Well yes and no.LOL She was about 4 weeks when we got her. The mom quit nursing and the people who had the mom, dad, and pups didn't want the hassle of taking care of them. SOOO we took her home. She was really wobbly and could hardly walk. I gave her Kayro and got her some decent puppy food. Oh and I also had to give her puppy formula. Sooo needless to say it wasn't easy in the beginning. She has come a long way and you would never know she was like that. I think it was just being on a poor diet. They had her on canned pedigree for pups. Her poop was greasy and runny. That cleared up with in a day and she perked up very quickly! Like I said she is a handful now.LOL

Part of the reason I wanted a yorkie was that they were still very small and much friendlier than chi's. I would never recommend a chihuahua to someone, especially if they will be around children.
I have been looking for my chi for 6 month?and I can tell you that I saw many , many different chi breeders, and in this breed in 90% cases, you need to look at the parents.
If there are aggressive parents, you will have aggressive chi. even socialization can not help in same cases, but if the parents are friendly, most cases you will get a friendly puppy.

My chi is not aggressive at all.
She just prefer to be with me when strangers coming home, while my yorkie jump and lick they faces, and prefer to be with guest and not with us.
Personally, I prefer the way my chi behave, but everybody likes different things?

You chi has a STRONG domination problem, she think that she is the Alfa. Any dog can?t bite family members, it?s juts not normal.

I defiantly not agree that chi makes a bad family pet?
In my case the yorkie is a bad family pet?
Not loving, not loyal, not cuddly, to independent, barks non stop, pee on my bed and on my clothes since I have bring the chi and more?
But I still think that yorkie is a great breed?I just had a bad luck?

and my chi...she don't aggressive, but she want to be just with me, she is very loyal.
She loves to be on my laps all the time, and also like her play time with the yorkie.
But She almost doesn't barks, and very well behaived.

ur guys sound just like mine:D

I have an 8 year old chi who adores me, tolerates my kids and husband(all who came BEFORE her) but HATES with a passion...any other kids. Which means whenever they have friends over or my nieces visit she needs to be crated. At first I tried just letting her roam free in my room with the door closed but she held a grudge and peed on my bed for payback(3 strikes she's out) now it's the crate. Yes, she spent most of Christmas crated because we had family over and she hates people. She's bitten my husband before and my son. She growls if they touch her when she's not wanting to be touched. She steals the yorkie's bones just to be mean. Vindictive b*tch would be an excellent way to describe her personality. I tried when she was younger to take her to the park to get used to people but she would just growl, after awhile I realized if I wanted a pet to take with me places I'd have to get a much friendlier one.

Of course, every breed has good and bad ones. You hardly hear people say "oh, a yorkie? I hate yorkies!" But believe me, there are plenty who don't find the chihuahua loveable and for good reason.

my chihuahua is the the complete opp. and my yorkie is the mean one
every dog is different

This describes everything that I have heard from other Chi owners. I was really not sure about getting Keira becuase of this. So far she growls at strangers(we are nipping this in the bud really quick!),and is ALWAYS into something. My Yorkie was never like this and still isn't. Thats ok.. I think the Yorkie in her will be coming out so she should turn out nicely!;) She does love to lick you but not much for cuddling unless she is cold.

Yorkiepoo And Chihuahua

Well I Wish I Could Say Im A Pure Bred Yorkie Owner But They Are Just Not Affordable For Me So I Ended Up With A Yorkiepoo, Whos Just A Doll. I Also Have A Lg Breed Chihuahua And They Are Best Friends, Actually My Chihuahua Is Very Protective If Any Other Dog Approaches My Overly Friendly Yorkiepoo As He Feels He Might Get Hurt. If I Have To Take One Somewhere Without The Other The Dogs Both Become Very Depressed Missing Each Other And Go Absolutly Crazy When They Do Get Back Together. I Think If Their Brought Into The Family Slowly And Introduced Properly They Can Also Become Very Good Friends.

We've recently added a chi to our family and we are very, very happy with him. I agree with others that all dogs are different, sometimes even within the same breed.
Our Chi is a very laid back guy. During our last vet visit he was not nervous at all, gave everyone plenty of kisses and tail wags even after they checked to see if his testicles were dropped and took a fecal swab (where they insert a q tip in his rectum), during which he cried out. He didn't bite, he did not get scared. He does not get nervous around strangers at all. But, his mother was a total sweetheart. When we got on the floor to play with her babies, she climbed on our laps and gave us kisses. She kept an eye on the little ones, and gave them licks sometimes, but she was not aggressive in the least.

Potty training is a blast! Starting with the second day, he has been walking over to the one piddle pad we have out all by himself both for piddle and poo 90% of the time. Other times we catch him right as he is squatting and he stops what he is doing immediately. We pick him up and put him on the right spot, and he goes there. It took our Yorkie 6 long months to do the same.

You do need to look around a bit to find a Chi with good temperment, but they exist!!! And they are absolutely amazing. The only negative thing I can say about him is that he is too small and feels fragile. I am constantly worried that something will happen to him, and I really cannot wait until he is at least 3 lbs., which looks like it will take a while.

Oh, and yea Chis are not the most popular breed with the majority (although they are in the top 20 registered), and we've already gotten the comment "he looks like a mouse!" but honestly, who cares? One should never let popular opinion guide one's actions. I'd say if you find a Chi with an excellent momma, and it has a laid back personality, definitely go for it.
All the best.

I have a 15 year old Chihuahua girl and two Yorkies. Really doesn't matter what small dog you decided on to add to your Yorkie, you take the risk of calm, hyper and so on. Your decision should be based on do you want a dog that sheds. I've had Delsi for 15 years and love her dearly of course, but would never get another Chi because of the shedding. No hair in our sheets, car or on us. I would suggest sticking with the non shedding dogs, and preferably another Yorkie since they tend to play the same way with each other have so much in common.

Yes, shedding is not so nice, BUT for me there is something even more important than shedding.
chis has no smell....they can have a bath one in 6 month and have no smell, while with yorkies every 7-10 days is a must, or they became smelling very bad.
I also spoke with a guy who have many yorkies, malteses and chis, and he sad the same.
His malteses and yorkies smell, while chi have absolutely no smell.
For me its a huge thing.
(I am speaking about shor coats)

I have a short haired Chi and I can tell you I have never seen so much as a single strand on hair! She doesn't shed at all and if she does, I sure as heck have never seen any lose hair flying around LOL :D

I give her a bath every 4-6 weeks. It's not necessary because she is clean and always smells good but I do it for sanitary purposes. I use an enriching shampoo (NOT one that dries out the skin) and I only use a tiny amount. Then I follow up with a generous amount of enriching conditioner. I don't even have to dry her -- I just wrap her in a towel for a few seconds and she's dry!!

I HIGHLY recommend Chi's. I love my little girl and I think Chi's are an awesome breed! She gets along PERFECTLY with my Maltese, Codie and my Yorkie, Tia. They're best friends and ALWAYS kissing and making out LOL :p :p
