how awful!!!!! that poor puppy |
omg the poor thing. That vet ought to be shut down permantly. Did the vet even call to see how scruffy how was doing. Maybe she should stand outside with those pics and show his clients what happens when you bring your pets in to him. that makes me so mad. . |
Scruffy Does anyone know how this poor boy is getting along? I gasped when I saw those photos, what pain he must be enduring..... my god. Update if can!!! Jeni |
That brings tears to my eyes... I can't believe they would let a puppy be burned during surgery, especially to the extent! It's outragous! |
That is so sad! Not meaning to switch gears here but where did your friend get her yorkie/maltese mix? I'm looking for a breeder who will ship and who doesn't charge 1,000$$ for a puppy! Thanks in advance for any info ANYONE might have. :aimeeyork |
That has to be one of the most horrible stories I never could even imagine what they are both going through! Pitiful, HORRIBLE, disgusting! I hope they get to the bottom of this & someone is held responsilble!! |
Update on Scruffy I just talked to Lorna. Scruffy is doing a little better. The vet gave him a special bath to try to soften up the burns. They will do that 2-3 times a day to try to keep him more comfortable. He is on pain medication which keeps him more relaxed and quiet. The poor little sweetheart...my heart just aches over this. The vet told Lorna that he will have to have surgery at least 2 more times to remove the scabs that form. Lorna will go to the vet after work to talk about what would be best for Scruffy...to stay with the vet or to come home with her. Lorna has been in contact with the owner of the other puppy that was burned and guess what...there's a third puppy burned now, but Lorna hasn't found out the name yet. She is searching for a lawyer and will also check out all the suggestions given here. Thanks so much for all your responses and prayers. You are all such a great bunch of people! I've let Lorna know and also sent her the addy for this thread so she can see for herself, and she may even join! I will keep you updated on little Scruffy's condition! |
OMG...poor scruffy, how could this happen...I would definately want that vet put out of business. Poor baby. why do they use heaters...is it just for the air temp? She should picket outside his office to make sure no one else brings thier dogs in there...I would call Peta or something. |

I didn't understand the heater thing either. I posted this earlier today... I was talking to a friend here at work who's ex is a vet. She said they lay the dog on it's back on top of a heating pad and if it gets wet, the thermostat can malfunction. But now they have water heated heating pads that just run warm water through it instead of being heated with coils - or something like that. I just can't even imagine what I'd be doing if that had happened to my dog. Best wishes and lots of hugs to the owner of this poor baby.... |
OMG... Scruffy looks so hurt... I hope he has a full recovery :getwellso and this awful vet gets shut down immediately |
Don't Give Up Please tell your friend to not give up as long as their is afighting chance!!! Unless poor scruffy is in extreme pain and there is no relief in sight, please tell her don't consider putting him down. Now back to the pics, those are horrible!!! I can't imagine how much that poor dog hurts. I agree with eveyrone's advice: newpapers, local tv stations, picket line, sue sue sue!!! That vet does not need to own a business every!! If you had told me that she rescued scruffy from someone that beat/tortured him I would believe those pics but not froma vets office!!! He doesn't know what the hell he is doing. Please know your friend and scruffy will be in my prayers and I hope that vet gets whats coming to him. I really think she needs to get her story put in a local paper if at all possible to get the word out to others. Also there are many members on here that I'm sure would volunteer their time to create a simple website to warn people about this vet. |

Omg! Poor Scruffy! I started crying when I was reading about the poor pup. Oh, my heart goes out to you and the owner. Don't give up on the pup, they have more strength than most of us can understand. :( We will pray and keep you all in our thougths. And, please have that vet put out of business... |
