I have a fence but theres nothing undergroud..doesn't make a difference cause I have yet to see one one of them dig theyre way out even if they do they'll just end up in the neighbors yard. but the chicken fence idea is smart! |

Pepper has a full reign of the kitchen. For now... There are too many cables and cords in the other 3 rooms and he's a chewer. Once he's out of that puppy stage I don't mind him running around freely. Oh, and the bathroom door needs to be closed as well, he somehow flips over the bathroom rugs and bites on the rubber side... |
My little fur ball gets baby gated in the laundry room. He's not totally potty trained and he likes to chew on power cords, so it's better that way. |
My pups don't chew wires luckily but they chew almost everything that fits in they're mouth! |

I got TJ at 4 months old and Roxy at 6 months old. From day one they both were baby gated in a spare room up stairs. I had to make a cardboard wrapped in fabric border around the whole room, b/c the were eatting the walls, corners, the door, you name it, they chewed it, including poop! :eek: Slowly they were allowed more freedom when I was home, but they were always put in there room when home alone. Then they both turned 1 year old and I would leave them downstairs alone a few times if I knew I would be gone only for a short period of time! Guess what? They were sooooooooo good. They just slept on the top of the couch or looking out the window! Now they are almost 2 years old and they have to same routine when I am gone: Resting on top of the couch, sleeping or looking out the window! P.S. I block the stair case off b/c TJ can climb up, but he won't come down, so I can't have him stuck up there ;) |
lol My pup used to go upstairs and not come down too but now that pup is older so she has no problems. |
Well, my baby, Hootie, she is 5 months old but I don't trust her to roam the house bc I am not convinced she is 100% potty trained yet. And, she cannot jump on/off the couch yet, so I don't want her to get hurt while I'm gone trying to do things like that. My oldest, Hobbs, he's 1 year and fully potty trained and I fully trust him so he gets to stay out and "roam free." I do keep the bedroom and bathroom doors shut, so he really only has access to the kitchen, living area, and foyer. I will let Hootie stay out, too, when I am convinced that she is 100% potty trained and when she can jump on/off the couch and when I can trust her not to get into any trouble! :p |

When we are gone Sometimes we leave him out, other times we put him in his x pen. If we are going to be gone for an hour or more, we put him in his x pen. If we are just running to get food, going to the bank, running to the gas station, or drug store, etc....we will leave him out and he gets the house all to himself :) I don't like leaving him out for too long by himself though because he is a jumper, he jumps up on EVERYTHING and I am so afraid that he may jump and fall and break his neck and I not be there :( That is my worst fear. So...mainly, for safety reasons, I put him in his x pen if we are going to be gone for a long period of time ;) |
Dezi gets to use the Kitchen area (has a small family room area) and her bedrrom upstairs. Living room (she will chew on the wires) and bedrooms are off limit when I am not hope. She spends most of the day in the family room area, we have a bay window and I put pillows for her and lays there all day. |
In the morning I put Howie in his crate to go back to sleep. When I come home to feed him at lunch I put him in his xpen for the rest of the day so he can romp around a little. If I'm running out to the store for just a few minutes I'll let him stay gated in the living room. Any longer than that and I don't know what he'd get into! |
I just started 2 weeks ago giving Cali free run of the house. I started with 1/2 hour periods and now I have left her 5 hours one day and she was fine. SHe is 15 months old |
If I leave the chairs out near the table they climb up and eat my lunch:eek: if I leave them in the bathroom they go through the trash..if I leave them in the bedroom they sleep on my clothes.. If I leave them in the living room they chew on the sofa pillows. so they're just stuck in the hallway for now till I find something better...where do you get an x-pen? pet shop? |
