For those who purchased from the internet... Well, as most of you know, I plan on getting a yorkie soon. I have researched for breeders in my area, but they are all WAY out of my price range. So, I decided I am going to get a yorkie over the internet and just pay for the shipping (on a airline). My question is.... can all of you who have got a yorkie from the internet please tell me who you purchased the dog from? I am very worried about getting mixed up with a backyard breeder and getting a sick puppy. So, I would really appreciate it if you guys could share with me who you guys purchased your yorkie from, that way I know their not going to send me something unexpected. The most I am willing on paying is $900... shipping and everything included. So.. if you got your yorkie from a breeder online, and had a good experience, and recieved a healthy puppy, please let me know a website... or something... I trust you guys, so, that's why I am asking! lol Thanks so, so much! |
I personally would not buy from the internet. There was a chat here about how one lady took a lot of people who payed for a puppy and just got the run around and never received one at all. Search the chats here and read about it. If you can possible look at the puppy and see where it is coming from, you will be a lot better off. Call your vets and see if they can direct you to a breeder. That's where I would start! Good Luck1 Pat |
Yorkie's on the Internet I bought a male Yorkie, almost a year ago. Her name is Carol Voytovich @ Yorkiebabies.com. As a matter of fact he is still on her website "Sir Arthur" for $2,950.00. Don't be alarmed by the prices, once you speak to her or any Breeder for that matter as long as you are precise in what you are looking for? Pet Quality, Breeding Quality or Show Quality? What specific traits are you looking for? Male or Female, I personally prefer a male for a woman and a female for a man? To begin with I think the Internet is more expensive! Based on my personal experience I just got Lucky, but it could be very risky! Your best bet is to meet the Breeder in person? But definitly do a lot of research! Good Luck! |
I got Tucker from www.specialpaws.com the prices range from like $600 - $2000, but don't be discouraged. Carolyn (the breeder) was excellent to work with and was willing to meet my needs. She was very knowledgable (and still is!). She answered all of my questions and available night and day if I have questions or problems. My experience was great. Good luck wherever you end up! |
1 Attachment(s) I didn't purchase my yorkie from the internet but my breeder does ship. It's seasideyorkies.com. We paid $900 for Esme. If you do decide to call them, ask for Monique. |
I think most breeders sell over the internet now. Most of the best ones have a website to educate people about the breed and their dogs in particular. In this information age I would almost be leary of a breeder without an internet presence because they could be "fly by night" with no way to contact them after you buy. A nice website tells you alot about a breeder in my opinion. A way to protect yourself if you send money ahead is to do a "puppy escrow". A disinterested third party holds the funds until the puppy has arrived, is vet checked and okay. It is always best to meet the breeder in person, but if you can't then their are definitely ways to have a successful transaction long distance. I would spend a lot of time on the telephone and by email getting to know the breeder and her philosphies on the breed. I would ask to speak to her vet and several other references. You should be able to tell from what they say about the breeder what she is really like. The vet is an especially good resource if they have had a long relationship with the breeder. I would ask for the puppies pedigree and pictures of the parents ahead of time. If they aren't pedigreed this is not a big deal if you are looking for an inexpensive pet yorkie. Health and temperament would be primary concerns so I would ask about the temperament of the parents. You can tell if the breeder goes on and on with stories about the parents that they are well loved and cared for. If they just say, "well, he is even tempered" and notheing else, something is probably wrong. Try Ruthie Freeman at www.pet-puppystork.com. My puppy was expensive because I had specific criteria I was looking for but she has some less expensive ones occasionally I think. Good luck! |
pup Puppy escrow..that is new to me. I don't know what this says about me, but if a buyer said they were sending the money to a third party and after the vet check, the tranaction was finalized... I would say, I don't think so. They could drop the pup on it's head from my house to the vets office..a dozen things could happen..and people lie and try to make it the breeders fault. My pup would be vet checked, guaranteed for a year, you would have talked to my vet and met me..I sure hope by then we trust each other! LOL |
I do not buy from the internet cuase I dont think in shipping dogs and dont think that breeders on the computer arent really breeders. But they are many nice breeders that are really breeders who take good care of dogs on the internet that can assist you well!:) |
Please don't buy off the net. While there are great breeders out there that do have websites there are more that are mill type situations and may not be breeding the quality you are searching for. Don't forget there are a few breeders on this forum that may have pups. Doesn't hurt to ask. |
Yeah, I would feel comfortable purchasing from a breeder on this site, but it seems most of them are out of my price range. The only thing I am looking for is a female, purebreed yorkie puppy, healthy, and loving. I am NOT interested in breeding what so ever. |
before you try the internet, search the web for papers in other cities in your area and check thier online classifieds. we have been going to breeders about an hour or so away but there is a wider selection and also a wider range of prices. just go to yahoo or google and search the name of a local city and then type newpaper....good luck! i know what it is like to keep searching and searching...and searching! |
