Poor baby. I would just keep her as comfortable as possible and hopefully the meds kick in and help her with the itching. What meds did the vet put her on? Chachi was on Prednisone. It really helped him but i noticed he slept more also.

I am so glad you got a diagnosis and have started treatment for her. Best of luck to both of you. I am also glad that you have found a vet you like.

I think you definitely shouldn't get another right now if the vet said not to. I would however, tell the breeder what is happening in case any of the other pups might have it and need treatment. I would think that a responsible breeder wouldn't want you to take the other pup right now. Gia is going to need all your attention for a while.

I'm keeping you and Gia in my prayers and thoughts....what a thing to happen! Such a sweet baby too! But at least she's eating...that's a GOOD thing, IMO. Just let her sleep, that has to help her immune system too. I hope she recoves quickly from this. I personally wouldn't bring a new companion home right now, only b/c you have enough to deal with with Gia, and she needs your full attention right now....but maybe you're better than I am with new pets! Thanks you guys for all your get wells & your prayers. My little Gia s a fighter :D :D I'm happy to report she is up & chopping down on her favorite bone. She even started attacking my socks :D :D (Gia has a sock fetish). of course she's not 100% yet but she's doing a lot better than what she was a few hours ago. I kept checking on her to see if she was breathing :( .
that's how out of it she was. ( iwonder if she is going to be like this with every treatment). I'm going to call the vet again tom. to see if there is any food I can give her to build her immune system up
The scratching has just about stopped her skin even looks a lot better than earlier, the bumps are still there but not as red & not as swallow

That's so good that she's more active! I know how you feel though~I'm a nurse, and I am beside myself if anything happens to my animals; they're so helpless and they can't TELL you how they feel, so I don't blame you for being a little frantic!

Gia is doing a lot better,she's moving around & back to her old self :D :D
Her skin is very red almost blk & blu but the vet told me it would be that way until she's done with treatment. the dip seems to have changed her texture of her coat. It's very dry and cotton looking & I also noticed when I comb her she is shedding a lot more than usually (but I can't treat her with anything, no oils, no baths, no nothing)
Well we decided to get her brother today based on the fact that Chewy was paid for & Gia was feeling much better
First things first

His plane was over 4 hrs late . Poor thing was in a carrier from 10am this morning until 7:30pm tonight

He got car sick on the way home or maybe he got sick from being on the plane that long:mad:

He smelled like he hadn't been washed since he was born (which was May 9th), the smell almost made me puke
Soon as I got him home I gave him some food & off to the bath he went.
He ate a little but not a lot I also gave him some nutrical (spelling)

As I was blow drying him I noticed his hair was very thin and he seemed to be suffering from the same thing Gia has (demodex) His scalp was very red
I had called the breeder before he left in the morning (6:45am) because she had not responded to my emails about Gia or Chewy's departure verification & she told me he was on meds for some kind of skin irritation but I didn't think it was this bad. His whole belly and thighs are completely red

Chewy seems very withdrawn, when I got Gia she was all over the place , very friendly Chewy is the complete opposite

I know he's in a new environment & he needs to adjust but something just isn't smelling right, he seems so sad

I'm taking him to the same vet I took Gia to first thing in the morning so he can get on the right meds (because the med that was sent with him (the pink kind that smell like bubble gum) I don't think is going to cut it) & I also want to take him just to make sure he's okay . Looking at his shot record it doesn't even seem like he's had a stole sample done before

I kept Gia & Chewy separated for tonight. With Gia's resistance being down I don't want her to pick up anything if Chewy does have anything.

Hopefully we can get him started with treatments & they both can be 100% & happy

Oh my, that doesn't sound good AT ALL. Did you get another Yorkie? Please let us know what your vet says and how he is doing. Glad to hear that Gia is feeling better.

Even though Demodex (also called Red Mange) is not inherited, the deficiency of the antibodies to fight the mites infection is inherited. The breeder needs to know that now two of her puppies have shown this. The mother dog probably has mites and is transferring them to the puppies who are not resistant. The breeder probably needs to stop breeding the mother. It is hard to believe a responsible breeder would send out a puppy with a known skin condition that had not been thoroughly checked out. She needs to at least share in your vet bills and maybe even refund $$. I am so sorry this is happening to your babies and hope for their speedy recovery!

