Senior Yorkie Talker | Finding A Groomer There have been so many incidents with groomers I have been hearing about, I decided to write in and tell people what to look for and ask of your groomer. I am a certified professional pet groomer trained in all breeds and cats. First, never leave your dog more than 4 hours. If they want the dog all day, go somewhere else. They are either cage drying all dogs or drugging the ones that are hard to handle. Groomers cage dry when they try to cram in to many dogs per day. We only take 5 or 6 in a day. 2nd, Ask the groomer how they dry the dog. We hand dry with high velocity dryers (no heating element). If we have to use a cage dryer it is only for the head where the dogs don't like the air. None of our dryers have heating elements and will only give off room temperature air. Ask the groomer if they use heated dryers. If the answer is yes, again go somewhere else. For shedding dogs, cage dryers do not work. They will not get out the hair that can be blown out with a high velocity dryer. When hand drying you see every inch of skin on the dog and will find any growth or anything that is wrong on the dog. 3rd, Ask the groomer if you can stay and watch the first time. If the answer is no, again go somewhere else. I allow anyone to stay the first time to see how their precious pet is handled. 4th, Make sure your groomer checks anal glands and ears. 5th, Don't be afraid to ask questions. Be smart when it comes to your furry family member.
