Multiple yorkies?? Pros and Cons I need everybodys help please. My boss made the comment that Jeter looked depressed and lonely. Sooo, I said he needs a little brother or sister to which he asked how did I think 2 would get along. That is where you all come in. He told me to get some feedback from multiple owners because once I commit there is no going back. Also, better for a male or female to go with my Jeter? Thanks for your help. |
mine are a year apart and love each other very much. they are always together. every evening they get a wild hair and play like crazy. i love to watch them together. i say get another |
Mine are 1 month apart in age. They are male and female. They get along wonderfullyand one would be lost without the other one. I would get a girl. I dont know about two males together. I would be worried about marking and dominance problems |
I love having two, they keep each other company. I would highly recommend it. I have a male and female. |

Okay, so I'll be in the minority here and say that I prefer one "inside dog" at a time but that's only MY preference. Not to say Tatum wouldn't like to have a buddy to play with (although she DOES have Stormie, our Aust. Shep. to play with outside - which she does all the time) but I personally prefer to give all my lovin' to one lapdog at a time. I don't know.... just the way I feel. I previously had a toy poodle for 15 years (he also had outside dog sisters and brothers over the years). I like to lay on the couch holding Tatum, give her all my attention (which also gets shared by my daughters and husband) and just overall lavish all doggie attention on one at a time. Stormie gets all of my husband's attention because she (and he) practically live outside in his workshop! I do wholeheartedly agree with all the comments regarding have multiples but in my own personal case, I feel better with one. So there's the minority opinion! ;) Just wanted you to hear both sides! |
Thanks for all the input. On a sidenote, is there much barking that goes on when there are 2? Jeter rarely barks except when he is tryting to get someones attention to either go out or play or when his water bowl is empty. Do 2 tend to bark at each other? Thanks again. |
When one of Mine barks usually the other one does too |
Teddy Bear is my barker. He perches on the back of the sofa and watches the street for any people or dogs walking by. Daisy doesn't usually bark except sometimes when there is a squirrel in the yard and she is chasing it. Once in awhile when they play together outside they face each other and bark and bark at each other. I don't know why they do this, I guess it is a game. |
I have two a month apart. They are the best of friends. And I absolutely recommend it. It can be expensive.. it's been hard updating them on the rabies shots, buying 2 car seats, carriers, dog treats, dog food, dog dishes (because they cant seem to eat out of each one) liscensing, spaying / nuetuering them. But I absolutely love my TED AND THERESA. Love love them!! The best part if waking up to them lying in the bed right next to me. You won't regret it! Ashley |
Like most of the others, I HIGHLY recommend more than one dog. They keep each other company, especially when you aren't home and they just seem happier. Biscuit was 1 1/2 when I got Muffin and he loves her to death. They are best buddies and now I can't imagine not having the two of them. And on January 27th there will be third one in the mix!! As far as barking, Biscuit is a barker and always has been. I'm afraid that he can get Muffin going too with the barking and lord only knows what it will like with three. But truly the rewards FAR outweigh any negatives. Best of luck with your decision. |
Two are twice the love, twice the fun, twice the work, and twice the expense. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Having two only makes me want three. Can never have enough of such a good thing! |
What about boy or girl? Pro or con with another boy who is 1 1/2 yrs old and 9 pounds. Thanks in advance. |
Mine are about 2 years apart and they are night and day! Bella I think would be best suited for a older woman who lives by herself, she is content being an only child with someone who is a homebody, she really doesnt like men or children, other pets and loves to sit in your lap and guard you. Daisy on the other hand loves to meet other dogs, loves car rides, being out and about and loves kids who give her loads of attention and she just adores my hubby (her daddy..lol). I kept Daisy to keep Bella company since I work 12 hr days 2 days a week, she had someone other than my hubby to be with, since she really doesnt like guys. I think if I had 2 Daisy's I would be in heaven, I have been trying to convince my hubby to another yorkie, the more the merrier!! |
So let me ask this question. If I get a small male, and lets say at some point he has to live with Remi, who is a 2.5 year male, not neutered, well mannered but very active little dog. Would they have problems with each other? If i get a female, I would have to spay her, or neuter Remi? I dont want them humping all over the place. And are two males generaly a problem?? |
