Lighter color or darker color yorkies? What's your preference? I prefer the darker in color around the face, they look like little teddy bears. :) I had a friend who lives in Georgia looking for a yorkie, so I gave her some websites. They had cute light and dark color ones. I found and she was being really picky as she should but, every yorkie with what she thought were big ears, was called a devil dog. Every light color yorkie was considered old looking to her. I love them all!:D |
Yeah Me And Her Think Alike Haha |
Haha, I laughed to when she said it. She also said if the yorkie had a long nose, she didn't want it. She said she would take it back to the breeder or sell it if the nose grew long. She thinks it's a mixed breed if the nose is long. I was on cracking up when she said it, it made me start looking at all the characteristics of the photo's of yorkies. LOL! |
Dan & I are partial to the darker Yorkies with the shorter muzzle but the lighter Yorkies are just as beautiful as well as the Biewers and the longer muzzled pals. Yorkies Rule... PERIOD! |
Ok, thanks, that's the word I was looking for, '"muzzle". The shorter muzzle and the darker face makes them look like little teddy bears. :aimeeyork And yes, yorkies do rule! |
I love both, but prefer the darker ones....hope my baby stays dark. I have a lighter one too...so you see im impartial. |
Well, I don't know what Ms Abigail is going to end up doing. Her saddle area is still quite black - turning - blue; and there's quite a bit of white on her head (as you can see) that seems to be turning more light gold since the avatar pix. I, personally, prefer the darker colors. |
I like really dark colors. I like black and tan although it is out of standard. I even like the rich gold with some black intermingled on the face. I am also a fan of the parties and biewers. Ah! guess I am equals opportunity kinda person but my preference is black and tan. If I had a show pup I would definitely go for the blue and gold instead.:animal36 |
I like the darker colors best too -- I am really hoping mine go to a dark steel blue. Still puppy coats for now. |
1 Attachment(s) I used to think that I favored the lighter colored yorkies. But after owning both the darker and lighter color yorkies, I find that I prefer the dark ones. I love all the colors and it wouldn't stop me from choosing a pup because of the color but I do favor the black and gold ones. Here is a picture of my two. I don't think you can tell from the picture but Scampers (left) is black and gold and Destiny (right) is blue and tan. Of course the black on Scampers head will go away once I cut his hair, it will be all gold, I am just waiting for it to get a little longer and then I will cut it. Is your friend looking for a yorkie puppy or an adult yorkie?? |
2 Attachment(s) hi now i got one dark and ond light yorkie too.and i have to say i love both.. :aimeeyork |
When I got my baby he was one of those very dark puppies... hubby was hoping he'd stay dark but he started growing his puppy fur out very early. Right now, at 6 months, he is mostly silver and tan around the face and paws... But I see dark grey roots in some places where the lightest hair is. So he'll change, I'm sure. And I'm very curious what he'll end up looking up exactly. Anyways, funny but my preference is whatever Pepper looks like... |
My favorite color in a Yorkie is platinum blonde. I have 6 yorkies and my rescue is a blond female. You can see her picture on the yTNR website. Look under happy endings. She is the 3rd one listed her name is Robin. http://ytnr.com Janie |
For me , darker or lighter colors have no importance at all . |
it does not matter to me, I love all the yorkie colors I have seen....when i got both dixie and peanut they were mostly dark, now they are getting lighter, I dont mind :) I think they are beautiful |
I would have to say my favorite is black with tan or gold.....but when I was looking it didn't matter. I am different than your friend because I LOVE big ears. My boy has them and he doesn't look like a "devil dog" at all  I love his silky black coat. His head is changing into all tan and I am hoping he stays that color but if not.......it'll be fun to see what he turns like. As food for thought, if your friend is being that picky.......maybe she should not be looking for pet quality pets, or perhaps, look into another breed. I don't even want to imagine if the pet doesn't turn out to be what she expected and how it be treated or her getting rid of it. (You said she did say she'd sell it or return it back to the breeder before). Anyhow, not trying to be a 'drama queen' but it did tug at my heart a little when I read your first 2 posts. Maybe I am taking things the wrong way, but I threw some suggestions out there that you could maybe forward to her ;) |

3 Attachment(s) When I first saw chewy getting lighter I was a little upset because I had never seen a light Yorkie... But now I love his colors and I think i prefer them over the darker colors...But they are all diffrent and loveable. I think my light baby is very sweet and cute...not old looking! |
I love all of them!!!!! Bengi is light on the face and dark on the back. I think each yorkie has something that makes them unique. I prefer if they are not too light though... but if the face is cute, I don't mind! |
This is what I am trying to debate right now. I have a light Yorkie right now. I am in the process of looking for another Yorkie. I cant decide if I want a light Yorkie or a dark Yorkie. Right now I am leaning for a dark Yorkie. I feel I am being very picky though. I want her to be dark, with short legs, short muzzle, has to have a gorgeous coat and weigh between 4 1/2-5lbs, straight back, perfect teeth oh I can go on and on lol. Now I just have to find her lol. |
I love dark yorkies, I think they're gorgeous! |
I hope your friend realizes that if she gets a dark colored Yorkie there is a chance the coat will change over time. I wouldn't want her to be dissapointed! Color means nothing to me, I love the face and the expressions in their eyes. That's what got me. Carol & Buddy |
Me too - each 'type' has such color variations that I can't really say though I may be partial to the darker colors - I love watching my girls outside - all the different shades just sparkle... dark and light - the faces on yorkies can melt a snowman :) |

Robin is beautiful. What a great "Happy Ending"! You are both special and were meant to be together. Jessica |
Maizee was born a light, turned black, and then turned light again. I guess I had the best of both worlds for a while. She has since then lost all of her hair to alopecia :( but she's still a cutie to me! I like either, although I think on my next baby, I would like to get a dark. |
My Trixie, I will ask her, I'm not sure, she's always sending me pictures of puppies. Your yorkies are beautiful, I am going to cut and paste and send her the picture of your yorkies. All the pictures are so cute of all these yorkies. |
I don't think they look like devil dogs, my dog's ears flop and I love that look. I also like the ears standing tall and alert, and I like a short muzzle. But I have yet to see an ugly yorkie no matter what my friend says. I'm picky and I look at it like when you're spending the money for your pet, you should try to get what you want. |
I wanted darker when I was looking but personality was number 1 on my list. So far my pup looks like he is going to have a gold face and his back is a steel dark blue. Ruffled it looks more light but brushed it is darker. I wanted like a gold/black but now that I see this blue color...I like it. suz |
I love both colors, but I prefer the lighter yorkie. I love my miko's color, especially when he's nice and clean:) |
I think they're all cute |
