Bentley has 2 sets of teeth! Bentley has a double set of Canines,is this common? he looks so funny!!:D We have tried to take a picture of him ,no luck!! He goes to the vet on Tuesday to get neutered,so vet will take baby teeth out too.I've had 3 other Yorkies before Bentley and none of them had double fangs!LOL.Anyone else's Yorkies have this? Bentley is 6 months old:aimeeyork Michelle |
I don't know if it's common, but I don't think it's uncommon. Harry had this, and when you get him neutered they just take them out. Not a big deal. |
My yorkie poo also named Bentley had double fangs for a while. All but one upper has come out and I'm going to have it pulled at the vet :) |
a lot of small dogs have this problem since their mouths are so small. its not a problem at all and they will be easily taken out after the neuter :) |
I have had this happen before and it has been my experience that it is common in the smaller yorkies to have two sets of teeth. |
Both Misha & Piper's canines never came out. Piper's was taken out when they had her under for being spayed. Talk to your vet about this. It's a lot cheeper to have it done then. Plus their already under. Misha we had spayed before this happened, so she had to go back under to have them taken out. Which is considered another surgery & costs. The roots on them must have been an inch long. |
Chachi and Jewels both had to have 4 teeth removed when they were spayed and neutered |
Gypsy recently had 2 baby teeth removed. |
he's been losing his other teeth recently.in fact he lost 4 this week! so hubby is hoping he'll lose more by Tuesday!!lol.but the canines (fangs) are funny to look at:D |
Its so common as others have said on the littler ones to retain the baby teeth. Most fall out by 18 months. But if they dont they can cause serious gum infections. So if you are taking your baby in for neutering or spay its good they just come out and you just dont have to worry about it anymore. |
It's pretty common in the small breeds. When it does happen, food can get stuck between them and cause a problem if not cleaned daily. It will be ok. The Vet. will extract them. |
Wrigley had to have 14 teeth removed when she went in to get spayed this month! We were shocked because she had lost several teeth on her own! Our vet said it's really normal. |
14!oh my gosh ,I hope they dont charge by the tooth!!! we have only found 4 |
Wow...another furbaby named Bentley!!!!! :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: |
Cricket just had her top puppy canines pulled on Friday. It's more common than not for them to retain their puppy canines. The bottom ones are usually side by side and you can loosen and pull them yourself but the top ones are usually front and back and deep rooted. They need the attention of a vet in most cases. |

He was choking and swallowed something this morning, like he has when he lost his other teeth.but big ones are still there!!:D :aimeeyork |
Phoenix has this canine problem too Phoenix will be a year old in a couple weeks, but he still has 2 of his baby canines. He had three until I wiggled one out last week. His gums look bad around them and I was wondering how long to wait before having the vet take them out since they were ignored during the neuter. |
we'll see what happens tomorrow at the vets.if he takes them out or not.they said they would take the baby teeth out with the neuter. |
I would definitely remind your vet to addresss those baby teeth while he is under, you don't want to put him through that again if they can take them during this procedure. |
Double fangs Interesting. I discussed this with our former vet. He looked at me like I was:confused: about smaller dogs not losing their puppy teeth. He reassured me they lose all of them. I kept trying to tell him about the experience of small breed owners and he again gave me that:confused: look. Not to mention, Gigi has not lost her baby teeth. Hmmmm, maybe I should drop by and show my girl's teeth. :p |
Shayna also has double canines on the top. those are her only baby teeth left...i'm glad to hear that everyone that has had this happen had them removed during the spaying/nuetering surgery. I told my boyfriend we should have the vet take them out when shayna goes in for the surgery on friday, but he said it wasnt that big of a deal and we should wait for them to fall out naturally. She hasnt lost a tooth in a while and these guys dont look like they are budging anytime soon so i think im going to over rule him and go with the popular vote and just get them removed! |
took Bentley in this morning. they removed the 4 extra teeth.guess what ?!the dental work cost more than the neuter! $255.00 for the 4 teeth!! |
Baby teeth Piper was just neutered on the 19th (@ 7 1/2 months old/ 5lbs.), and he had 16 baby teeth pulled! He had double of everything! His teeth are really strong now, and he recovered right away, so don't worry, they will get all the extra teeth at the vet. Good luck! :D |
office just called. they said the teeth were in there good and strong!! but he will be ok.vet wants to check adult teeth in a month to make sure they are growing straight. I guess the puppy teeth were pushing on the adult ones:aimeeyork |
