Pet Smart nightmare!!!! You will die!!!!! I know this woman who took her baby Small dog(Not a Yorkie) to pet smart for grooming....and then went shopping. When she got back they said they needed more time because she wasn't done... My friend thought it was odd but went back out and when she came back the dog had a big bandage on it's tail... They had CHOPPED OFF THE TAIL!!!!! AND THEN.... had a staff worker put this poor thing in a BIKE BASKET AND THEN.... bike it off to the vet. ( We have a lot of foreigners that ride bikes because they don't own cars) WHen she came to get her dog that first time they lied and they said it wasn't done yet! They didn't TELL HER THAT IT WAS ON A BIKE ON THE WAY TO THE VET! Would you DIE!!!! I would have killed them!!!! Poor little baby hurting and bleeding on a BIKE bummping and boucing around in a basket to the vet. YIKES!!! And to think I used to go to pet smart!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!:getwell: :getwell: :getwell: |

OMG that is terrible! Actually I even find it really hard to believe. Is this lady a reliable source? Also, don't all petsmarts have a vet onsite? Either way, that is terrible. Poor puppy :( I would definitly file a lawsuit. |
I know the women that it happened to , but one of our friends from church told me the story tonight... I don't know about them having a vet one site???? Why would they? is that a normal thing to have a vet there???? |

Well... I am no master groomer by any stretch and have occasionally nicked one of my dogs but how does a groomer chop off a tail???? Teri |

I don't know if that story is true, but I know from a good friend that she took her pom in to PetSmart and they cut him under his front leg...when she called they told her he wasn't done...but she went up there anyway and asked to see him, and they were trying to get the bleeding stopped before they let her get him. She just took him from there to her vet to get him fixed up. I wouldn't take my babies to Petsmart, and have yet to go to a groomer yet that I was happy with (only two groomer trips). I am just learning as I go...they might not always look perfect, but I know they haven't been mistreated!! |
Well I have no idea how you chop a tail off... but I have never seen a vet in our pet smrt and I am in there all the time... They have trainers for classes.... We live on the cape. Not much big store shopping around here. I drive an hour to petsmart and the mall.... So this might be a smaller pet smart then most??? I have no idea. |
not all petsmarts have a vet on site. the one by me does, but the one my parents does not. If you use the store locator it tells you if it has grooming, a vet, and/or boarding. just fyi. but the story does sound a little weird... |

A lot of petsmarts have a vet there, just like how they have a grooming service there too. |

After hearing so many horror stories of different groomers, I'm learning to groom Rocky myself. Yeah he doesn't look perfect, but atleast I know he's in good hands, and if I do nick him, I have no one else to blame but myself. But hopefully that won't ever happen, I'm always really careful, and if I feel uneasy, I stop, even if he's half way done lol. I think for the face though I'm going to see if my vet can trim his hair there. |
OH THAT'S HORRIBLE! They should have atleast told her right away and not lie. That's so sick |

That is nuts and I cant believe they did that, I would be so pissed. That sounds so illegal on so many levels. She should defiently do some thing about it. |
That's it, I'm learning do my own. Anyone have any ideas on where I should start? |
No vets on site at our petsmart..thats for sure lol..can u imagine a tail being chopped off?? Maybe there were lots of thick mats on this dog and they were scissoring it off and then thought the tail was a big mat and cut it off too?? omg that sounds to dramatic doesnt it?? lol.. Dawn |
I'm not sure I believe this story - it would be very difficult to accidently cut a Yorkie's tail "off" ----- stop and think about this. Clippers couldn't do the job and it would take a lot of hard deliberate cutting to accomplish it with a pair of scissors - it couldn't be be done with just a "slip of the hand." But - but it would be very easy to accidently cut a Yorkie's tail - and there could certainly be some bleeding. This is what may have happened. (plus - how many of you professional groomers out there have ever accidentally cut a wiggley little dog -- or a wiggley big dog for that matter?????) Personally - I think it's a shame that so many many stories get started (probably with a grain of truth in the beginning) - but once they get going - they certainly seem to pick up steam and a lot of exaggerating takes place, and for some reason - everyone believes them and spreads them further. Before - you all get up in the air over this one - remember "Pet Smart" is in a position to have a lawsuit also - at least against - the primary person who started what I think is an untrue story about what was supposedly done in their store by their groomers...... with the way this story is spreading - it could certainly hurt their business. We have had a lot of "untrue stories" spread to a great extent right here on Yorkie Talk - as well as other forums....... not good!!!!!! **** I am reluctant to spread second-hand stories about people or businesses... as I am sure that a great majority of the stories I hear aren't true - or are exaggerated (and -- anything that is exaggerated - is not true either!) Plus some of these stories aren't even second hand --- they have gone through dozens of people before they reach me - even worse! Carol Jean PS: -- The only real complaint I have --- is that if anyone accidentally hurts or cuts a pet while grooming them - they should step up to the plate and call the owner immediately and tell them what happened. If something like this happened to one of my pets, I would want to know immediately, and, if he needed to go, I would want to take him to my own vet as soon as possible. Chances are with a "cut" a vet trip might not be necessary - but still proper and immediate care is in order. I'm the first one in the world to understand that accidents happen. I just want to be told as soon as possible when they do. |

