How long did it take to REALLY love them? I love Wesley and Maddie so much now, but I have to admit that it took me a little while with both of them... Wesley was my first dog ever and I had dreams of falling in love with him and him falling in love with me from the moment we met. But things didn't work out quite that way. When we picked him up, he fell in love with my boyfriend! :2omg: In the car, I was holding Wes in the passenger seat and he kept trying to squirm out of my arms into my boyfriend's. The ride home was 5 hours. When we stopped for food my boyfriend went inside to buy it. Wesley did nothing but look in the window and cry for him! He didn't want me to hold him either. Wesley's feelings toward me remained this way for about a week. I was heartbroken. I thought he would never love me. But slowly he came around and now he is a mama's boy. I wasn't sure about him the first couple of days we had him, but now I love him to death! When we got Maddie, she didn't really bond with my boyfriend or me. She was very independent. She wouldn't come to the door when we came home, she wasn't scared of us or anything, she just didn't seem to care about us. We we reached down to pick her up, she would run. But now, whenever I am watching TV she can't sit next to me, she has to sit on my lap. At night she cuddles up right by my neck and she's suck a little licker! I love them so much now and I love them more everyday as their little personalities come out more and more. I was just wondering what your experiences were like...did you fall in love right away or did it take a little while? P.S. Sorry for the long post. |
Reesie was the last puppy of the litter. When we walked in the door she was laying on her back and rolling back and forth because she was so full from eating she couldn't get up. That did it for me. Had to have her.Abbie is 5 months old and we got her from my best friend who breeds yorkie's. She brought Abbie up to my work and I called my husband and he said we didn't need another dog. Later that evening while I was on the internet looking a puppies my husband called my best friend and surprised me by telling her to bring over the puppy because she was sold. What a great husband! |
I fell for Grayson the instant I laid eyes on him. He is totally mommy's boy, and really dosn't have much at all to do with my husband or the kids. He squirms as quick as he can to get back to me. It's sad as my husband trys to love him but he dosn't love Grayson like I do. I can tell, but I have to say my cats are totally his. They were my girls until they met Brad and from then on they were his. So I guess it is even and i have told him lots of times all the animals can't be his!! LOL I love my furbaby to death!! I am the main care giver I feed him, bath him and take to potty. I also comb him |
I fell in love with Cooper the minute I saw him, his breeder was holding him and I could not get him out of that man's hands fast enough!!! Cooper is truly my joy and words can't express how much I love this little guy!! Carley, whom we got at 6 months old, has always been a sweetie and I truly love her and am so thankful to have her...but it wasn't that first "BAM" love like it was with Cooper, if I'm being honest. Now of course, I love them both and cannot imagine either one not being in my life...and I was never a real dog person either. My husband and I wonder sometimes what we would talk about without our little guys, we truly both are obsessed over them. He wasn't a dog person either, and didn't even want me to get a dog, but now, he is as bad as me, we are probably both sickening when it comes to our "babies"!!! |
With Cali I fell in love right away, same with my last Yorkie, Gracie. With my first that I had on my own. Zorro, he was very aloof until he got real sick at 6 months and had to stay at the vet for 2 days not knowing if he would live or not. When I picked him up from the vet he was a different dog, he never left my side and was the sweetest Momma's boy. With Maya I really wasn't ready to get another dog after losing Gracie at 6 1/2 years and she was not a Yorkie like I wanted, but my husband and dtr wanted her. So it took awhile, 5 months before I really bonded with her and she is still very independent. |
I fell in love with them the moment I saw them. Chachi was my first and he iis special because he was the first and i had waited 2 years to get a yorkie so I was just in awe with him.I also loved his personality. With Jewels she was so tiny only 12 oz and she had the cutest face. Definitely a baby doll face. I still think she is the prettiest yorkie i have ever seen. |
I totally fell in love with Chanel the day I met her ...Cheri fell in love with ME and it was all over when she peed on my shoe after scrambling over 3 other tiny bodies to be held.....:p I think I bonded deeper with Chanel....she's like my little hairy soulmate lol - but Cheri is the biggest mommies girl :) .... between the 2 I can't be happier... |
Simple, The minute I held them!!:luvu: |
