Choking Coughing Sound Hi, I am new to Yorkie forum (just got my baby last week), he is 11 weeks old and is great, he went to get his second set of shots on Friday...which he did not enjoy :(....but then started with this hairball, coughing sound on early Sunday morning....it sounded as if he was choking on something but I knew he had been in his crate and couldn't have gotten to anything. He did it 2 more times that morning at which point I rubbed his thorat and it seemed okay. Last night he was choking all night and I was about to go to the emergency vet till it subsided, my boyfirend is now home with him and said it started again...we are going to the vet tonight...but does anyone have any input....I have read up and think it may be reverse sneezing but it is more then 3x a day?....help...I feel so sad for my baby. |
Gioia is doing this noise , my vet told me it was collapse trachea . |
Poor baby !! I don't have advise but you said he got his shots THEN started this ? Could it be an allergic reaction ? That's awfully young to have a collapsed trachea - your vet could see if thats the problem - but it sounds awful no matter what it is - I hope the vet can help you...Good luck at the Doctor !! |
She could have picked up kennel cough at the vet. Collapsed trachea usually doesn't show up until middle age I was told. Does anyone think differently? My Chai just got over it and it was a dry cough with a gag at the end. |
Maximus still choking.... Maximus ( my puppy) had gotten the shot for kennel cough at the breeders..could he still have contracted it from the vets office?, also the night of the shot he threw up but the vet said that is not that unusaual with vaccines but to make sure he eats or at least drinks water with a tsp. of sugar in it so he doesn't get a hypoglycemic episode. I am just nervous....lol...I feel like I have read every possible thing it could be and still no answers...lol, figured you guys would know better then anyone. And quick questions, I gave Maximus a bath when I first got him home and again later that week (I got scolded by the vet)...supposedly you're not supposed to bathe then this young...only use warm water on a towel or puppy wipes, this seems a little unsaniatary....anyone have any info? |
Hi , I am sending you this www.vetsurgerycentral.com/tracheal_collapse.htm My vet told me that there is no specific age for have it . It can be as a pup or an adult . |
Thank You Thank You for the information, I am getting worried now reading about the collapsed trachnea...I hope he doesn't need surgery he is so little :( .....only 2.4 lbs. I will let you know what the doctor says...thanks for the commenst and support Samantha & Maximus |
Sincerly hope the best for your little one and hope it is not that. It is always scary when they are sick . Vet knows best . |
It sounds like kennel cough. Both my yorkies had it and it does sound like they are trying to spit up a hairball. Gus did get the symptoms shortly after getting the shot for it. It could be something else but don\'t start worrying yet. |
Also, the cough always got worse at night. |
Bella got Kennel Cough after about a week with us and has been on antibiotics for 3 weeks, just ended. Some days were good and others were real bad especially at night. The vet said the kennel cough can last up to 30 days. It does sound like a hairball and is the worst at night or early morning. |
Has anyone heard anything about the vet visit here ? Hope your baby is ok - Kennel cough does take forever to completely go away - our cocker got it from the groomer - but it\'s very treatable....I\'m hoping the vet says the coughing is from something minor ... |
Maximus..... :( Okay.... we went to the vet yesterday with Maximus...turns out he has a collapsed trachea so he is on medication and had to get a penicilin shot....I have no idea how he could have gotten this because I haven\'t put a collar on him yet since he\'s too young to go out and he only plays in the living room which I have gated off from the rest of the house....i will be doing some intensive research today...lol...and hopefully everything will turn out okay. Thanks for all the suggestions you guys. |
OH SHOOT !! That\'s really a shame ! If you want to talk to someone who has a little one that also has a collapsed trachea - please pm me and I can hook you up with her - she found out about 8 months ago and has a very small little boy - I\'m so sorry !!! |
I am so sorry about Maximus . I really hoped It wasn\'t that . |