Prayer OMG I am so sorry! I feel so bad for Scruffy! Those pictures are horrendous. Here is a prayer for Scruffy (The prayer should be said by someone for 9 consecutive days) Prayer for Our Animal Friends Heavenly Father, the bond we have with our friends of other species is a wonderful and special gift from You. We now ask You to grant our special animal companions your Fatherly care and healing power to take away any suffering they have. They trust in us as we trust in You. Give us, their human friends, new understanding of our responsibilities to these creatures of Yours. Our souls and theirs are on this earth together to share friendship, affection, and caring. Take our heartfelt prayers and bless these ill or suffering animals with healing Light and strength to overcome whatever weakness of body they have: (Scruffy) Your goodness is turned upon every living thing; Your grace flows to all Your creatures. Your Light touches each of us with the reflection of Your love. Grant long and healthy lives to our special animal companions. Bless their relationships with us, and if You see fit to take them from us, help us to understand that they are not gone from us but only drawing closer to You. Grant our prayer through the intercession of good St. Francis of Assisi, who honored You through all Your creatures. Empower him to watch over our animal friends until they are safely with You in eternity, where we someday hope to join them in honoring you forever. Amen. |
Poor Scruffy! My husband is an attorney here in Georgia and says that in GA you would have a civil case for vet malpractice. I don't know the law in ND, but check it out. This vet should be made to pay, and hopefully, put out of business. |
I absolutely cannot believe what I just saw. How horrible. Not only should that vet pay her other vet's bills, but the vet should pay for pain and suffering of the owner and the dog. What an ASS! Especially considering he was going to rip the F%*$&# scabs off! I guess anyone could make a "mistake", if you could call it that, but to then discover it and be callous enough to want to do something that you know would hurt the dog, unbelievable. Does anyone know how this lamp could burn a dog? Where is it located during surgery? GET THAT VET! I would try to find any dog/Minot forums and libel the hell out of him. all dogs should RUN from that vet as fast as they can. :eyeballpc :animal-sm |
OMG! That is so terrible! I hope he is alright. :( |
I would take these pictures up to the vets office and show everybody there what happen to this poor animal. I would also contact the news, newspaper and anything else that would catch media attention. I would also contact a lawyer. I can't believe he was going to acutally pick at the scabs. What a freaking idiot  |
I'm so sorry about Scruffy. i don't know what you should do. Keep us posted on how he is doing you will be in our thoughts and prayers. |
I read this too quickly and I didnt get exactly what the vet did to him? How did he burn him? Jesus ! I feel so sad for this pup. What excuse did he give! I dont get it . How did he get this from going in to get neutered? I will go back and reread this story again. Genie |
This story just makes me sick!!! The arrogance of that vet! He needs to be shut down and I would definately sue. That poor poor baby!!!! |
i think that the news idea is a very good idea. i think you should go with that and sew! |
That is the saddest story. I cannot imagine the pain that little pup must have been in before being taken to the second doctor. The fact that the first doctor just ripped that scab off made me absolutely sick! I feel so sorry for that little pup and Lorna, too. |
I'm so sorry for the poor puppy. That vet should not be treating any animal ...let alone a helpless pup. I will keep you in my thoughts and wish the pup a quick recovery...I'm so sorry... |
I feel so sad and sick, I am so sorry for Lorna, and my heart breaks for her little baby. I DESPISE that vet and pray that he gets put out of business for good! I would DEFINITELY contact the local news and newspapers, they LOVE media and that would really hurt that vets business! I am so angry and sda, my heart breaks for Lorna and her precious baby! |
OMG!!!!! This is very sad. Those pictures are awfull. I will be praying for him. I would never of thought of such a thing could happen. I would also call the news not only local but I would also see if Fox news would cover this (like Gretta or ORiley). |
:( I'm so shocked. How could these vets be so freakin' careless?? I would say to bring them to a small claims court, get them to pay for vet bills. Maybe, if you can, keep all records of conversation with the stupid Vet (if they stop hanging up on people) and all e-mails if any. Poor Scruffy. He looks so sad, it just breaks my heart. And I'm angry at the same time because I can't believe how ignorant that Vet is! |
