Yorkies and cats Hi everyone, I live in a large condo with my little 5lb Chiquita and before she came to live with me, I owned 2, 15 year old cats. Maine Coone cats. From the moment Chiquita saw these cats she loved them and did everything to get their attention. She is 15 months old right now and not only lives with two gentle giants (That is what people call Maine Coones, because they start at 17lbs) she won't leave them alone. When I drop Chiquita off at my best friends house she plays with my girlfriends cat who is 5 years old. Question is how many people have yorkies living with cats in the house? If you have a yorkie and a cat how is going? For me it is remarkable to see such a little dog dominate two large older cats. Both these cats are fixed but not declawed and have never shown any aggression at all. Let me know Troie;) |

Mine get along 1 Attachment(s) Here is Daisy 5 pounds getting a bath from my 24 pound part maincoon part everything else loving 13 year old cat Stormy he was here 9 years befor she came along. they love eachother.:p |

Well my Daisy loves my 20lb cat..(he is just super fat). He on the other hand has never been aggressive but gets annoyed with her trying to always bite his ears!:p He usually just walks away or jumps on the couch. Daisy can't jump on the couch yet! |

Max loves any other animal, I think, LOL! I have 2 cats, both about 12 yrs old, one is a Maine Coon and she loves to play with Max..he jumps on her and if she gets tired of it, she swats at him and then goes somewhere that he can't, hehe. It's really cute to watch them play. My male cat, is very timid and is just getting kind of used to him. He used to run away from Max, but now, he'll kind of stand him down, LOL. He's just not used to such activity. But neither of the cats have ever hissed at him even the first time they saw him:) . |

I wish I had as good of luck as all you with your cats and yorkies....I have a huge cat also about 25 lb...Im guessing hes part maincoon by his height...but they have never became friends and I have had Lady for about 6 months now...Jager (my cat) did not like Lady at all when we first brought her home...he was growling all the time at her and hissing...now he pretty much tolerates her...hes constantly swatting at her though the gate...and he'll run after her when shes out playing but when he swats her she crys and gets very upset at him...hes not declawed (im always cutting his nails) so Im always worring about Lady getting hurt and I never leave them alone in a room together, I still don't trust Jager with her...I hate the fact that they can't just be cute little friends... |

My puppy is 10 weeks old, my ragamuffin is 9 mos old. Fonzie (the cat) is about 11lbs and Bobo (the yorkie) is about 1lb and a few oz. Bobo has only been here a few days and so far Fonzie thinks I got him his very own play toy, Bobo will go after Fonzie also, so hopefully things will calm down soon with these two. I can tell that Fonzie is jealous, I try to spend time with only him still, too bad there are not more hours in the day. It is great hearing all the happy cat dog stories. Tammy |

I have a 3 yr old Tonkinese cat, Misty Blue, that weighs about 8 pounds. When I first brought Abbey home Misty Blue hid under the bed for a week. Whenever the puppy went under there, she would just hiss at her. But, after a week she came out and decided "Maybe this is a new toy", and started to play with Abbey. At first they played so rough I was afraid one of them would get hurt, but now just rough house some of the time. Every night everyone gets in the bed while we watch tv and Misty Blue puts one arm over Abbey and washes her from head to toe. Abbey just lies there quietly...it is their night time ritual. Then they both go to their part of the bed and sleep until Abbey has to go in her crate for the night. They share toys, chase each other around the house and if Abbey 'has an accident' and misses her pee pads, Misty Blue is right there trying to cover it up. Sometimes I have found Misty Blue in Abbey's crate, lying in her bed. They really are best friends. Much more so than with our 6 yr old toy poodle. Katie pretty much ignores both of them. I really was surprised at how well they get along. Who knew? Ellie |

I have a foster home for cats and dogs and never had problems with them . |

When Stump was about 4 months old (It was last X-mas) we were at a relative's house and she has like 6 cats! Anyway, Stump tried playing with one and she scratched him in the eye. I had never seen him cry so much, his whole face was covered in tears and he was whining soo much. My brother was like "Can I kill the cat" and I told him no because she probably was annoyed by Stump and trying to protect herself. But I've decided Stump and cats don't mix. |

GiGi has 3 kitties at home.... 1 is a 20 pound maine coon. He is the most gentle with her...... but GiGi thinks of them as big moving toys, and they mostly play together! |

It’s amazing how many of us own Maine Coons, as they are not easy to find, and mine was $750.00. Just curious as to how much they cost where you live. Anyway, both Surfie and Tiki think they are the mom and dad to Kona. She will be one next month and weighs in at 8.6 pounds. They are constantly licking her eyes and ears, and it is so darn cute. I’m lucky, as they ADORE each other. The hubby really wants another Maine Coon, but with the three fur-triplets, I’m done for now. |