Ok, I stated this thread so I feel I need to explain. I go to a church... The woman that this happened to used to live down the street from me, and also went to my church for years... was very involved. I know her PRETTY WELL...the friend that told me the story also goes to my church and I know her VERY WELL. She told me what happened. I have not talked to the person it happened to so ok it may not be the right story. I will call the owner today after she gets off work to see if the story has any flaws in it. This is not a story that was exaggerated on my part. I told you what I was told. I see your point about not letting stories get carried away and the threat of law suite, but if you read my original post i did say i knew the woman... I'll call her today to find out straight from the owner. I have a strong feeling it has alot of truth to it because knowing these two women as I do I can't imagine either one streching the truth to such a degree...Why would she lie? She has people from church come over often and they will see the tail! It could be the tail is just shorter who knows... but I'll make the call because I want to be as honest as I can here... |
I like to live by what my Grandmother taught me and that is to never believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. Sometimes I stray off a bit but it's a good rule to follow to keep down the rumors and stories from getting way out of hand. She also had one other bit of wisdom she told me whenever I had an itch and she would catch me scratching. She would say ain't no use rollin' 'em over, they got legs on both sides.:D My grandmother was a very wise woman.:p |

I was at the Petsmart store last week, I spent over an hour there talking and watching the groomer there. she has over 10 years experience, and to tell the truth I was going to make an appointment for my little ones. With all the horror stories about groomers I think I will take a class on grooming and do my own. Just to let you know, there is a Vet clinic in our Petsmart store. Thanks for the info.............:Pawprint: |
OMG that's horrible! |
i feel so sorrry for that puppy,, you knowstrange things do happen in life. there is probably alot of truth to this story,,,,, and let me tell you, if it was my puppy, that whole place would of been turned upside down... |
Hi Brooke, I live in Bridgewater, MA. The PetSmart in Brockton just got a vet a couple of months ago. Maybe they will get one down the Cape sometime. You can bring your animals in there to see the vet just like you would at a vet's office. What part of the Cape do you live in? Penny |
One of the great things about Yorkie fur, it grows back. So, if you trim it yourself and don't like it, do it differently next time:) . Teri |
All joking aside ... I would seriously hurt the groomer who chopped off my dog's tail. I am NOT joking in the least. |
I have 6 Yorkies and there is only one that I take to my groomer that's SunShine b/c of the soft spot I'm scared I will hurt her, The other ones I groom I have my own grooming room in my kennel, so like someone said If I nip them it's my own fault. I hope the little dog is doing better. |
I have used Petsmart for two years and had a couple of problems. I was in there picking Buddy up and a male groomer was screaming at a boxer on the table. I was shocked! The second time it took 5 1/2 hrs to get Buddy back. He was in a crate from 11:00 (my appt time) until 5:45 when I walked in to get him. He was on the table still being groomed! I was told they got backed up. Second one in and last to go. Made no sence to me and I told them is was not acceptable. I always used the same groomer. She was really nice. That was last June. I have let him grow in and just found a groomer 12mi from my house who does not use crates and only hand dryes. I know of her business and will make the trip as needed. I will never use Petco again. I went through their puppy classes as well and did not like anything about the instructor. He spent most of his time with the bigger dogs and owners ass kissing them to drumb up follow up private classes while the rest of us walked up and down aisles teaching our dogs to heal. That $100.00 was a waste of my hard earned money and I wrote a letter, did no good but it made me feel better. Carol & Buddy |
Most PetSmarts have vets on site, they are part of the PetSmart. Not sure if all do, but everyone I have seen has. |
