Cotton coats feel soft and fluffy to the touch while silk coats feel cool and silky. Cotton coats will tangle and matt really easy and are alot harder to take care of then a silk coat. Both types of coat can grow down to the ground, although cotton coats tend to grow faster than silk coats. Both coats can be thick, though I have not seen any cotton coats that were thin like a silk coat can be. Also, silk coats will have alot of shine while cotton coats lack shine. It can take up to 2 years for a yorkie's coat to reach full length or floor length. Sophie's mom, I think Sophie has a silk coat judging from the pictures in your avatar. |
3 Attachment(s) My Jazzie has super thick & cottoney hair too! It takes time to care for it like all the others posted here but I love her coat! Take a look! |

I use Pantene leave-in conditioner once or twice a week as I brush her. Shampoo: Baby shampoo for the head and Earth Bath Oatmeal for the body. Conditioner: Pantene Deep Conditioning Formula. That's it. Nothing else. I am curious about the CC stuff. I wonder if they have a trial size? |
I am still unsure of her hair type. It is really soft to the touch and shines when she is brushed but it is so thick and it tangles soooo easy. I wish someone could see her in person. Oh yeah her eyes glow red if that is true about cotton coats eyes glowing red.:) |
I have one of each.Neo has a silky coat and Maggie has a cottoney coat.I love Neos coat because its so smooth and shiny.Maggies is all over the place. |
Ive ask this so many times 1 Attachment(s) Kizzy will be 6 months old August 3, and I still have no idea if she is cottony or silk. She looks more cottony to me but her hair doesnt mat. But its not that shiny either. but i'm not sure if I would know cotton coat from silk coats. Not sure how you tell other than I've heard on here that cottony coats do mat more. Hers is always soft. So I havent a clue if I would know whatever it ends up when I see it. lol duhhhh on me I guess. Her eyes usually look more yellow in close up pics but more green in a more distant picture. |

I copied this post I left on a thread hoping someone here can help me...I would like to know what coat U all think they have so I know how to care for them right..Okay, I've posted photo of all my babies on dogster.com and I would like U all go look @ all my dolls! I'm so very proud of every single one of them! But my question is...Does Teddy have a wirey or curly coat? And doesn't Tiffanie have a Silky coat? Or have I got them messed up? I think if Teddy's coat was to grow long to the floor it would be wavy and I think if Tiffanie's grew to the floor it would be straight. It does take Tiffanie's coat longer to grow then Teddy's...His is grown back out in about a month...I just trimmed him last month and I haven't trimmed Tiffanies since April...(Did her ears & bottom & feet). Which Coat would be for the AKC Shows??? Silky, Wirey or Curly when all growed out? Can U tell me what U all think? Oh & go look @ the babies too there! They are so sweet and cute...If U have time go read the notes I've added for them each! I love them all! It will be hard to see them leave if I ever do sell them! LOL! I haven't even tried to yet and they will be 11 weeks Thur. Isn't that bad???
