, written, factual statement of what you observed, giving dates and approximate times whenever possible. If at all feasible, try to photograph the abusive situation and date your pictures. It would also be helpful to get short, factual written statements from other witnesses.

When you call to report animal cruelty, always make sure to keep a careful record of exactly whom you contact, the date of the contacts and the content and outcome of your discussion. Never give away a document without making a copy for your file! Make it clear to the agent that you are very interested in pursuing the case, and that you are willing to lend whatever assistance you can.

FOLLOW UP IF NECESSARY
If you don?t receive a response from the officer assigned to your case within a reasonable length of time, don?t be afraid to present your information to his or her supervisor and, if necessary, to local government officials, such as the county commissioner, and ask them to act.

If you have witnessed the cruel act yourself, you can go to your local police commissioner and ask to swear out a warrant to summon the accused person to court. Remember that expert witnesses are sometimes necessary in animal cruelty cases. A veterinarian, for example, can sign a statement that it is his or her ?expert opinion? that a dog suffers when hit with a chain, is deprived of food, etc. Expert opinions will very often make or break a case, so if you happen to know a sympathetic veterinarian, you may wish to seek his or her assistance and tell the officer that you have expert support lined up for your case.

ANIMAL CRUELTY ON TV AND FILM
The ASPCA shares your concern about the media?s depiction of violence and cruelty towards animals for entertainment purposes. Please know, however, that many of these instances are constitutionally protected free speech?and may not even involve a real animal.

If you are offended by something you viewed, we suggest that you contact the network that aired the program or the publisher of the film in question.

You may also wish to contact the American Humane Association Movie and Television Unit online or at (818) 501-0123. This unit oversees the use of live animals in movies and television as part of an agreement with the Screen Directors Guild.

WEBSITES THAT DEPICT ANIMAL CRUELTY
The Internet delivers an astounding array of images and ideas into homes across the world. But not all of these images are particularly animal-friendly. In fact, some of what is being sold and shown online crosses into the realm of criminal activity. And in some cases, there are laws against showing and selling these images.

To report websites that display acts of cruelty to animals, please contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.

I can certainly understand Jenn's worry about them finding out is she reports them. Country life is great, but it can be a b**ch when your neighbors have got it in for you. If they are as crazy as they sound, you never know what they might do to retaliate. If you can report annonimously, I say go for it. Poor babies need a friend. Just be careful.