Being completely and TOTALLY honest here - I fell in love with Stedman the very SECOND I saw him!!! I swear - the minute I saw him FLY out of that x-pen and attack another little Yorkie girl (lol poor little thing), I KNEW he was the little guy for me, LOL :D :p :D Then he "HOPPED" across the floor and grabbed a pencil that was laying on the floor and took it in his mouth and RAN and tried to get away from all of us :p I just KNEW he had to be MINE! :D He was (and still is!) just sooooo totally FULL of spunk and character - he was SUPER playful, yet very loving - and of course, CUTE AS A DANG BUTTON!!! :p :D |
immediately for us. She was just so small and sweet we knew we wanted to take good care of her. |
Even though I am a major dog person, I had (gasp!) never had a dog inside the house before Jazz. My sneaky husband actually bought him for our daughter, but then called and said he was bringing a yorkie puppy home for my birthday. I was furious and said there is no way I would EVER have an inside dog. I had never had a yorkie, nor had I given them much thought. I always had cocker spaniels. I told my husband not to bring the puppy home, to give him away. I thought having an inside dog was too much work. Plus, everyone I knew with an inside dog had problems leaving them when they traveled. Well, fortunately, he did not listen to me, and brought the puppy home. It was love at first sight, for me. I used to see pet owners on TV referring to themselves as dog parents, and say " How stupid. I am no dog's mother." Well, now when people ask how many kids I have, I always include Jazz. He became my dog, my little boy, my daughter's naughty little brother, my best friend. |
well i guess i am one of the few who didn't "fall in love at first sight" i mean i thought she was great... but i think i was a bit scared of how small she was... we had only had big dogs before and my parent's weren't totally sold on getting layla so i was nervous no one would like her and i would be on my own with her... we drove 9 hours to get her and the whole way there i remember thinking.. .am i making a mistake?? when we got to her house she was just so tiny i had no idea what to do with her... all the way home she slept and wnated to be on my chest... so i knew she was comfortable with me... i think my mom actually fell in love with her before i did (and my mom REALLY didn't want to get her) it only took about two days and i was head over heels in love with her... after i realized i wasn't going to break her! now i simply can't imagine my life without her and wonder if we ever get another can i love them as much?? *she is sitting on my lap giving me kisses as i write this *sigh* so in love * |
With Tucker, I was in love the second after I said "I want this one." I had SUCH a hard time choosing between him and his brother. I ended up going with him because he was just the cutest little thing. Luckily for me, his breeder kept the other guy and I get to visit him sometimes. :p and with Maddie, it was love at first sight. From the time I saw the first picture of her, I knew she was perfect. and when I saw her in person for the first time my heart melted. :) |

I think I was the same. I had never seen a dog so tiny in my life, and immediately thought I was gonna blow it. So, I brought Cali home and we kinda just looked at each other for a couple of days. After a good week or so, I knew I loved her. |
I fell in love with my little guy when I saw him. He was a little afraid of me but I can't wait to get him off the breeder's hand. I knew he wasn't going to be very small but I really didn't care. I like his temperament and that is what matters to me and hubby like his looks. I bonded with him when I held him in my arms on the way home while hubby was driving. My hubby, who never had a dog before took a longer time, about 3 months because now my baby is 6 months old and I can see the changes in my hubby. I am really proud of both my hubby and my baby.Siu Pao used to stick to me only and I had to encourage him to go to daddy more and hubby to play with him more. Things are much better now.My hubby will play with him before going to work in the morning while I am still sleeping and bring Siu Pao in to the bathroom when he showers and Siu Pao in return, is glad to follow because mommy is sleeping! |
I can honestly say that I fell in love with all of mine the minute I held them, I fell so much in love with Bear, that I was suppose to be getting another girl from a different litter but that little sweetie just caught my eye and nothing else would do...;) |
Zoe was actually a gift form my BF and a few friends. I want to say that I fell in love with him immediately but I don't think I did. It was fear at first sight because he was so tiny and fragile. I really thought that I would kill him because I didn't know how to take care of such a small creature. After I got him home and fed, he was up and playing!! I fell in love! He was just the cutest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. I have to say that the moment I knew that he was my everything was when we discovered he had luxating patella. He was limping all the time and it just looked so painful. Every part of me WISHED that it was me and not him that had to deal with the pain and surgery. That's when I knew it was REAL love. |