I took Chewy to the vet:

He is loaded with demodex worst than what Gia has and being that his demodex hasn't been treated he has developed a skin infection over the demodex

He has ear mites

A fever

I paid 199.99 today for everything today

My poor puppy is so sick

He has yet to eat or make a bowel movement

So I've been giving him the nutrical & trying to encourage him to eat & drink water

Do not buy from this breeder & I even gave her good praises on here before (when I first got Gia), she is also a member on here Carteryorkies and her web site is www.carteryorkies.com

It's funny because when she wanted her $$$ she would email me back & forth all week. once I got in touch with her about Gia I didn't hear from her (only when I called her at 6:45am)

There is no way she could have not known that Chewy was sick, my Mom told me to send him back, but I can't do that

He would die, he's already been neglected & abused

The doctor is also going to start him on dips next week but he wants to wait until he eats to build up strength to take the powerful treatments

He afraid to be held & if you try to pet him he backs up (all signs of physical abuse)

He weights 4.9 & is very cute but very sad

Just pray for my babies !! I'm trying to be the best Mom I can be, even if it means using up my savings to get them better

You are being a very good mom to these babies! The breeder has handled this terribly and she should have been more responsible. The Vet that issued the health certificate should have picked up on all these obvious symptoms and he should not have been issued a certificate to fly at all!
So sorry you are having to deal with this, it is unfair and the breeder should compensate you. I will tell you that even compensating is not enough. The breeder should have treated this before shipping, or offered you a full refund since this puppy is not healthy at all.

I really think you may have to keep Gia and Chewy seperated for a bit longer.

With that little bit of medicine Chewy has perked up (he doesn't look as sad anymore) of course he still has a long recovery

He's eating a little more, we even heard him bark :D :D Him & Gia were having a conversation through the babygate (we have them separated until Monday when stole sample comes back & once his skin irritation clears up which will probably be in about a week or so) The demodex is not contagious so once his ear mites, & everything else clears up then they can PLAY !!!!

Demodex are mites and they can definately go from one pet to another -- even to a human in rare circumstances. But young puppies can be more susceptible to the demodex mites, because their little immune systems are not fully developed yet.

You are fortunate to have found a vet to diagnose this so soon. I lost a Sharpei years ago to this. It took a third vet, after months of getting progressively worse with futile treatments, to finally give a correct diagnose. By then, it was too late as her CNS was affected by the underlying immune problem.
Your little ones are fortunate to have such a loving caregiver as you to make sure they get well.
I do hope you find the way to report this breeder for her abusive lack of care and concern.

You poor baby. I went through a lot when we got Piper. She was very sick also. Having mommy's like us to take care of them, is the best. My vet told me when I took her in, she was lucky to have me. She is now parasite free, and doing great. I'll pray your baby doesn't suffer much.

Gia is jealous, they were sniffing eachother through the baby gate & Gia ended up knocking the gate over & took off after Chewy (playing). She can't get worms that way (if they jump on eachother) ??? (Sorry if I sound dumb) but I can't take another set back. Gia is fine & I don't want her to come down with anything besides what she already has.

I am so sorry she has had this experience. Her puppy came down with the demodex about one to two weeks ago, according to what she wrote me. I was working til late at night and didnt see her emails for several days. It is harvest time,and we have a drought going so we have been working very late. She had my number. She could have called. Instead she got furious and decided to hurt me. (She emailed that she was going to hurt me.) Her Gia was beautiful, and fine for several months after she received her. That is why she wanted another puppy from me.

Ive been reading up on this demodex and it can definitely be brought about by stress or poor diet. I am not sure what brought hers about. If the parents had it, they never showed any signs. This is a fact which can be verified by my vet. None of my Yorkies have had any signs of demodex, until Gia in New Jersey. I have read that all dogs have the mites and just some break out with them, due to stress. It makes me wonder what has happened in the months since I sold her that puppy?

We agreed for her to buy this puppy she named Chewy several months ago and she just never paid for him. I found out she does not tell the truth when she claimed to send a payment for him , and later pretended to be worried that it had not arrived. It took weeks. I was concerned, and finally it arrived. It was postmarked for two days before it arrived, and the purchase date on the money order was also two days before! So, she was lying on that issue too. I have the printed proof.

