I had just heard about this from my vet too and he compared the parvo vaccine to the flu vaccine that people get. He said there are different strains of parvo out there now so the parvo vaccine isn't a gaurantee that my pups won't get it...Kind of disturbing.... graven....I am so sorry for your loss! I hope your survivors recover completely and live long healthy lives! |
I just threw out all my shots I am so glad i just read this. I gave PepperAnn's first litter 3 sets of the spectra 7 shots in 2005. luckily they have no problem. now a year later PepperAnn is due to have her 2nd litter the end of this month Jan 25, 2007. i just read your story and i Immedietly went to the fridge and threw out the eight shots that i planned on using for this litter. I do not care if they are good or not after reading what happened to you, I will not use spectra 7. thank you. I am so sorry for your lost. |
what a horrible thing to have to go thru. I hope my vet used a good vaccine for my puppies. Better yet, I hope they still dont ever come in contact with parvo from any place. I have heard dogs can get it from another dog or any animal that has it just by other dogs walking in your yard and your dog going where it was and yu know they always smell the ground where another dog has been. I'm so glad our yard is fenced. |
This is very interesting concerning vaccination requirements. My 13 yr old is done with vaccines. I realize they are important to young puppies (well I guess they are): http://www.critteradvocacy.org/FAQ's.htm Here is an excert: "The duration of immunity for these vaccines has been scientifically proven to be over 7 years, and probably the life of the pet. More importantly, it has been proven that re-administration of these vaccines does not make the patient more immune. The immunity induced by the first vaccine blocks the next vaccine. The client is paying for something with no effect; except that the pet is being exposed the unnecessary risk of an adverse reaction." |