I have two cats and three dogs in my house. Harley and Sweet Pea love to sleep with my cats and whiskey loves to chase them around the house and pounce on them and chew on their ears till they howl!!! I got my daughter a 6 month old male cat(Mr. Cuddles) from the American Humane Society(already fixed) for her birthday in April. Then my youngest dtr. wanted her very own baby kitty so I got another male kitty(Mr. Kitty) a few days older than Whiskey. He just got fixed himself. Anyway I brought Whiskey and Mr. Kitty home the same day and they think they are brother and sister they are always up each others butts!!!:p I have never had a problem with either cat clawing or biting my dogs they all just play and snuggle together all the time. |

Our maine coon was free, given to us by a good friend,as an engagement gift :p . Our other 2 kitties were rescue kitties. |

My cat and My yorkies ignore each other usually. Sometimes Jewels will bark at Checkers our cat but we always make her stop. If they get around Checkers she hisses at them |

Gracie's brothers and sisters are 4 cats. Gracie loves them all, but is partial to the smallest of the cats. She gets along better with the male cats than with the females. I think that is because the males just have nicer dispositions, more accepting and more tolerant. They all sleep in bed with me, so obviously all is not war at our house! The challenge is keeping the cats out of the dog food and the dog out of the cat food! |

I have a 12 yr old 22 lb Mainecoon....His name is McKenzi...i paid $500.00 for him when he was 10 weeks old...I didn't have a choice...he was brought out to me from the breeder...He also had a limited registration...He is a brown tabby and very very grumpy...He has attacked ME! McKenzi has been around alot longer than the girls...he will play...very little...from time to time but most of the time he sleeps...he is not an outside cat...He has his claws and has snagged the girls a couple of times...I hear of more people owning MaineCoons now than ever before...Of course alot of people feel just because the shelter told them it's mainecoon or it is big, or it looks like a racoon, that it is a pedigree mainecoon...this isn't always the case... |

My first Maine Coon or Norweigan Forest Cat (MC, I think) came from a shelter. Didn't know what he was till he hit about 25 lbs. so we started doing some research. The second was free, and hit 30 lbs. We have a mix now that is about 22 lbs. Great cats. And we have a tuxedo stray that we found when she was about 5 weeks old in a mud hole. Both cats get along great with Roxy. Chloe (the tuxedo) wrestles and plays tag with Roxy every nite. When the cats are in the back yard and it's time to come in, all I have to say is "Go get the kitties" and Roxy is out the door and rounds them up and chases them inside. I have caught them sleeping together. They get along fine. |

ha ha ha Tila annoys our cats, they are outdoor and stay in the front house so she's not aorund them too much our other dog is best friends with our cats, it took them a while to get used to her though. But now they clean eachother and cuddle it's very cute. Especialy since you usually only see that happen when the animals are young, and they're all old-ish! |

Jake and Callow (cat) have a mutual respect for each other. Sometimes you can catch them laying on the sofa curled up together or eating from the same bowl like best friends. Other times you hear the ruff housing, then there are times when thay can't stand to be near each other. I've cought them and it's most always Callow picking with Jake for some reason. :animal-pa |

I actually have a yorkie, and two other mid sized mixed dogs. I also have two inside cats. We have to do it this way. At the top of my stairs is a gate. The dogs live downstairs and the cats live upstairs. That's the way it has to be because the dogs love to chase the cats. |

Grayson has been with us about 3 weeks and I won't let him be alone with the cats I have 2. Dusty has accepted Grayson but not quite like I want her to it's more of a "well if I have too". Pepper watches Grayson and she will swat and hiss at him both of my girls are declawed. Grayson will bark only at Pepper they have stare downs and she will hiss and he will bark back in return, I hope they all will get along wonderful and I will have cute pictures of my kitties loving on Grayson! |

Yorkie & Cats When my Yorkie, Gracie, came into the family there were already two Chihuahuas, and four cats (3 females & 1 male). From day one Gracie has adored the cats. All of the cats are double or triple her size. Its adorable to watch, whenever she sees any of the cats she wags her tail so much and so fast the entire back half of her body wiggles. At first the cats were a little apprehensive, but within a week they were OK with her. Some are move lovable - but none have ever attempted to hurt her. If they get their fill of Gracie, they will just jump to higher ground to "take a break." I don't know if I would trust other cats around her though. P.S. The Chihuahuas love her too !!!:animal36 :cat: |

I’ve never heard of a Maine Coone cat. What are they? Why are they so expensive? Does anyone have any pics? |

You are absolutely right. A Maine Coone is bred for size height color and especially personality. Just because a cat is large doesn't make it maine coone or part Maine Coone. If a domestic cat has thick long hair it might have a bit from a long time ago in the breeding. But if it doesn't have the nature and height it is not Maine Coone because they are bred for their gently nature and their beautiful color and height. I do all the pet show circuts in Toronto. Any pet show that comes I go. Not for the dogs but for the cats. I adore my two Coones. But when I go to the shows I see cats that would blow your socks off. We have some of the best Maine Coone breeders around in Ontario. The Maine Coones up here are 17lbs to 25lbs and they are as slim as they come. Troie |

I ordered another little yorkie from Chiquita's breeder to keep Chiquita company for the rest of her life, so I think she will lose interest in tormenting my cats. Troie:) |
