Scandalizing Grandma Okay, I'm going to be naughty over Thanksgiving, but I'm really looking forward to it! I'm taking Teddy to my parents house on Thanksgiving (they just love him) and he'll meet my grandma for the first time. My grandma is a good lady, but very strict, very old-fashioned, and very religious. When I first told her I was getting a yorkie she went on to say how appalling it was the way people spoiled thier pets and treated them like children, making such a big deal about them. It was amusing, but got my goat. Anyway, I'm totally going to love Teddy up like I always do, in front of her. Kisses, snuggles, playing, babytalk ... and I'm going to get such a kick out of it! Ha ha! :aimeeyork :) |
I would treat mine as I always do...but not to be disrepectful to anyone..especially a grandparent (if I had one). I hope you rethink your motives and have a joyous Thanksgiving sharing your love with her too.:) |
lol don't forget to dress him up! |
It reminds me of something. My mother-in-law who is also very religious also said something similar. She said something about people usually treat their dogs better than their parents. I must admit during that time I thought it was a weird thing to say. I treat my dog as my kid simply because I take care of him night and day and I love him but i don't think my love for my parents have changed. My own mother actually understands how I feel and didn't mind about it all and that being she is 18 hours flight away from me. Its just plain weird. |
I say go for it. I'd do the same thing if I were you. It's your right to love your dog like a child. Lots of on the mouth kisses  should shock her sufficiently. |
Is it worth upsetting your Grandmother over. I'd treat him as usual, but not go out of my way to antagonize someone. That would be quite immature, and it might backfire on you. |
That’s funny.:p Maybe when she sees how much he means to you she will have a different opinion. Yorkies are very charming anyways, she’ll probably find herself slipping in a few kisses on him too. lol I can not tell you how many times I’ve had eyes rolled at me for having my dog in a dress, or in a stroller, or being held like a baby. I just think these people don’t understand and wouldn’t be so judgmental if they did. Happy Thanksgiving! :) |
I just wish my grandma could be with us on Thanksgiving! |
A lot of people do not understand our love for our dogs-->that includes my own hubby but as time goes by, I can feel his love grows for my little guy although not quite up to my par yet but I think he is getting there. Its important to give them some time to see what they meant to you. My father-in-law doesn't like dogs either but when he is at my house and my baby runs to him and greet him and lick him, I didn't do anything to stop him not because I do not respect him; I'd rather think of it as giving them some time and opportunity to know each other. He actually held him up and said "if you disturb me, I will turn you in to dinner but you are too small for my dinner". He is just joking and its really funny. |
How much fun you are going to have :) hahahahahaha |

Make sure you enjoy you grandma. Treat your baby as you usually would...but don\'t go out of your way to drive her insane. |
Hopefully your grandmom has a sense of humor about it! I don\'t think you\'re being mean to her or anything. It\'s not like you\'re going to be treating your yorkie any differently than you normally do. Have a happy turkey day! |

I agree with the above and what several others have said, your grandma is apparently not a dog lover, she does not share your views, why antagonize her by being disrespectful. I love my yorkie but all people don\'t share that feeling and its not right to impose your feelings. Don\'t rub it into her face, that would be horrible. My FIL does not share our love for my dog, when he is over he doesn\'t pet her or play with Gucci. I don\'t get mad.. I don\'t have my mom or a grandmother and I wish I did, life is too short, love your dog but love your family more... |
