Oh nevermind! I see you are in Spain! Most of us here in America think the puppies should stay with the mother longer. |
Yes,I know that now;) I started on American yorkie forums shortly after I got Lady over a year ago.American breeders do alot of things differently and I find it interesting to read about how this sort of thing in other countries works:) Here puppies are weaned at about 4 weeks old and I know that in America they wait longer,also we arent encouraged to spay or neuter so finding a vet that will do it just because is also quite difficult here espcially if the dog is very small..alot of things change.I had to search high and low to get Lady spayed because her size seemed to be a problem and I couldent find a vet that wanted to do it..they all wondered why on earth I wanted to spay her. |
We have a condo in Mexico and the Mexican people feel the same way about neutering! The stray population is a big problem there. I learned my lesson about rescuing strays after I got ringworm from one and then he decided he wanted to go back to the streets anyway! LOL I still see hijm sojmetimes and he still comes up to say hello! LOL |
I think the reason most reputable breeders don't allow puppies to leave earlier than 12 weeks is that there are significant health issues that young, immature yorkies have that only an experienced breeder is capable of handling when they occur. Yorkies are still so fragile even at 12 weeks and they need constant 24/7 care. I can't imagine getting my babies before they were even eating solid food. Of course, it's less expensive for the breeder the shorter time they have the puppies and have to care and feed them, but the socialization aspects are so important too. I make the analogy of being sent to a boarding school as an elementary school age child. You are away from your mother and your siblings and you don't really learn the things your mother is supposed to teach you. Having a puppy with it's mother and littter mates during those early weeks is crucial to proper socialization in my opinion. Sometimes mothers die in child birth, or abandon their babies, and there is sometimes only one in a litter, so there are different circumstances that occur where taking the puppy away early is unavoidable. |
I got Gucci when she was 12 weeks old. At first I used the doggy wipes to clean her. I gave her her first bath when she was almost 4 months but i was so scare I dry her very quickly. |
I have bathed her and I quickly blow dry her completely, You never know what is right! |
Kim,if you read my last post I said that if breeders here were having problems with letting their pups go at 7 weeks,they would have stopped doing it a long time ago.There have been no complaints so obviosly they carry on doing it.I dont know why getting them rid of them early is cheaper..by the time the pups leave at 7 weeks old they have had reglular check ups,2 sets of shots and their chip inplanted,so already the breeder has spent over 100€ (over $100) on these pups.They come with health garantees,pedigree papers,a bag of kibble and some vitamins so its not as if they are throwing them out and piling in the money..yorkies here are very cheap so they dont make breeders rich and Im still in touch with the breeders of Lady and Jess,they love seeing them in pictures and hearing news about them.Each country works differently and if what they are doing works for everybody and the pups are healthy and happy then why is it wrong?;) |
I just got mine he is almost 9 weeks old and I use those wipes too because it is kinda cold out to be giving him a bath. |