I guess I don't know what "buying off the net" means? Surely there is no one out there who places an order on the internet and never talks to the broker or the breeder. Most breeders are on the internet so I don't know if you are saying "only buy from a breeder you meet in person" or "only buy from a breeder locally" or what? If this is the case, maybe someone of this opinion should say "I won't buy from a breeder I haven't met in person". "Don't buy off the internet" is too general in my opinion. The puppy escrow only works when there is a contract spelling out all of the terms (3 day guarantee, 1 yr guarantee, genetic defects only, "as is", etc) and a trust already established between the breeder and the new owner, but it is a great solution to avoid the scam artists who demand a money order or a wire transfer and then never deliver the puppy. I have only heard stories of this happening but never experienced it myself. Yes, as YorkieRose said after having the puppy vet checked, talking to the vet, etc., you "would hope you could trust each other by then", but as she also said, "people lie and try to make it the breeder's fault" so trust does not always exist. The escrow holder could accompany the new owner to the airport to pick up the puppy and be a witness to what transpires between there and the vets office. Hopefully, the puppy checks out and doesn't get dropped on it's head. You could even use a local breeder as the escrow officer and they could charge a small fee for their time. I think it's a creative solution to a potential problem. |
If you find a puppy in the Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio area, let me know. I take regular trips to the Pheonix area and would be willing to fly with the puppy if needed. I know that there are some wonderful breeders on this site. I think one of them just posted today. I think her Kennel is called Stellar not sure will try to find the link. Kelly |
HEY! I think you're onto something there!! For members who are considering a puppy in another area of the country from where they live, they could possibly enlist the help of a member who lives in that area to go check out the breeder for them!! I would be willing to do that!! I can always use an excuse to go look at puppies!! What does everyone think? |
Yeah, that is a good idea reconsmomma... I agree... it would be nice to have someone look at the puppie and the breeder for me.... It's just been SO hard trying to find one around here that doesn't cost $2000 or up! I mean.. I literally live out in BFE! And even though I do live VERY close to the CA border, I really don't think I could find someone in CA selling a yorkie for $800 or less.... but anyone knows a breeder in CA, and in that price range... LET ME KNOW! LOL |
It's stellaryorkies.com and she sells with limiteds so yo could probably get a good price. I got mine from a breeder in TX plese IM and i will give you their address. |
My Mia also came from Monique at Seaside Yorkies and I'm on countdown for finding another from her after my travels are done in June/July. |

Newbie here....I purchased Oliver over the internet. I wasn't going to at first, but the breeder was very informative and answered all my questions so I took a chance. She was from the Minn. area. I'm glad I went with her then the breeders here in my state. He was $800 plus shipping, but I met half-way. I don't have her website or number off hand but if you want I could find it. If I was to get another yorkie I would go back and get one from her. |
Hello I am new to the group. I have purchased dogs online, shipped to and from and it is a fairly simple process. I currently have an AKC male Yorkie puppy for sell for 900 INCLUDING shipping and I have the puppy checked out by the vet, comes with yr guarantee, and puppy is checked by vet before flying. I think most people do business online now days. Its easier to find what youre looking for online but always make sure you are dealing with a respectable person. I do not mind people visiting my home any time, my dogs are not caged or kenneled. They are raised in my home with love and attention. My dogs are my children and treated as such. I think you can experience good and bad when dealing online. Be careful and very very picky. Thanks, Kim :) :aimeeyork :animal-sm :dog: here is a couple pictures of Apollo http://pics.hoobly.com/full/d716599d...eed1114a75.jpg http://pics.hoobly.com/full/ad054b60...59affdb02d.jpg |
socalyorkielover, I think that is an awesome idea you came with. I know I would feel better knowing someone from here could personally check out an out of state breeder. |
I would WELCOME someone to my home to check out my babies. I would send pictures, emails from satisfied customers, vet refrenences and even give year guarantees on pups. That is a great idea. |
Yes Tifferdink, I would love to know your breeders name, website, number etc. Apollo, I seen the other post you left about the male yorkie your selling, and on the other post you stated that you were selling him for $500 + $260 shipping.... and now it's $900 including shipping? You also stated that you were leaving for vacation and that's why you were in such a rush to sell the puppy? |

I SO Agree with Luvmypupster ! Being on the net does NOT make a breeder a good breeder - references & good experiences from others are their best advertisement - So many people who put their trust in someone they meet on the net are shattered by losing both their money AND have no dog to show - or a different puppy is shipped ...If you truly trust a internet site - and know for sure you will get what you paid for - and did your research - then good luck to you...but I for one would be very very wary of these sites and think long and hard before trusting someone with such an important decision... escrow ?? that's a new one - I would think you could lose your money pretty easily with that also - There are so many good breeders.... but there are probably more bad ones on the net...it's just too big ...When you're talking about these amounts of money PLUS the love you are looking forward to - it's so much better to take your time and be VERY careful who you want to do business with - After hearing all the different "Opinions" on this thread ..If someone needs advise on looking for a new puppy - the people I would talk to first are the people who have been around yorkies for YEARS and know the ins and outs of purchasing .... I would go with the pros and ask them questions.... |