This was the parents first litter and neither of them have ever had the Demodex problem, nor have their grandparents who I also raised. I dont believe Chewy had worms or Demodex. I know for a fact she does not tell the truth all the time. I have not seen her vets report, but I do know he passed my vets inspection the day before he flew out of here! If he had worms after being treated on my regular deworming schedule with anthelcide and with ivermectin for the ear mites, then I'll eat my hat! What she wrote to me was, "I'll bet he has demodex too and probably worms!" She assumed the worst. He did have puppy dermatitis- a skin rash- on his tummy ...which is not a normal place for demodex. Acccording to vet info it is found on the shoulders, back, or neck areas, usually. I bought an antibiotic which we discussed on the phone and I shipped it to her in ice packs to continue its use. He had ear mites which I had already treated with ivermectin for those. I am a caring person. I love my puppies. We discussed both conditions the morning he was to be shipped, and she still wanted him shipped. So I sent him.

I sign my litters up for AKC health insurance which is free for 60 days for the new owners. Its one of the perks of buying an AKC puppy, so that vet bills should have been covered with no expense to her. She is crying about Chewys vet bills but if she tells the truth, she should not have any.

He was in the crate for the plane from 8 am til 7 pm, due to airline delays. They require you to be there an hour early. He was clean, freshly bathed, before he left here. She was furious that he smelled bad. That is unreasonable to think any puppy would take a long series of flights and delays! and not get air sick, or pee, and smell bad. So she tried to use that to make me look bad too.

He was three months old when he was sold and five months old when she had him paid for. I have had him a long time, and he is attached to me.. I told her he was the quiet type of puppy who will sit on your lap to be brushed or watch tv, and takes a bath so sweetly. He is not the hyper type like his sister. She told me that would be good - he might be a good influence on his sister, whom she says is wild. Now she claims he was abused. That is another lie. She is using his personality against me to try to make me look bad, even tho' he was just as I described and she liked it before. I told her it would take time for him to adjust since Ive had him for so long.
I recently bought an older puppy from another breeder. It has taken patience for her to warm up to us, as well, but we would not dream of claiming she was abused! As a matter of fact, those folks are very reputable, they show , and are on the YTCA board!! AND they toured my place and saw my dogs and thought that pup might be show quality. They LOVED the parents! So, they obviously saw and knew my dogs are healthy and happy. I am not a big breeder. My dogs get plenty of attention by my children and me and are played with alot and well socialized on our farm. Chewy is just a calm one. I am sure the unpleasant flight delays didnt do him any good either. She should have been more patient with him. Instead she chose to make it public on YT in a way that might damage my reputation. I am sure everyone has known someone like this... VERY emotional and impatient, not knowledgeable, very quick to judge and think the worst of others.....hurtful... I could go on. But this is my first experience with a client trying to hurt my reputation, trying to put a negative spin on things which we discussed and she knew ahead of time.

I have given her several times to back out of the agreement during the long time she has delayed, including by phone the day he was shipped. During this delay she did not mention that Gia had demodex to me, but I see now that she did write to YT that she had used a human shampoo and Gia broke out right after that. Perhaps the stress of that human shampoo was the problem which started Gias irritation and allowed the mites in...

I know she has already written in many times and has many people upset at me. I was just made aware of this thread last night. But please, before you make judgements, weigh into it the fact that until this litter, I have never had demodex in 33 years of raising and loving Yorkies. Please consider my side as well. And thank you to those of you who didnt blindly accept everything she says as fact. It is not fact. Much of it is fiction.

I commend you for coming and giving your side of the story. As Kim said there are always 2 sides to a story. You're basically saying the exact opposite of what she's claiming. While I'm leaning towards believing your story I think there was some contradictions in your post. First you claim your puppies had a great bill of health that there was nothing wrong then you say, OH but he did have Dermatitis. That to me is not a perfect health. No matter how minor the problem, that's still not perfect health. You also state that the parents never had it so you're not sure where Gia got it from but according to the vetinfo website here is the answer:
ANSWER: Your assumption that the mother dog has "never had" Demodex is probably not valid. Demodex mites have been proven to inhabit the hair follicles of many, many dogs, humans and other mammals without causing the host any problems at all. So these mites can be present in normal and healthy individuals (who have inherited the immune factors needed to keep the mites suppressed). So just because you have not experienced a visible skin lesion on your dog does not mean that the dog has no mites present.
Demodex can also be found on the tummy as many website mention. Anyway, it's not up to us to judge the situation. It sounds like you both have inconsistencies with your stories. So maybe it's best you guys work it out somehow because it's not about you guys, its about making sure the puppies are healthy and happy.

