Major problem! I am currently taking a mini vacation and was going to take my yorkie along with me. I had everything packed and ready to go 5 hours before my departure time. I remembered putting Buttercup in his crate before picking it up and heading to the airport. Well, I failed to look inside his crate to make sure he was really in there but when I arrived and went to claim my luggages he was not in his crate! I freaked out and immediately notified the people at the airport. They had no answers for me and sent me on my way. I refused to leave and was escorted out by security. I called my mom for her to go check my house to see if he was there and he wasn't. So 3 hours after I went to my hotel I get a call. They found a dog and failed to give me descriptions of "the dog" they found. I rushed there and there was Buttercup shivering, shaking, matted, and covered in mud. I was furious. I want them to be held accountable for what happened but they refused. I had to take him to the groomer and have him shaved down and now he won't come outside of his crate! What should I do? |
OMG! I cannot imagine how devastated you were/are! I am so happy he is with you and safe. I imagine he is a bit traumatized and it will take him some time to "readjust" poor baby. I agree, the airlines needs to take accountability for this event. I am so upset and mad at them for you! |
OMG! I can't imagine! I don't know about you, but I'd be finding somebody to sue! These little guys are as defenseless as babies and have to be cared for as such! Sic 'em!!!! |
so sorry the airport takes no responsibility for anything they wont start now again Im so sorry |
awwwwwww poor baby! Just try to make him feel at home cuddleee! |
Wow that is so scary. Thank goodness you have Buttercup. Sad to say the airport/airlines are not going to do anything for you.. You could lodge a complaint just to make yourself feel better. Just give Buttercup extra hugs and kisses..........:hearts-xx |
What an awfull experience! I'm so sorry for you... Didn't they allow him in the cabin? |
where did they find him? |
shipping I am sooo happy to hear your found your Yorkie...whenever you ship a pup, put one of those plastic slip ties on the door to prevent it from coming open or anyone opening it...if there is a problem enroute with the dog, the tie can be easily cut off...there is no reason for anyone to remove the dog unless there is an emergancy...sometimes I have even put duct tape around the carrier to secured it. |

OMG I am so sorry that happened to lil buttercup. poor guy. I hope he is doing better soon. I always Drive to where I have to go with my Yorkies so I never had to deal with airlines. I hope you can get some answers and find out what happend soon.:ghug: from all of us to you. |
That must have been a 'heart stopper' .... Give him the love you always did and he will become more settled ... it must have been so traumatic for him ... but on the upside ... you have him .... As someone else said, the airlines do not even want to be held accountable for luggage .... How many others on here travel with their Yorkies? In Cabin or in a crate in the cargo area? |

You're very lucky he got found though, the statisitcs are sad about pets lost during transport in cargo... Give your little one a hug from me |
Oh man I can't imagine the way you felt when you realized he wasn't in his crate! Thankfully they found him though. This could have turned out A LOT worse than muddy fur. On a happier note, where did you two go on vacation? Was it just the two of you? I have a free airline ticket I need to use by January and I was thinking of going on vaca with Howie :) |
That must have been so frightening for you and Buttercup. Give him extra hugs and kisses. |
Holy cow! I can't even imagine! Thank God though that he is o.k. could have been a very different ending. Kim |
Awwww....give him hug and kisses! I'm sorry that had to happen! |
I'm glad you found him, that must have been scarey |
Can you tell us what airline? I have to fly in Dec. and I'm thinking of taking mine. |
Wow, I know if it had been me.....airport security would have escorted me out both times! So glad someone found him, and did call you. Yea, think we all want to know what airline that was! I may have to fly too one day. |
WOW, that must have been soooo scary!!!! gosh, I understand airline don't want to be held accountable for luggage, but a living creature is not just luggage!!!!! |
Oh wow how scary |
Oh man I would had a b***h fit with the air line. happy Buttercup is safe.Poor little guy, please give him :ghug: from us!! |
POOR BABY !! You didn't know if he was IN the crate to begin with ? Can I ask how that would happen ? If I were taking my girls on a plane I'd have been talking to them all the way to the airport and making sure they were ok on the ride in the car.....and for REAL making sure they were ok getting on a plane - I know I'm overprotective - but that is PRECIOUS CARGO....but...That's just me ....and I'm sure you were rushed - maybe you didn't close it up ??? Man are you lucky to have him back - poor baby |
What an awful experience!! Are you still on vacation and have yet to return? What do you plan for the return trip with your baby? I would think that based on the fact that your baby was not in his crate when you arrived to collect your luggage, they might "make an exception" and allow you to take him on board with you?? If it were me, I would be calling every possible number at the airlines until I found someone who would allow this. It is the least they could do for your distress. Even if the crate door was not locked all the way, I feel this is till unacceptable. They make your pay for your precious cargo in exchange for taking care of it. Good luc, to you and I hope you get some results!!! |
i double posted don't know how sorry. |
poor dog at least you got your baby back a little worse for the wear but back none the less i'm sure verything that happened was on video also maybe you could demand to talk to who is in charge over the whole airport? either way they are at fault and at the very least should pay for the grooming if nothing else. i believe they would have had to call the police to drag me out kicking and screaming! |
 I'm still shaking my head! I can't even IMAGINE such a thing! It sounds like a TOTAL miracle that you have him with you right now. So he DID make the flight? How on Earth would he have gotten muddy and matted? |
