| Age to dock tails? I was going to dock my pup's tail today (she's 3 days old) but then thought that maybe I should wait til the 5th day only because she is only 3.9 oz. What do you think? What weight should she be at to dock her tail? |

| As long as you little one has been gaining weight since birth..... I think it would be OK to dock the tail on the third day.... I always have it done on the third day ... regardles of weight.... as long as the pup(s) are gaining weight ....if they are not.... I assume there may be a problem with that pup. Good luck.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Normal docking is done (on average) 3-5 days after birth. Sorry, but your baby seems REALLY small to me. If it were my pup, I'd wait until the pup was at least 6 ounces (but that is MY opinion). What does your vet suggest?

| She's of normal weight. Her half sisters and brothers were all 4 1/2 - 5 lbs full grown. Im gonna give her one more day and hopefully she'll gain some more weight for me |

| Update on my puppy I got her dewclaws and tail docked last night @ 10 days old by the breeder. My breeder suggested that I wait because she's so small and she's had her babies go into shock and die. She is 8 1/2 oz now and soo cute! Her tail didn't bleed at all and she's back w/ mommy now! She still doesn't have a name if anyone knows of any..... |
