For those with bigger babies My Reece is probably going to weigh 8 - 10 pounds. For you folks that have Yorkies in that range, is it still easy to carry them in a dog purse/carrier? I want my little guy to go with me everywhere and I have noticed that I can get by with taking him more places if he is in a carrier. What kind of restrictions have you noticed, if any, due to your Yorkie being on the large side. |
They do get heavy after a bit. I would suggest getting a carrier that goes across your body or has straps for both arms. Any movement of there weight can throw you off, so the better they like being in a carrier the nicer it is to carry them. I would suggest getting them used to carrier as a pup. Also with a bigger pup, you need to get a bigger carrier, which will all but eliminate the prospect of sneaking them into places they are not allowed. |
lexi is 8 to 9 pounds and she is really heavy carry around even in a carrier.. she is mainly tooo big for a carrier... i wish i could take her where ever i go.. ive tried so many carriers, i was using the front carriers, but she was too big for them, she would hang out of them and oh my back would kill me.. your not gonna believe this, but my little niece gave me her napsack and lexi fit perfectly in it... she looks weird, but who cares, shes with me...i havent taken her out yet in it... |
I dont carry chachi in a carrier. At 10 lbs he is just to heavy to carry around. I have another yorkie that is 6lbs and I carry her in a carrier but even she gets heavy. |
Unfortunately I am limited to taking Buddy with me. He was suppose to go everywhere with me but who knew he would reach 13lbs? I take him to the pet stores for food and treats thats it! He is heavy and will not fit into any carrier, a suitcase maybe!:D |

Mine is bigger than what was planned. He ranges between 7-8lbs. Long legs. I use a celltei carrier for errands and a carrier on wheels which is bigger if I take him to work and need him zipped up longer. He gets heavy but I am little. suzie |
Thanks everybody. I am glad I still have some hope of Reece being a shopping buddy. I have already started to carry him in a carrier so he will be used to it. Maybe my muscles will build up while he grows so that once he is grown he won't feel as heavy :p |
If you will be going to the malls, get a stroller.:D |
I have two yorkies. My larger one Lulu is 8 1/2 pounds. I have had the best luck with the original puppy purse. It is sold on the internet under that name for the website. I know many on here have objections to it, but if you measure your pup well and it fits perfectly, it is a godsend. When it fits perfectly, it is comfortable and convenient. It is only meant to carry them in, not keep them in as a confinement. But for my larger pup it allows me to be able to take her some places. However, the pup is not hidden, and it does garner attention at times because of its uniqueness. |
Try looking at www.petsplaza.com.au Its an Australian site but I know the carriers are sold in the US. They are car seats/backpacks/roller bags. Bailey LOVES hers and it says they are suitable for dogs up to 17 lbs |

The front, back and parts of the sides are black mesh netting for ventilation, so unless someone really looks inside the stroller, many people just assume it is a human baby in there! I have had some funny moments when people realize it is really 2 furbabies in there!! LOL! Little kids especially get a charge out of seeing 2 dogs in their stroller. Then when they get a good look at my Yorkie, who is always dressed when we go out; the kids really love it. I swear, I could make a fortune if I had an endless supply of Shih Tzu & Yorkie pups and the stroller, to sell. I am ALWAYS approached by someone that wants to know how to get either a Shih Tzu or Yorkie pup or the stroller. |