I did a quick search and found this...I dont know where in AZ you are, or what your local newspaper is, but check that website's classifieds online http://www.azcentral.com/class/petplace/ be sure to really check out sellers before buying |
Im not a breeder and personally I have had no bad experiences buying things online. I have not bought a pet or animal online though. I have been looking at a cockatoo but nothing serious yet. I have bought items online be it ebay, or websites etc. I have not had any bad experiences so far KNOCK ON WOOD. Yes I had started out asking 900 with shipping included which shipping runs 260.00 and the 6 hour total trip to and from the Airport would use over $50.00 in gas so that is still very little for this lil guy. I JUST bought him for 800.00 so why are people so down on me for asking only 500 for him now? I just want a GREAT home for him. I bought him and his sister and I spent a GREAT deal of money but I bought from a lady in my area, coup;e hours from me. I did not buy them online and I did not pay 500 for them that is for sure. I spent 1800 TOTAL for the 2. I AM leaving for vacation so what is wrong with not wanting to board the little guy? I dont have any family in my area and we just moved here for my husband work so I dont have anybody I trust to pet sit for me. He needs to find a home because he is at the age where he is bonding and if we dont find him a home soon Im afraid we will get too attached and wont let him go. I understand people being cautious about buying online but as long as the person you buy from is safe, upfront, can prove they actually HAVE what they are selling and everything is on the up and up it shouldnt be a problem. I have a web cam and can let people see Apollo. I have heard stories about people selling dogs they didnt even have. I seen ads where a lady was selling Yorkies for 2000.00 and come to find out she didnt have any dogs and stole a picture from another ad of someone else Yorkies. I find that appauling and low and dirty. I HAVE these 2 right here at my feet sleeping. I can provide the vet info where they got their shot and wormings, I can show on web cam, I am who I say I am and Im not out to scam anyone. Like I said at 500.00 Im taking a 300 dolelr loss in less than a week but money isnt the issue, a great home is. Yes it would be ideal to be able to get my money, or some of it back that I just spent. 2 dogs is too much for me I am disable and have 3 young children. I bought 2 on impulse and I should have thought about how much more time, energy and love a second puppy would be. I didnt think it through clearly and I urge anyone wanting to buy a second dog to do the same. The internet can be a safe place if you make it safe. You can get taken very easily but most people arent that naive and they do their research etc. I wouldnt spend 20.00 dolelrs online if I didnt do my research and make sure Im getting what I paid for. In my situation, Im not a breeder, I dont have several puppies here so no way you can get the wrong puppy. I have a male and a female and I think its pretty easy to tell the difference in them lol I dont have anything else. |
I know when we talk about buing online - mostly what comes to my mind are the sites with multiple listings - totally gorgeous puppies and an eyecatching site - sometimes it's just a pretty package and nothing more....it's sad that there are so many scammers out there - In the almost 2-1/2 years I've been reading and posting on yorkie forums the sad stories about purchasing puppies generally are the ones involving purchases off the net.... from a breeder that wasn't researched thoroughly. If one does their research, gets references and talks to others who have had good experiences with a particular breeder - they have a good chance of having a happy experience - USMARINEWIFE - Good luck in your puppy search !! Apollo - good luck with your baby boy - |
:) I looked for about a month for a female and finally found one that I liked and that was not $3000. It is amazing how much some of these sell for. Anyway, I found her on the internet PuppyFind. I talked to the seller sooooo many times, I was afraid she would think I was a stalker. She sent lots of pictures of the litter, and mom and dad. As time came for her to be shipped I do not know who was more nervous, me or her. She called me 4 times the day Cheyenne was shipped and I called her twice. She has called me every week since we got her just to make sure everything is going good. She made me a CD of Cheyenne from the day she was born to the day she left. Since we did not get to see her until she was 18 weeks old, I thought that was great!!!!! She also sent me a "care package" with a diaper bag, 3 baby blankets, stuffed lamb toy, 3 other toys, snack food, all her papers, her pedigree, and chew bones. She also had her micro chipped. I had to promise her I would send pictures every XMass and on Cheyenne's birthday every year. She will not sell any of her babies until they are over 12 weeks. I saw one breeder who was selling a litter and they were only 6 weeks, this is just way to early for yorkies. This breeder is in Washington. If you are interested email me at cps4612@sbcglobal.net and I will give you the information on contacting her. |
Now THAT is a great story about a caring breeder ...Wish we heard more like that one !! She really does sound like a great breeder - congratulations ! |