That reminds me so much of Teddy, he is the excat same way. He is always getting himself into trouble, always so playful and running away. Well when I first saw Teddy I thought he was just so cute and I was so happy I got him. As soon as I took him out the crate, he was shipped to me in he was so curious. I could tell he had a lot of personality and he does. I fell in love with him right away. He is a total moma's boy and my bf always comments on how he loves me more :) Everytime I come home he doesn't even let me put my things down and he's jumping all over the place. With London she was very quiet and much tinier than Teddy was. She was very sleepy and still and it took me a little to get used to her because her personality is very different to Teddys but they are like ppl, they all have diff. personalities. So now I am totally in love with her and she's so adorable and shy but can get super hyper when she wants. She's a little more independent but recently she has been wanting me to pick her up a lot and gets happy when I come home. |
I feel in love the second I saw his picture! I had just lost a pom puppy I only had for a few days to parvo (his breeder turned out to be a broker and she refused to take responsibility after he died) and I was devestated. Then I was on a website and saw Shana's store and saw her chloe. I had never thought of getting a yorkie before , but i saw chloe and knew this was the breed for me. I spent weeks on puppyfind.com and then I came across tuckers ad. His former name was stubby because of his short, little legs, haha! He was wearing a big blue bow and his little tongue was sticking out his mouth and he had little button eyes. I instantly started smiling and burst out laughing and I hadn't laughed in almost a month because of my pom pup, Nator dying. When I went to pick him up from the airport I saw his crate and saw nothing inside of it and I thought to myself "Oh no, I got scammed, there is no puppy!" and then all of a sudden I heard a squeal and he smashed his face against the front of the crate and starting jumping. I saw him and burst into tears. He was the most beautiful thing ever. |
We had never seen a Yorkie [just pictures] and the day we finally met Ava, she had three for us to choose from ... we had paid for "pick of the litter". She brought out the first one .... I turned and looked into the most beautiful face I had ever seen. She just looked at us with those little black button eyes and that little sliver of tongue sticking out and her gaze never left my eyes! It was as if she was looking into my soul and I was a goner. Patrick and I were both totally in love with this little piece of fluff and we never even looked at the other two! She is everything and more than we ever hoped for and we are totally devoted to her! She still looks deep into our eyes as if she is wondering what we are thinking. I will never forget that day as long as I live! ;) |
Oh man. I hate to even say this.... It took me a while to really bond and love him. I had wanted a Yorkie for so long and when we finally went and got him I started to feel guilty about how much money I was getting ready to spend. I started to think about what I could be buying my daughter instead.... When we bought him we had a choice of two pups.(Diesel or his brother) His brother was MUCH bigger  (yeah yeah I know)and VERY outgoing. Diesel however was a little shy and timid thing. It was so pitiful. I could tell he took after his mom. She was very shy but yet still friendly. SOOO needless to say I bought the small, shy little one! His little eyes really got to me. On the way home Diesel decided to "mark" his territory and PEED ALL OVER ME! It was so funny! Needless to say I brought him home and treated him like a baby! I can't really say when I feel in love with him because I don't remember the exact time. I do know that if something was to happen to my baby I would be totally devasted!!! Of all the dogs we have ever had my bond with him is the strongest. So can I tell you when it happened? Nope Do I love him? You bet! |
With Buckeye the second I saw him. Ahia was different. It took me a while with her. we didn't have that special bond for a while. Buckeye and I were so attached to one another. Tressie and Archie the second they were born. and ... the other 2 (Cash & Maddy). it 'bout took all I had to let them go to other homes. that is why we kept the other 2. Now......... I am as attached to Ahia as any of the others. They look at you with those eyes and it is hard to even correct them when they need it. those eyes............they are so ........HUMAN. |

But this is ONE reason though (probably the ONLY reason) why I am kind of hesitant to get another baby :( I want one, and am SURE that in the hopefully NEAR future I will have another one - but I am just so afraid that the new baby's personality will be SO DIFFERENT...and that I won't get used to it :( We just LOVE and spoil Stedman SO MUCH... and I am just so afraid that I won't be able to love another baby the same way I love him :( And I DO NOT want one or the other to feel left out. I think this SAME thing is what is bothering my husband about getting a little girl - although of course he refuses to admit it  Also, it freaks me out because everyone I know is CONSTANTLY telling me that Stedman is going to be soooooo JEALOUS and depressed if I get another baby, because he won't be the center of attention anyone. I mean we give him ALOT of attention, almost CONSTANT attention - plus I am here all day because I work in my home, so he gets DOUBLE the attention  lol. I don't even HAVE another baby yet and I ALREADY feel bad because I don't want him to feel left out or jealous, or like he is put "second" because mommy and daddy have a new baby. I just don't want him to feel hurt or jealous in any way - it makes me SO sad just THINKING about it! :cry8: |

Can I say I absolutely agree with you.. My Teddy was EXACTLY the same way you described. When I got Theresa, I experienced the same issues you did with your London! Glad to know we have had similar experiences. But I love both of my babies so much now! |
ok i have told this story a millon times lol but..... I fell in love with Peeka to the first time i seen him i had a choice between Peeka and Boo (the one my mom got) But i walked into the breeders house and was there a whole 3 min when i felt this poke in my toe Peeka just struted up and bit my big toe:eek: LOL I said oh and he looked up at me and then licked my toe(eww gross i know) but i had to have him he was ballsy like me lol. I tell it like it is and he does to lol. It was like he was saying i bit you now your mine lol. |
Good thread! It took some time for both of them. My wife brought Eddie home, and while I thought he was cute I never thought he'd become my dog, not in a million years. His feistiness grew on me. Then his smarts grew on me. Finally, his delicateness grew on me. I realized he needed special attention because of his size, and if I didn't do it no one would. By the time we got Jack, I was gaga over Eddie and got Jack as companion for him. He was cute but tiny and no athlete like Eddie. I never thought I'd fall in love with him the way I fell in love with Eddie. But I'll be darned if Jack didn't prove his feistiness too. Not only did he recover from leg surgery in record time, he wouldn't back down to Eddie when Eddie was being a bully. This winter, Jack totally won me over. While Eddie still runs when I try to put on his coat to go out in the cold, Jack is game. He shivers faster than Eddie, but he doesn't want to miss the walk. He's all canine, too. I love them both equally. |
I was in love with Tetley before I even met him - I had his picture posted next to my desk and would stare at him for hours. :) When we arrived at the breeder's I spotted him from across the room amid a dozen dogs and knew that was my baby. We bonded immediately. My husband has taken longer to get attached, but told me two nights ago that he is now officially in love with him too. :) |
I fell in love with my girls the day I saw them...I first saw Sadie when she was 5 weeks old so she was bouncing all over the place...actually...she picked me! I kept in touch with the breeder from the time her female was in heat until she had the pups...I feel like "I" gave birth to Sadie!!LOL! There were only 2 females and it was a HORRIBLE decision to make...I brought my Mom with me (she's a dog lover too!) and she was NO help at all! well, after 2 hours!! I finally decided which one I wanted...I got up to leave and Sadie (she was not the one I chose) came over to me, sat on my foot and just looked up at me...Well.....guess who I took! I new at that moment that I was in love! Lillies Mom had 3 boys and 2 girls...Again I wanted a female...2 of the boys died and 1 female...I got to see the puppies when they were a week old (same breeder) well, it was a no brainer! the smaller female did not look healthy so that left only 1 female so I didn't really have a choice...Well, when I went to pick her up to bring her home I just couldn't believe her sweet loving personality!!! Again....instant love! And that's my story of "puppy love"! |
Instantly! Maggie picked me! The family I got her from lives on a farm and the dogs were outside when I arrived. They had 2 males & 1 female...I wanted the female. When we arrived, I saw the mom, she was beautiful, the pups were sitting on the front stoop. All of a sudden, this little bundle of fur came bounding down the step and straight for me. I fell in love instantly with my little Maggie Mae! :luvu: |
I loved my little rescued one instantly . Actually , I have a little 2 years old that have been in 4 different homes before arriving here . She have to be treated like a puppy because she don't know what good treatments are . I am sure with patience , love and attention she'll become a lovely little one . |
