I have a 12 yr old 22 lb Mainecoon....His name is McKenzi...i paid $500.00 for him when he was 10 weeks old...I didn't have a choice...he was brought out to me from the breeder...He also had a limited registration...He is a brown tabby and very very grumpy...He has attacked ME! McKenzi has been around alot longer than the girls...he will play...very little...from time to time but most of the time he sleeps...he is not an outside cat...He has his claws and has snagged the girls a couple of times...I hear of more people owning MaineCoons now than ever before...Of course alot of people feel just because the shelter told them it's mainecoon or it is big, or it looks like a racoon, that it is a pedigree mainecoon...this isn't always the case... |
My first Maine Coon or Norweigan Forest Cat (MC, I think) came from a shelter. Didn't know what he was till he hit about 25 lbs. so we started doing some research. The second was free, and hit 30 lbs. We have a mix now that is about 22 lbs. Great cats. And we have a tuxedo stray that we found when she was about 5 weeks old in a mud hole. Both cats get along great with Roxy. Chloe (the tuxedo) wrestles and plays tag with Roxy every nite. When the cats are in the back yard and it's time to come in, all I have to say is "Go get the kitties" and Roxy is out the door and rounds them up and chases them inside. I have caught them sleeping together. They get along fine. |
ha ha ha Tila annoys our cats, they are outdoor and stay in the front house so she's not aorund them too much our other dog is best friends with our cats, it took them a while to get used to her though. But now they clean eachother and cuddle it's very cute. Especialy since you usually only see that happen when the animals are young, and they're all old-ish! |
Jake and Callow (cat) have a mutual respect for each other. Sometimes you can catch them laying on the sofa curled up together or eating from the same bowl like best friends. Other times you hear the ruff housing, then there are times when thay can't stand to be near each other. I've cought them and it's most always Callow picking with Jake for some reason. :animal-pa |
I actually have a yorkie, and two other mid sized mixed dogs. I also have two inside cats. We have to do it this way. At the top of my stairs is a gate. The dogs live downstairs and the cats live upstairs. That's the way it has to be because the dogs love to chase the cats. |
Grayson has been with us about 3 weeks and I won't let him be alone with the cats I have 2. Dusty has accepted Grayson but not quite like I want her to it's more of a "well if I have too". Pepper watches Grayson and she will swat and hiss at him both of my girls are declawed. Grayson will bark only at Pepper they have stare downs and she will hiss and he will bark back in return, I hope they all will get along wonderful and I will have cute pictures of my kitties loving on Grayson! |
Yorkie & Cats When my Yorkie, Gracie, came into the family there were already two Chihuahuas, and four cats (3 females & 1 male). From day one Gracie has adored the cats. All of the cats are double or triple her size. Its adorable to watch, whenever she sees any of the cats she wags her tail so much and so fast the entire back half of her body wiggles. At first the cats were a little apprehensive, but within a week they were OK with her. Some are move lovable - but none have ever attempted to hurt her. If they get their fill of Gracie, they will just jump to higher ground to "take a break." I don't know if I would trust other cats around her though. P.S. The Chihuahuas love her too !!!:animal36 :cat: |
I’ve never heard of a Maine Coone cat. What are they? Why are they so expensive? Does anyone have any pics? |

You are absolutely right. A Maine Coone is bred for size height color and especially personality. Just because a cat is large doesn't make it maine coone or part Maine Coone. If a domestic cat has thick long hair it might have a bit from a long time ago in the breeding. But if it doesn't have the nature and height it is not Maine Coone because they are bred for their gently nature and their beautiful color and height. I do all the pet show circuts in Toronto. Any pet show that comes I go. Not for the dogs but for the cats. I adore my two Coones. But when I go to the shows I see cats that would blow your socks off. We have some of the best Maine Coone breeders around in Ontario. The Maine Coones up here are 17lbs to 25lbs and they are as slim as they come. Troie |

I ordered another little yorkie from Chiquita's breeder to keep Chiquita company for the rest of her life, so I think she will lose interest in tormenting my cats. Troie:) |

Mine get along great I have 2 maine coons. One was a rescue (Tallulah- +12 lbs) at a few weeks of age and the other was bought (Mika- +12lbs). They both get along great with my little Cozy (+8 lbs.). Mika is the queen of the household and everyone else is her subjects including the +120 lbs. golden retriever. Tallulah loves to play with the dogs. |
