i wonder what the breed standard would be if a panel of vets today made it? i bet it would be different.:) |

I think that the breed standard would be 10 lbs if everyone wanted 10lb Yorkies but that is not the case. Apparently the majority, including myself, want a smaller toy sized dog which is what the Yorkie standard requires. I am definitely not defending a 1# dog, if there is such a thing, but that dog would be within the Yorkie standard while a 10# would not. :aimeeyork |
there's an add in my local paper that says the mom is 11lb the dad is 3 lb i was like what in the world?!! |

i think if you have several people wanting a larger one on a list then i guess it wont be so bad cause some families want yorkies some are to fragile but i think its wrong when people expect a dog near a certain size then you get a large one i got brownie at a pet store not knowing any better (and i was pretty stupid) but the girl there even sweared up & down that he wouldn't be over 7 pounds (i know now they can garentee sp? it) but then i believed it i thought a yorkie was a little- ear up -long coat dog i got a 18 pound floppyeared yorkie i think its not fair but i wouldn't give him up or change him for anything (besides the barking lol) i wish more people stuck close to the standard esp on size not all yorkies are perfect in all ways but i think its unfair that breeders don't stick to it & someone not knowing gets the complete opposite to what they wanted i think if i didn't take brownie he would probably be in some rescue cause of his size make sure you have homes lined up if you are set on breeding them |
maybe it would be easyier for people to say what is the norm that they see walking down the road or what they think is the right size for a yorkie? as i said in the uk we are more use to seeing larger yorkies so to us this is the norm. as with undocked tails its the norm for us. i would say 10 pound yorkies are the norm in the uk. |
