Probably on a cold windy day you would get some draft through it. That's the downside of having them. But with mine being in the storm door, all I have to do is close the inside door, and then they can use the pee pad.

Believe it or not, we don't get a lot of draft through ours. Only if it's really windy outside and then it depends on which direction the wind is.

I bought a cat door for Millie because the opening was smaller than a doggie door and the flap was hard plastic and tends to keep the wind/cold out pretty good.

I love, love, love the doggie door. Millie goes in and out whenever she wants and so much more convenient!

What about mosquitoes, bugs, or heaven forbid, snakes getting in the house?? We really have a problem with mosquitoes in our area. Also my daughter said she saw a snake in our back yard yesterday. Would they be able to get in?:eek:

I love my doggie door.. they can go in and out when they want to a small fence in area..The larger area the are supervised..
I still have problems potty in the house
At nite I put a baby onezie on them. They will not potty in them
(so far) good luck and congrats on your new fur-baby

I have had a dog door for 10 yrs and only problem is flies during that season. I guess it depends where you live .But I have garden snakes and none have gotten in

We have had a doggie door for 10 years - I wouldn't live without one.

Our backyard is secure - high fence and locked gate - wire on the ground and a foot up the fence all the way around, so that they cannot dig out - the Yorkies don't dig, but the Jack Russel terrier did.

They go in and out of the house at will and although someone is always here, we don't always go out with them. I realize that there is a chance someone could scale the fence and steal them - but I just can't worry about that - they LOVE LOVE LOVE being outside and able to run in and out at any time. They would be so upset without the doggie door!

I think it really helped a lot with potty training - although Rowdy is not neutered, so he still marks some - but Rexy is neutered and he never has a pee accident - just poops sometimes in the house - when it rains ;) because you see, he might melt if he got wet! :rolleyes:

:thumbup: So that is why they do not go out side to pee when it rains they might melt???LOL GOOD ONE Rowdymom
What is the reason for sunshiny days they might sweat.. LOL.

We have 2 doggie doors that are side by side. One is for the 25 pound Cock-a-poos and one for little Lucinda. I can't say enough wonderful things about doggie doors. They are great for house training, for exercise, and for just letting a dog decide when it wants to go outside. The draft is not a problem. Rodents cannot come in because they cannot push open the door nor would they even think to try! The dogs go in and out so fast that nothing could get in with them and also the door shutting sound would frighten any rodents. The only draw back is that in rainy weather, we come home to wood floor that have little paw marks. But the pluses far outweigh the minuses!!!! It is so cute and interesting to see them choose to go in and out! It is more natural. None of the dogs get off the bed to go out at night, which is interesting. We got ours at Petsmart.
