Potter your little guys is precious!! IMO (which doesn't mean squat..lol) he does not appear to be a red-leg. But the nice thing about the wirey coat is it's easy to care for.

Just because the breeding topic came up. I'm gonna have to say I've heard both sides..use it for color and don't use it. I think this is something each breeder needs to decide. Personally, if I had to chose between a health issue or a red-leg yorkie (to do a test breeding mind you) I would definitely chose the red-leg. But then I also agree with correct coat. A TRUE silk coat is not an easy find unless your lines have a strong background of TRUE silk coats (again, this is just my opinion). As long as we all strive to do the best we can that's all that matters. We all may not follow the same pattern. But the end result should be the same. Producing champions that fit the standard. I know I am way off since I have yet to produce my own. Health is most important to me. Once I have a health foundation then I'll work on the perfect outward appearence. That's my story for now. Subject to change as I am still learning.

I hate to see breeders backbiting eachother. Makes me very sad.

This is what I want to say to the novice and anyone interested...it is possible to start with correctness and continue to breed correctness. When I say "correctness", I mean a sound dog of good coat, structure and temperment..perhaps not all ideal and a winner in each point, but far from wire, wool, red leg whatever...if breeding the best will still give you pups of pet quality...what will breeding the others give you?

The problem with a test breeding is..there is not such thing IMO...genes are so tricky, they lie in wait for a time least expected, then decide to rear their heads. What happens is, the breeder wastes much time and money to find the third or fourth generation is not coming out as planned...the quality and soundness has suffered.

If a breeder lacks strong blue, then breed into a line known for holding true to the blue/gold. The same with any trait desired by the breeder.
Stop experimenting with the breed...is my advise to any novice. Listen to tried and true practices of long time winners....not to say you can not think for yourself on type, lines etc...but when it comes to breeding you will be experimenting enough when you breed two "standard" acceptable Yorks together...let alone testing out the incorrect..Just my opinion, only my opinion, nobodies opinion but mine...

Potter - Your baby is precious regardless of whether or not he's a wirey, red-leg or whatever. My 2 could be pink with polka dots and I'd still love them and it sounds like you feel the same way. As long as they're healthy, happy, and loved - who cares!!

Potter your furbaby is a cutie and it sounds like he is loved very much. I am blessed with four yorkies and all are different sizes, colors, hair, and ect. Between the four of them I might have the pefect AKC show dog. lol. I have learned being on the site for over 2 years that there are members that I value there input and others I just scroll over. Please don't let anyone keep you from asking questions. There is a lot of great info and members on the site.

Your Yorkie is very cute btw!

Siu Pao (in chinese) means Pork Bun :p and no...we don't have plans to turn him in to a pork bun..just thought it would be cute :D We have heard of dogs named Dim Sum and all...but no Pork Bun yet so we name him that and its one of my husband's favourite food. :thumbup:

He is really precious to me. This thread really started from me just wanting to know more about my baby...he is not really feeling very well today and its discussed in another thread... Mommy is worried of him.

My Sadie has a red head and red legs I didn't know there was such a thing. Her hair is more wiry and very slow growing I have never cut her and she is 3 years old. I wonder if she is a true red legg I can't post pictures because my files are to big so I can't post

May be your opinion Pat but I will tell you it is also my opinon exactly. It isn't the first generation I worry as much about, it is the ones further on that can, and will, as you said rear up and bite you.

Potter, I had someone ask me if Molly was red legged and if she was purebred. All I asked was did anyone else have a yorkie with fine hair. I say watch out for the zealots. There are people who own yorkies and love them and then there are the obsessed. Learn if you ask a question there is no telling what you'll get. Take some with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong. I have learned a lot here and most people will give you great info. Most will go out of their way to help you. I enjoy reading post and the interaction with others that have yorkies. I hope this whole thing has not put you off. I don't think it matters if your little fellow is red legged. I think he is a sweetie. He kind looks like Molly. Well have a nice day. :)

Instead of making snide remarks about the "zealots" I think instead you should be happy that there are those on here that care about the breed and their future. The yorkie "obsessed" will be the ones that keep the standard of our breed what it is supposed to be. I am not a breeder or even a show exhibitor but I for one am thankful the "zealots"are out there.

This has nothing to do with anyones dog just a response to this particular post.

If you read the original post and all the post. You my understand what I am talking about. This was not a breeding post. Someone has just taken this post and changed it into that. I am glad there is a standard. I am glad there are people who are devoted to keeping it that way. I love my yorkie with all my heart who is a standard silk hair. I hate the fact that some breeders don't care about the standard and just breed for money. That being said, THIS IS NOT A POST ABOUT BREEDING!!!! Maybe my words were not chosen wisely. I still feel like an inocent question was asked and it didn't deserve the response it got. I am sorry if offened and one. I still hope Potter is not turned off by the reaction she got.
