how do i clip bellas nails??
 
so i just groomed her for the first time and it worked out amazing, so now i would like to learn to clip her little nails.....i have scissors but i am sooo scared to clip them. i dont have any clue how short to do it and i would die if i hurt her....does anyone have suggestions of how i could learn etc?????

That is a good article. When they're little you can use fingernail clippers or cat/bird nail scissors. They usually act like you're killing them. Get a small container of Stop Quick or any type of styptic powder to stop bleeding if you cut it too close. When they're little the vein is close to the end of the nail. If you trim just the hooks on the end or just a little bit every week the vein will eventually work back up in the nail. Try to get her used to laying on her back while you touch her toes. Do it in the evening when she's getting tired. Then just hold the cutters or nail scissors in your hand and touch her toes with them. She should get used to having her feet touched and not pull away. My 3 all lay on their backs to have their nails trimmed. No pulling, no messing around. Maggie was 2 when she came to us and she learned really fast. I also use that time to trim up belly and bottom hairs & trim the hair around their toes. Good Luck, you can do it.

thanks soo much everyone....i am going to try.......i am just prayig i dont hurt my baby.....do u know where i can buy the stuff to make her stop bleeding in case i do????

If she does bleed a little bit I was told and have used a dab of baking soda on the nail, it worked for me! I have had to only use the soda 1x on our boxer, she was beat up pretty bad when she fell out of the back of a truck 6 years ago before we got her so she doesn't like her feet messed with (pretty bad scars) and we clipped to short one time, but like i said usually it is pretty easy to clip, and the soda worked for me!

I bought some nail clippers just today and they had the styptic powder included. Or you could buy them at petsmart :)

I use regular nail clippers on my babies...and I just nip off the tip every week or two...seems to do the trick and I havent hit the vien doing it that way..
