Molly is my 12 year old dalmation. While petting her I found two huge lumps on her chest. I know it has to be cancer. My delema: I do not want my baby to be in pain and don't know if she is or not. She is at her life expectancy and I wonder if I would be prolonging her life if she underwent surgery. Or Do I let her live out her days? I don't want to come across wrong to you all, I want to do what is best for her comfort. Hope you understand where I coming from. I realize Dalmations can live longer than 12, but Molly looks old and acts old. I really don't think she could live another 3 or 4 years. She isn't ready to go yet but I need to get prepared to deal with this.

Are you sure that it is cancer? A friend of mine used to have a dalmation and had had some type of deposits under his skin - but it was not cancer. They felt like hard lumps. I don't really know much about the breed, but the one that I did know had this condition. I would make sure that you get him checked before you try to make such a difficult decision. I know it is hard, one of the hardest things in life, but you are right to prepare and think about your dog instead of yourself. I think sometimes people want their pets around until the bitter end and that is not always the "best" thing for the animal. I am not a vet and I don't know whether she has cancer, but you said she acts old. Is she arthritic, hard of hearing, can't see well? Is she living a "quality life" right now?

These are all questions I am sure you are asking yourself. If I were you I would have her examined by your vet. He/she could probably tell you how to tell if she is in any pain and what the prognosis might be. The vet can also tell you your options and answer your questions about the best way to prepare and make her last days comfortable.

12 is very old for a bigger dog and I am sure she has had the best care in your hands until now to have lived this long.

I wish I could do more to help and to ease your pain. Please know that I am thinking of you and your beautiful dalmation.

There are many DAL rescues that are happy to answer your questions about anything to do with your breed. Contact one...best wishes

Long story short..if this woman ever runs into me..and we are both here in FLorida...she is going to put a "big hurt" on me..she is mad..said she can't stand breeders like me, thinking we are above everyone.

PS..Whispersmom read my email and she said this person is insane to go off like this over a simple sentence.."please remove my pups photos asap."
