My worst fear happened today Tia is only 2 lbs and 6 months. I have found it a real challenge having such a small yorkie, I didn't think I would worry as much. My biggest fear is that someone would step on her and tonight it happened. My DH came home with pizza and was carrying the box downstairs. Both Bailey and Tia ran up the stairs to say hi to daddy when his foot came down squarely on Tia' back. She cried out and ran down the stairs and then just stopped. I picked her up and she was shaking like a leaf. I watched to make sure she didn't go into shock. She stopped shaking after about 10 minutes. I have watched her all evening and she won't walk on her left leg. Actually, she doesn't seen to want to walk at all. My DH denies there is anything wrong with her and says she "playing me". I know he is just in denial and will be really devastated if there is something wrong. I'm going to give her the night and see how she is in the morning. She will let me touch her back and both of the legs. How do you tell it there is a break. Would she let me touch her leg and bend it? I just hope that she is okay |
Im so sorry that happened to your baby.accidents do happen, But please have her checked if she acts if some thing is wrong, Not to scare you but that happened to my very first Yorkie and the people that I got her from didnt tell me and it damaged all the nerves in her back. |
That is one of my worst fears also. I hope she will be OK. Keep us posted. |
I'm so sorry for you! Poor little Tia. Is she licking her leg or any part of her back end? How is Bailey acting towards her? Is he sniffing any her leg or back? Try putting her down and walking a few steps away and calling her or offering her a favorite treat. Then you could see if she's limping. Please keep us posted on her condition. Prayers coming your way. :hands: Also remember to keep her warm and watch for hypoglycemia since stress can cause this. Is she peeing normally? |
How is Tia acting now? I will keep her in my prayers, I hope shes ok. |
Oh gosh I just hate hearing things like this. Your poor little baby :( These little ones are just so tiny and you have to be EXTRA careful around them :( But I know it was just an accident and unfortunately they do happen. I would see how she is tomorrow and if she is acting funny (or won't walk, or even limps) AT ALL - I would take her straight to the vet. Please do not hesitate in taking her if she is acting like it hurts her to walk, or if she is limping...there could be a real problem there. Hopefully there isn't, but it's better to be safe than sorry. And as kaymo asked, is she licking it at all?? I am saying a Prayer for your little one :( Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |
I'm so sorry for you and Tia! I hope and pray she will be okay! How is she doing now? I will pray that she is okay and keep us updated! Maddie and I send kisses and well wishes to little Tia! |
When a dog has a broken leg it is like a human. If you pick them up the good leg will pull up the broken one will just dangle. I had a sheltie one time that jumped off of a step and her leg rather than just limping when she ran it was limp and lifeless. I have had a lot of near misses and close calls but a tru break will always seem like more you usually will know. Not that it hurts any less though, They hurt like a bugger. Bonnie |
Poor Tia. I hope she is just fine, but if you are concerned, definitely take her in and have her checked. Please keep us posted. Sending positive thoughts your way! |
I am soooo sorry, I am praying for her right now. Please keep us posted. |
Poor little thing hope she is feeling better today. |
I hope your little one will be ok, Leslie. Please let us know how she's doing today. Sometimes they can be bruised by our big feet and it takes awhile to heal, so I'm hoping it's nothing serious! |
Hi! This is my first post in the forum and it's great to share and compair experiences... I'm sorry for Tia... I hope it's nothing serious and she'll be fine soon, but nevertheless, if I were you I would take her to a Vet and see what's really happenig to cause such pain... Maggie and I are praying for her.... |
accident Hi...I hope your baby is doing well...she needs a vet check to ease your fears..stepping on her back can break a rib or cause lung, liver damage...best wishes... |
Poor baby...I hope she's feeling better today. LOTS of KISSES from Princess Britt :animal36 |
Oh my . . . .how is Tia this morning???? Hope she is back to her normal self. Lots of warm huggs to you and Tia. |
She seems much better Hi Everyone. Thank you all for your prayers, kind words and wishes. Tia had a good sleep last night and seemed to be okay this morning. She wasn't favoring her leg and walked well. What a horrible lesson to learn for our whole family but we know now to make sure we really watch where we are stepping! I'll keep my eye on her for the rest of the day. Thanks again everyone :thumbs up |
A little cat bell on her harness would let everyone know when she's right by there feet. |
Oh You Are Lucky. I Accidentlly Stepped On One Of My Pups And It Caused Brain Damage, And She Died At The Vet's, It Was Awful. I Don't Ever Want That To Happen Again. I Would Get A Bell Too. Especially On The Little Tinies. I Am Glad She Is Ok. |
I am so happy to hear this update! Doesn't it just make you INSTANTLY sick:( . Thank God she seems alright today. Still, keep a close eye on her for any signs of trouble. |
so sorry that this happened, but glad she is doing better. Are you going to take her to the vet just for a check? |
I am also so glad to hear this update! Thank goodness she's doing okay! |
I am so sorry for Tia. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers to be okay!! |
Good, Leslie! So far, so good. Let us know how she continues to do. Well, I hope...:) |
poor tia Im so glad to hear that Tia is better and doing well. WE ALL NEED TO LEARN THE YORKIE SHUFFLE!!!! Shuffle your feet when your in the house, and that way you cant step on little yorkies they just get pushed by your foot. Works well for us... |

I'm so happy that she's better. Have you taken her to the vet just to be sure that everything is fine ? |
Glad all turned out well! With two tiny babies and a houseful of clumsy (human!) males, I opted to keep mine in breakaway collars with jingly tags. We never have to wonder if they're around! I know that collars are a debated issue with yorkies, but these are great, and DO open on their own if too much pressure gets put on them (when the dogs are wrestling, or whatever). It's an option you might want to consider, anyway! |
I'm so sorry to hear that happened to your baby, but happy to see the good update. I know how that must feel to see that happen to your little one. My little cousin slammed the door on Chloe once and I thought I was going to die of shock just hearing her yelp while trying to squirm through the door. Its so scary to see something like that happen to ours babes. |
we ALWAYS look down when we walk around if Lillie (pup) is around...Sadie usually jumps around like a jumping bean so she is easy to see. I know accidents can happen.....If it were me I wouldn't wait to bring her to the vet...especially if she isn't walking...My daughter had a pekingese....she got run over by a fed ex truck...she only cried out once but clearly couldn't walk...she rushed her to the vets, they did x-rays and found she had a broken back...they could have sent her to an emergency center but said she MAYBE had a 50/50 chance she would ever walk again...surgery (7 yrs ago) was over 3500.00...my daughter had just started a new job and just didn't have the money..unfortunately she had to have little Iris put to sleep... |
