Oh and by the way if your dog is not spay/neutered and you want to get your pup fixed its best to do the micro chip then instead of putting them under TWICE :( which can be very SCARY! |
Here it costs $30 at the vet - that's it. But they don't put them under or anything - actually I've never heard of them putting them under just to microchip them. It may be uncomfortable for them in that moment, but after it's inserted, they're completely fine. |

I have never heard of putting them under anesthesia for microchipping either. The vet usually pulls up the skin behind their back and because of the way they do it, there are minimum nerves there, the pain is very minimum. |
When I got my golden retriever, Shadow, microchipped they just inserted the needle with the chip in and that was it. They did it right in the office and it last like 10 minutes.. if that. Maybe thats because shadow is a large breed, I don't know about yorkies. I would like to know since I want to get Teddy one as soon as I can. |
I paid around 70 bucks with the Jerome's vet . |
I got Venus microchipped when I had her spayed a week ago. My vet charged 30 bucks, and its another $17 you need to send off to the microchip place with your information on it. I never asked where they placed it:confused: |

They even have microchipping "clinics" per say... you just walk it, pay, have them microchipped, and walk out. It's like a flu shot clinic at the grocery store except for microchipping. It's just an in and out kind of thing - no anesthesia involved. |
You can get it done at your vet's office. Mine charges $28.00, plus you send$18.00 to the microchip company to register your pet's chip. A lot of shelter's do it to, you can call and ask. My vet says it is easier to microchip your dog when you have another procedure done. It can be painful for the smaller breed dogs because the needle is a bit large. (the chip itself is only the size of a grain of rice) Good Luck... |
My dog is microchipped with Home Again micro chipping. There are other companies as well, which might explain the difference in pricing. The size of the chip is less than a little piece of rice; so the dog of any breed is not, as far as I understand, is put to sleep for that. My dog got her microchipping performed at her vet's. However, if you google Home Again microchipping, it will likely explain the procedure as well as give you information on where you can get it done. Some pet health insurances reduce their premiums for animals microchipped with their particular brand. So, you might want to investigate, if you have an insurance, if there is a preferred vendor. As far as the dog's well being goes, I don't think there is a big difference between the companies offering microchipping services. |
I did the microchip myself. I only paid 15.00 for the product itself. It took no time to do it and Nico did very good!! |
