Yes I dont know why he sees it me with males but that is why he gave me the spray for Chachi. He didnt give it to me for Jewels

Neuter or not?
 

I got my litle male Maxwell neuter at 6 mo. He did just fine. After I brought him home he layed around for about 45 min. and that was it. He seemed to of gotten a second wind. Your litle guy will do fine also. I now have a 1 yr old female that I need to get spayed. It's scary but needed it your not breeding them. I'll be prayiong for and you guy. Take Care.:animal36

Every pet I have ever owned has been neutered or spayed. And - I have never had even the slightest problem.

I watched one of my dogs being neutered -- it really isn't much of a procedure.... and, other than a long nap when we got home - my dogs didn't even act like anything had ever been done....

Good luck - You know -- you are doing this so that they will live longer, happier, and healthier lives.

Personally - I would worry more if I didn't neuter and spay my pets..... We have all read some tragic stories by people who didn't get these procedures done.

It is normal to be nervous . Spaying or neutering is the most common surgeries done in a clinic .

I don't know the difference between a spay and neuter, but yesterday, Venus got spayed. She did great, and I brought her home the same day. I just kept her in her crate, and followed the instructions.

So far, she hasn't tried to mess with the stitches.

Adonis is next. I haven't made his appointment yet, cause the vet tech (a dear freind of my neices) will be out for a few months.

I know I will be nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs with him. I've had him 5 years, and still no neuter in fear of loosing him. He will get his too though.

Seems the worst time is after you make the appointment and waiting for the appointment day to come! I got lucky with Venus, since she hadn't ate or drank anything yesterday morning when I called, they told me to "come now". I don't think I'll get that lucky with Adonis though.

I drove everyone here nuts last month asking questions, about what anesthesia, and checking with the vet to make sure its the right kind. They did use the Isoflorane, and NO barbituates. Vet tech told me they never give barbs anymore anyway.

She's ok today, just a little lazy, but I suppose thats normal after a spay.

I know how you feel......I tossed around the idea of neutering Mojo for a long time, even cancelled appts. Finally, he had some bleeding (which turned out to be nothing - that's another story) and when I was doing research on that, I got really scared from all the problems I read about that can happen to an un-neutered male! Plus, my vet said that if they hump alot, it is time to get them neutered. Also, if you wait too long, I think my vet said from 6 years on, they have more problems or some problems may have already started to occur.
Anyway, we took Mojo in at 9:30 on morning and picked him up at 1pm that same day. The vet offered me to stay and watch, but I just didn't want to be there (in case something went wrong). I was a nervous wreck - about bawled when I dropped him off.

I have to say, he did better than I did! When we picked him up, he was so hyper and bouncing around, like nothing happened. When we got home, he was alittle groggy from the meds, but other than that, he was fine.

We didn't do the glue because our vet said it itched more and that can cause the dogs to bite or scratch at it. But we did the stitches (which didn't need to be taken out) and it is already healed up where you can't really tell anything was done! WOW!

We bought a tiny baby onesie because that is what someone on here recommended. It was alittle big on him, but he never complained about it or bothered his stitches. We put it on and had the snaps on the top of his back (so they wouldn't be rubbing against his stitches) and we cut a hole for his tail.

After all that worry, etc........I learned it was nothing to worry about and in the long run, it is better because we don't have to worry about other problems that can arise from not neutering.

Thanks everyone. My consultation is scheduled after Christmas and I guess the neutering will be in January. I think I will stay and watch during the neuter if my vet offers me to or I'd request. I want to be with my baby.

May I ask, is the bloodwork for neutering included in the neutering fee If not included, how much is it usually? Also, are things like extracting their baby teeth included in the neuter package? I just want to get some ideas.

The dogs I have had before came to neutered so I have no idea about neutering and the after care.

It all depends on your vet......my vet included bloodwork, etc. I wasn't charged for some things and charged for others.......my vet gives me discounts alot though and is a lot cheaper, being a small town vet....so it all depends on your vet. I don't even know if there is a "package deal" or not!

The teeth are charged differently, even though they do it while the dogs are "under" for neutering. It is easier for the dog and for them. Again, all vets are different and all prices are different.

I dont know about the bloodwork but if i had to quess it would be that you are charged separately. I dont think it is much. As far as the teeth it depends on the vet. Mine didnt charge but I have heard others on here say they were charged

I think we ALL face this same question and concern. I totally understand as I asked myself the same question. I ended up spaying her because I knew I would never want her to have babies and it was better for her health if I did. I was such a nervous wreck that day after surgery but I do not regret it one last bit. If you have a great doc and your little one is in good health, I wouldn't worry. (I know, easier said than done) Good luck with whatever your choice might be.

oh, one more note, we paid seperately for the blood works, I think it was like a little over $100 but it was worth every penny even though our vet said it wasn't neccessary. I didn't say at the vet to wait either, I dropped her off, went to work and coudn't even focus that day. Then picked her up when the vet called. I cannot imagine waiting at the vet for a few hours and not having anything else to take my mind off the procedure. As suggested above, onsies are awesome, the preemies. Have baby food in hand for them to lick as well but read the ingredients first. It's perfect for the 1st few days if they have their teeth pulled as well. Also, if they offer pain meds afterwards, take it!!! Our girl needed it the first 3-4 days. She cried the first day or two because of (what I believe) to be pain from the removal of her tooth. It is nerve racking...I know. I was really nervous about it until a friend of mine told me how simple of a procedure the neutering is. It is very very minor compared to a spay procedure. Tank had some baby teeth pulled at the same time and did great. My only suggestion is to try and do it on a friday so you have the weekend with him and to ask for some pain killers when you leave. I didn't ask for any with Tank and once the ones from the surgery wore off I could tell he was in some pain. I had to carry him down the stairs outside to pee and everything. But by Sunday he was back to his old self. It is worth it and just rest assured that it is a very simple procedure.

It seems once the surgery meds wear off, they're back at trouble in no time... Bloodwork wasn't included in Pepper's neuter but it was below 100, everything was a little more than 200 (in NY!), he didn't need any post medication, the vet flushed his tear ducts extra and I was actually kind of surprised it wasn't such a big deal I thought it would be...