Please keep us posted on how he is doing. I have felt sick ever since I read the post and I just cant get those sad puppy eyes out of my mind. That vet should be bending over backwards to help get scruffy back to par(not that I would want him to touch him, but at elast pay for it)nad not hanging up on people. # times this has happened, sounds like a nice stroy for your local news, around here we even have one that helps people out call 6 on your side, they will actully go in do a investigastion and report on it. With this happening to 3 diffrent dogs all unrealted, that vet could easily be sued and put out of buisness. Be vocla and loud becasue you certainly do not want any other puppies going through that either!!! good luck puppy kisses to scruffy love Xander and Bridget |
This makes me sick to my stomach. I feel terribly sad for this darling dog, and the owner. Something does not jel here. Kate QUOTE=Connie]You are not going to believe this...that something so horrid This mcould happen in the hands of what is supposed to be a competent veterinarian. My daughter works with a lady who has become friends with us. She got a yorkie/maltese not long after I got Maddie. She named him Scruffy, which fits him so well. She brought Scruffy in a little over a week ago to have him neutered. One of his testicles hadn't dropped, so it was a little more complicated than the normal neutering, but all seemed to go well. About a week later, she noticed something on the skin of his back and feared he had mange. She took him back to the vet and they also thought it was mange and told her to bring her cat in. When she did, the cat was clean and then they asked her to bring Scruffy back in because they were wondering if he may have been burned from the heater they use during surgery. She brought him in and the vet shaved his back to disclose HUGE, thick scabs and then said the scabs have to come off and ripped one off. At that time, Lorna, (the owner), picked up Sruffy and said she wasn't going to allow them to rip the scabs off. She then took him to another vet who immediately knew what was wrong because she had just seen another dog who had had surgery the same day as Scruffy that was burned all up and down her back. She gave medication for Scruffy and said that eventually they would have to put him under and remove the scabs. They are 3rd degree burns...so deep! I saw scruffy last night and nearly cried when I saw him. The scabs were so huge and thick and hard and infection was pushing them upwards. Lorna took him back to the new vet this morn because the burns were getting worse and the vet had to put him under and remove the scabs. Lorna brought him home this afternoon, but the poor little thing...the burns were getting worse, so she had to bring him back there tonight and the vet is keeping him drugged and taking him home with her. She said this will be a 4-6 week recovery and that he will have to be put under 3 or 4 more times to remove scabs. That vet will be researching and consulting a University Vet place regarding Scruffy and the other dog that was burned. The vet also said that it's possible he will have bald spots once recovered...that the hair may not grow back in those areas. Lorna is beside herself with grief and has even wondered if she should get Scruffy put to sleep. The new vet told her not to even think in that area right now...that she is to think positive and hopefully there will be a good outcome. Tonight Lorna called the vet who did the surgery...his wife answered and Lorna said she needed to talk to her husband, and when she kept insisting she needed to talk to him, his wife hung up on Lorna. I can't believe it! I am so upset over what they did and now won't even talk to her on the phone. Lorna is going to get a lawyer and do what she can to get that clinic shut down. It is Minot Veterinary Clinic in Minot, ND. Anyone with any suggestions for Lorna, please post and I'll pass it on to her. I told her to find a lawyer who has a puppy of his own whom he adores! Also, please, if you would, pray for poor little Scruffy and Lorna. Funny how we all worry when we take our little ones in for surgery...the normal fears about them coming out of the anesthesia and all...never in my wildest dreams could I have come up with worrying about anything this bizzare![/QUOTE] |
Skin the Ba-----!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry but I just now signed in and have been reading this with tears in my eyes. If this had been a human baby this "doctor???' would already have his a-- in a ringer. I don't usually use profanity (thank goodness for these ----) but this really got my gander up. I agree with all of you, tell the newpapers, radio, TV, ASPCA and anyone else that will listen. If I lived closer I would picket his office. My prayers are with Scruffy, and I am sure that with such a loving owner he will end up being fine.i |
