Yorkies and Big dogs.... Ok all you Yorkies... how do you keep your Big Dogs out of your food????? I free feed my little ones and the Big Fat lab eats twice a day... so how the heck does this work????       |
Hee hee hee I don't know. I feed mine in the evening. If I don't stand there with Alphy he comes looking for me and Abby will eat his food. Here's one for you. How do you keep the big dog from eating the little dogs toys. I bought Alphy some toys last night on sale at Petsmart. By the time I went potty and came out Abby had fluff everywhere. :( |
LOL! That is funny -- I am having the opposite problem. I am now sold on the idea that they all need to eat dry dog food, but the dachshund and Jack Russell have not bought into it at all. So, Ben tries to sneak in and eat THEIR food. They leave his kibble alone. I have bought the all life stages food but so far the older two hold out so long we feel sorry and give in to them. I really want them on dry kibble but they are not cooperating at all. Will a dog starve itself before eating dry food? |
Rusty is a pain in the butt when it comes to food. hahaha. My big baby won't eat dry food if we buy it for him, but if we leave it out for the other 2 he'll gobble it right down. We finally just started feeding them all seperatly at the same time. |
Max eats twice a day also, but he eats outside, or the little ones including the cats wouldn't stand a chance....:p |
We have the same problem, we can't free feed. |
No free feeding in our house either. Kirby's on a grain free diet because of his ears, Ginger's on a fish-based food because of her allergies. So at feeding time the kitty's food goes up on a table (don't worry NOT the table we eat off of) Kirby gets gated in the kitchen and Ginger's food goes in the dining room. Once everyone's done eating then they all get back together. It's taken some time to get used to, we had always done the free feeding. But, now that we're in the habit it works out really well. Good luck, and keep us posted! |
If you free feed, you might want to consider putting your Yorkies dishes under something that they can navigate under or behind, but the big dog can't. |
LOL I have the opposite problem. Fatt Butt Chizziewink nabs Boo the Boxer's food. I put Boo's food bowl inside a large rubbermaid container so that the Yorkie kids can't reach it. |
That is a great idea. I finally got everyone eating the same dry food. |
we cant free feed in our house... too many of them to get each others food bowls.. they have a certain amount of time to eat, then I pick it up... it works pretty well because they know it will be gone after a certain period of time... d |
My problem is with my BIG FAT CAT. I threaten to shoot him every day. Now that the weather is cold he is in the house all the time and it is a big problem. I can''t shut him out because he uses the doggie door. |

HA Cute trick. How long did it take you to come up with that idea.? |
Kathryn, did you ever figure out a way to keep Charlie out of the yorkies' food?? I'm getting a 9 week old black lab puppy on Friday and I am just certain I am going to have this same problem! :p :p :p |

My problem is that my dogs all eat different foods. I feed them all separately in the morning, so that's when my boxer gets his big dish of food and the little ones get some soft food mixed with hard food, and my old cocker gets her special food. Then since I want the little ones to be able to free feed the rest of the day, I leave a couple dishes of dry food under the foot rest on our bar, where big 'ol boxer can't reach it. :) |
