9 mos. old and 10 pounds $600.00 Too much? 4 Attachment(s) Hi, Sorry, tried to cram alot in that title. To try to make it short, I've been looking for a dog for my granddaughter and daughter. I've found a 9 month old girl, AKC who is 10 pounds and her ears are only 1/2 to 3/4 up. Her owner says she's rehoming her because she plays rougher than her other dogs play and since the others are small, this girl is too big and a bit to rough. She said she paid $2000.00 for her but will take $600.00 because she wants her to have a good home. I've enclosed a couple of photos. Can some of you more experienced moms or dads give me some advice? Do you think she'll get any bigger? Any chance of her ears coming up now? Thanks so much. |
She could possibly get bigger as some puppies continue to grow past 12 months. She is very cute but is not of standard yorkie size or features so for $600 I think she is way too overpriced. :animal36 |
I think thats a lot for a 9 month old. They say that they usually stop growing around 9 months but that is not always the case. Both of mine grew after they were 9 months. Abigail especially she is 9 pds now and she grew quite a bit. Summer on the other hand has only grown a little and she is a lot smaller than Abigail she is only 3.5 pds. I hope this helps. |
I think she's stunning. I love her! Her ears do not look shaved. Maybe if you shaved her ears, it would help them stand a bit more. :D |
I think that price is to high. I paid $600 for a male who is now 10 lbs but he was a puppy when I got him |
she is so cute, i hope you get her |
she is beautiful and probably just the right size for the kids. IF you can afford the 600. then get her. Different people have different opinions but I don't think that is too much if THAT is what YOU want. A smaller one will cost a lot more and she is a very pretty girl. Sounds like she has a lot of energy, too. Good luck |
I think she is darling. You want her to be a little larger for a childs pet, and 10 pounds is still a small dog. Find out all you can about her temperment, and how house trained she is. So many teapot yorkies make great pets. As far as the price, there are differences in prices all over the country. If you think that is a fair price for your area, it probably is. A yorkie is more than just a small dog with great hair; they come in many sizes, with different hair types. the one thing that seems constant in the breed is their wonderful loving spirit, you never OWN a yorkie; you experience them. I love my yorkie; and he weighs 3 pounds, and I would love him if he weighed 30.:animal37 :animal37 :animal37 |
I have seen the larger puppies much less I agree due to the fact that she is not standard she should be much less. |
I think that price is too high. |

I think that's a little high. I pd. $800 for my puppy. Maybe you could get her to come down a hundred or so? |
This girl is in Arizona. I'm in Florida Thanks to all of you for your input. I really appreciate your comments. I don't know what to do. I don't know if this is a fair price or not. My daughter lives in Lake Havasu and this girl is 3 hours away from her in Phoenix so she'll be driving to go get her on Saturday if this goes through. I live in Florida so can only judge by photos, etc. Please continue to comment. Thanks to all. I'm forwarding all your responses to my daughter |
I was on two Yorkie rescues and fostered for years, and occassionaly I would get one of the larger ones and some with ears that don't stand erect, but it did not in any way make a difference in intelligence or outgoing personality. It's a matter of what you want your dog to look like, and if the size and ears are of no importance, then get her if you want. Ask the owner for two things. First ask for Vet. references so you can call and find out about her breeding practices and health of her dogs. Also that she has a bile acid test done on this dog and recent Vet. exam and copy and email you the results. Also that she's up to date on her shots. If all checks out ask her to lower the price. You can get wonderful little Yorkies thru rescue much cheaper, not to mention Petfinder's. Have you checked those? Don't try and get this dogs ears to stand by shaving them if you do decide to get her, she is too old now. The cartilage has already formed. If it was done before he was 4 or 5 months of age, the ears could have been shaved then taped to help them strengthen standing up. Is she spayed? If not, then there is another reason not to pay that much. |
She is an absolute DOLL!! I am not sure about pricing but I paid $600 for Bobbi at 12 weeks(currently a little over 3lbs-excellent pedigree with many champs too). |
I think her price is fine. She may not be within the standard but she's a beauty. Just make sure she is HEALTHY and that she's up to date on her shots. Is she spayed? |
The larger yorkies are great with kids. I have one and he plays all day with my daughter |

Roxie I know she is big, I don't think $600 is out of line. At least you know what you are getting...and you will save on shots etc...many Humane societies only cahrge $5 to spay..that is the way it is here in south Florida... Good Luck |
I think shes beautiful and would be a great size for a child. |
Okay, look at it this way. She is big and probably not the best quality, but you know what you are getting, you are getting her for children and I think a bigger yorkie for children is the way to go. If you decide not to get her, I would look for one that will be at least 6 to 7 lbs maybe even bigger. Children don't always know how to handle the tiny ones. Good Luck!;) |

i dont think u can put a price on her if she will be perfect for your family :D |
I have a female that is 10 to 11 pounds and she is a great size to play with my grand children. I also have a 4 pound female and I have to be more cautious with her and children. Most young yorkies are wigglers and the small ones can be out of a childs arms in a flash, and they all want to pick them up and hold them. For children I would recommend a larger one. She looks like a sweet and pretty gal and if she is up to date on her shots and healthy, the price is not bad at all. I gave $600 for my larger one as a puppy and $700 for my smaller one. When you buy a puppy it is a gamble and you never know how big they will be or how they will turn out. Atleast you have a little to go on here. They all grow at different rates, my bigger girl grew until she was well over a year. The smaller one stopped at 6 months. All are different but they are all the same in that they are smart and loving dogs. Best of luck, I hope she is the one for you family. Telea, Zoe' and Mia;) |
This is the same breeder that I got Zoie from. I've seen this dog. Honestly, they don't seem that big. And I know for a fact that she did pay $2,000 for her. She was hoping to breed her, but she just grew and grew. The breeder is great, she really cares about the kind of home the dog goes to as opposed to the Money I say, if they fall in love with her, get her   P.S., tell your daughter that she will be bombarded by lots of doggies, she has a lot of cute doggies. Especially Precious.. her little 2 lber that was suppose to be bigger, but some how stopped growing.. she is precious!!! |
$600? Not that bad I guess. I do think she's absolutely adorable. If you feel comfortable spending that much, go for it... it's your call to make. At least you won't have to deal with the potty training! ;) |

Ha! Did I tell you she's only pee pad trained!!!! Deana, yes, this is the lady you told me about! I'm just trying to do the best for my daughter and grandchildren. Deana, is this a good dog?????? |
I paid $400 for my first yorkie male, he ended up being 9 lbs and in CA yorkies are VERY expensive (1500+ for toy sized) so your price seems high. |
I like her ............ Quote:
