Anyone Add A Chihuahua To Their Yorkie Home? WE HAVE A 1 1/2 YR OLD YORKIE WE ARE NUTS ABOUT. WE ARE THINKING OF GETTING A CHIHUAHUA PUPPY? HOW DO YOU THINK THAT WILL WORK OUT. I ALWAYS THOUGHT I WOULD ONLY DO YORKIES BUT I SAW A 3LB CHIHUAHUA TODAY THAT WAS AMAZING. WHAT DO YOU THINK? THANKS MICHELLE:confused: |
I have 2 chiahuahuas..one of them gets along great and they play together all day with the yorkie and the other doesn't care for her. its not like he beats her up or anything but he pays no attention to her. |
Well we added a yorkie to our chihuahua family :) Annie (chi) took Allie in she acts like Allies mommy she keeps her in line :D Annie is not very playful at all and Allie well she is hyper as hyper gets. Chis and yorks are so different! But I personally think they go great together :) They kind of even each other out. Here anyways. GL on your decision. |
I think it depends on your baby's personality. We have a Chi/yorkie mix and things have been really stressed in the house. She and Diesel get along great. At times she is VERY rough and also very hyper and we have to seperate them so that nobody gets hurt. Our Shepherd for what ever reason just doesn't seem to like her yet. He will see her coming and he runs in the other direction. A lot of that is because she is so hyper and is always after his tail LOL. He is very good about it all. He will fuss a bit and then take off. When Diesel was a pup he use to grab Shep's lip and hold on for dear life. We had to pry him off at times! I think they will get along well. Just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't play to rough. Puupy teeth can really hurt! |
we added a chihuahua to a yorkie family and there great brothers now it really depends on the dog |
We have a tiny pom-chihuahua mix. He is such a dear, odd little fellow. He rarely barks, but makes this odd meowing- noise at times. He's curious as a cat, and has chewed up wallpaper, vinyl flooring, you-name- it. Jazz, our yorkie, is much bigger than he, but they love playing together. Jazz will drag Mo around by the ear, and when I scold Jazz and pick him up, Mo just lays there, like "Why did you interrupt our game?" Jazz is so well behaved while I am gone, but Mo, well, he destroys something new everyday! Guess he needs more exercise. No matter what his quirks, I love Mo as much as Jazz, and I am glad they have each other. |
The Yorkie and Chi are both small breeds and should do well together. I was offered a little chi for 100 last week and was plannung on getting it for my mom, but not sure if my mom is able to handle a puppy now, so now Im trying to decide if I should take it or not. |
I have Chi's and Yorkies and everyone gets alone great !!!! |
We have two chihuahuas at the moment (one actually belongs to my sister, but we've had him a few months). So far, they get along great with Lola. My female chi is definitely the dominant one of the group, but she's not at all aggressive. I just posted pictures of them together in the picture section. |
My parents have 2 chi's. They are very attached and babied by my Dad so when I bring Reesie over they are very jealous and will bite Reesie if she gets to close to my Dad. Reesie is very submissive to them so they usually just warn her to keep her distance. I would be more likely to bring a Chi into a yorkie household instead of the other way around. Good Luck:) |
thanks fcor all the feedback! thanks for all the feedback. i'm not sure if i'll do the chi or another yorkie. i love them both. still looking for the perfect fit for my rocky! michelle |
I'm glad you posted this! I've been wanting a Chihuahua so bad for quite some time now. I keep telling myself that 3 yorkies are enough, but I just can't seem to get the Chihuahua thoughts out of my mind and heart. |
i ca't decide i can't decide if i want another yorkie or a chihuahua. they're all so cute.michelle:) |
I just wanted to add that my 2 Chi's are the sweetest with VERY good temperments. Oh and FULL of kisses!!! Good luck in what you decide!!!! |
Chis are great. I have a one year old yorkie, and 6 weeks ago we added a chi girl to our family. i am so happy with her. She is more loving than my yorkie and less hyper...and my yorkie barks non stop, and chi girl doesn't bark at all). But if you like very energetic dogs, better take yorkie..:) Chis are way more calm... |

We added two Yorkies to our Chi family, and it's perfect. Course Delsi was so used to all the fosters that came and went over the years that she just thought the girls were here for her to take care of too. :p |

Chis are normally way less hyper than yorkies. i heard it form many owners and also from breeders that breed chis and yorkies for many years. All of them told me "yorkie" is a terrier...and you can see it. And chi is much more calmer. It's true that there is a very hyper chis and a very calm yorkies, but generally it's not the way. Also yorkies more friendlier than chis. Chis adores there master, but don't like strangers to much. (but again, i saw not friendly yorkies, and super friendly chis), but overall this is the situation. I think both breeds are very different. But of course that it's very important to see the puppy personality. I know for my self that i will NEVER got a dominant dog as my yorkie again. |

And he is all over place as well... He doesn't like to sit on my lap, and he always on the go and barks like crazy all day long. and my chi...she don't aggressive, but she want to be just with me, she is very loyal. She loves to be on my laps all the time, and also like her play time with the yorkie. But She almost doesn't barks, and very well behaived. |

Here she is at christmas time. Man she is a handfull. My biggest problem is the fact that she runs around all the time looking for stuff to eat. If she can't find anything she starts to chew on the carpet! The house breakingso far is going good. I jsut hope it continues. |
She is sooo cute !!! I read where you wrote you werent sure she was going to make it??? Was she ill ? She's a cutie ! |
Part of the reason I wanted a yorkie was that they were still very small and much friendlier than chi's. I would never recommend a chihuahua to someone, especially if they will be around children. I have an 8 year old chi who adores me, tolerates my kids and husband(all who came BEFORE her) but HATES with a passion...any other kids. Which means whenever they have friends over or my nieces visit she needs to be crated. At first I tried just letting her roam free in my room with the door closed but she held a grudge and peed on my bed for payback(3 strikes she's out) now it's the crate. Yes, she spent most of Christmas crated because we had family over and she hates people. She's bitten my husband before and my son. She growls if they touch her when she's not wanting to be touched. She steals the yorkie's bones just to be mean. Vindictive b*tch would be an excellent way to describe her personality. I tried when she was younger to take her to the park to get used to people but she would just growl, after awhile I realized if I wanted a pet to take with me places I'd have to get a much friendlier one. Of course, every breed has good and bad ones. You hardly hear people say "oh, a yorkie? I hate yorkies!" But believe me, there are plenty who don't find the chihuahua loveable and for good reason. |