To prove my point I will scan Chewy's vet bills, and test results & post them & show that I am not lying ( i have nothing tolie about), I was not made aware of the fact that he was covered for 60 days through AKC (at all), all I received was his AKC registration & a shot record (that is not even legit because Chewy has ear mites & worms 7 it clearly states on the shot record he was dewormed 3x's & checked for ear mites). It's so funny because Chewy has been here over a week & now you decided to respond, she didn't even check to see if Chewy arrived safely on the 20th (busy or not how long does it take to see if I got him & if he was okay ???) . Chewy should have never been sold for 950.00 , you even stated he was possibly show dog material

I've reduced the price to $950 for the friendly little bit taller boy. He is the one left. They look very much the same and are very close in weights. It is so funny. Another of my clients who already has a cute Yorkie pup said her dad has fallen in love with him and wants another of my boys. I have one other 6 week old boy who will be a larger one, and told them about him, and the Gia brother.

Just had some pro Yorkie people out here today. I bought one of their show girls so my little boy can start showing dogs. They were very impressed with the two boy puppies who are Gias brothers- SO, I'm happy. I said I thought they would be show quality and they agreed. Yay! They loved Gia's daddy, Max too. I put a new picture of him on my site after yesterdays bath- he is so cute now. I'll send Chewys weight tomorrow if I can remember it. Prob about 3-4 lbs.

I trusted you & you lied, Chewy arrived with bald spots & was flithy.I didn't expect him to look like he just finished being bathed but this dog was just plan filthy. How do you explain two dogs from the same litter both having the same condition. Gia is in no way mistreated or stressed & if you thought that why would you sell me another dog. Chewy came here with aliments & you knew about them (you just wanted to get rid of him) The medicine that he was on wasn't even the right medication.I don't know who cleared him to fly but they need they license snatched back. I asked you if he had demodex, you responded no that he had a rash. Yet he had so much demodex it was found in his stool & his hair had to be shaved down because his hair was coming out in patches. Don't believe me I'll give you my vet's number & you can verify everything with them & I'll make sure to scan those medical bills so everyone can see I am not lying

Something that really bothers me, not just about this situation but some people in general. When it's time for someone to BUY a dog, the seller is so on top of the messages, e-mails and calls. When something goes wrong, the sellers are quick to say they were busy or didn't check their e-mail. That's a shame that when something goes wrong suddenly the breeder is busy :rolleyes: which is when they should care the most.

People are going to believe who they want to believe. I just hope no one would be that naive to think I have made all of this up & have be spending money on vet bills & on yorkietalk stressing the past week for nothing.No one has tried to make you look bad Lisa, you made yourself look bad by selling me a pup that had aliments & not giving me the full description of what they where.

I am just curious..aren't they supposed to be full siblings? Why does one say yorkie poo and the other yorkie? And 2 different owners? I am not doubting anyone or anything just a couple of things that stood out in the paperwork.

Chewy will be on antibiotics for the next three weeks for his skin rash

And he must undergo dippings until his skin scraping come back negative for demodex

You told me Chewy was a lap dog & quite (that I knew) but this dog was afraid to even be touch or even be held. Chewy has been here for a week & has opened up a little but is still very frightened. I still can't believe after a week you respond.:eek: :eek:

The receptionist made a typo on the paper work when she was putting Chewy's information into the system. It was corrected but after the paperwork was already printed. When I go back today I will get the updated paperwork that says "yorkie" just so there are no doubts to what I have said.

He is not hyper- rather he sits quietly on your lap to be brushed so maybe he will be good for her.

Gia might be allergic to the kind of shampoo you or your groomer are using. Try Emu oil on her coat- rub it in at her skin- helps with dandruff and feels good too. I put a drop of Advantage flea drops from the vet on them and they just dont have fleas. Fleas would cause itching too.

I havent had time to ride any puppies in the car lately..We are at the end of harvest and working every day til late in the peanut and hay fields so the dogs stay home in their play pen all day.

Chewy was originally for my Mom, she fell in love with Gia so much that she wanted one for herself. But things didn't work out so I ended up taking responsibility for him (my Mom's job relocated & she had to move & the place she moved to doesn't allow pets).She was there with me at the vet that day so while I was talking to the doctor about what could be done & what to do with Chewy, she was getting Chewy's information put into the computer with the receptionist (receptionist put Chewy in her name , not really a big deal because when I can't take them to the vet she does)

And the paperwork is under Chewbacca not Chewy. Chewbacca is his full name
