HELP! Yorkie got spayed and now throwing up alot! Hi everyone, my baby girl Pia was spayed yesterday. Now she is home and can't seem to keep her food down. She has thrown everything back up and now she won't eat anything. I'm not sure if they sometimes get this way but I don't remember my Trixie ever throwing up. Pia is 1 yr. 6 mths old. Maybe little older ones take it harder??? Just a thought. She's only 1 lb. 10 oz. and this is making me even more nervous. I don't know if I should take her to the vet immediately or give it a little time. Being so little I feel like I don't have the time to wait. I appreciate any thoughts on this. Thank you :aimeeyork |
Why don't you call the vet to see if they should see her. |

I agree - call your vet. Maybe because of her size, the anesthesia affected her differently than it did your other one but - play it safe and call. If nothing else, you'll feel better hearing from them on what you need to do, if this is "normal" (because of her size) or if you need to get her back in. Please keep us posted! Suzi |
Well then relax mom hope she gets to feeling better soon poor little thing. |
Thank you! |
Poor baby. I would keep in contact with your Vet and just keep an eye on her |
oh the poor little girl....I agree with everyone...speak to the vet...I hope she's feeling better soon |
Hope she's better, I would keep a close watch on her and take her in if not better real soon. She is so tiny and I wouldn't want to take any chances. Keep us posted |
Anethesia will make them very nauseous. Thats why they ask you not to give food or water after 10 pm the night before surgery. Just make sure she stays hydrated, you can give her some pedialyte with a syringe if she won't drink it. Keep in contact with your vet, and I'm sure she will get past it soon. I know when I was put to sleep to have minor surgery once, I was violently sick for two days post surgery. Ugggg, I'll never forget THAT. Hope your girl recovers soon. Best wishes! |
Oh no, please keep us posted. I will be praying for her! |
How is your baby doing? I'm sure it is just a reaction to the anesthesia, but the vet can prescribe something for nausea. Her weight is the main reason I would be concerned. Did they do the preop blood tests showing all was healthy with her liver? |
Hi everyone and thanks for all the nice comments. A few of you asked a few questions so here I go. She didn't eat after 9pm and yes she had the blood work before the surgery. A little while ago the diarrhea started and that was enough for me. I just got back from the vet about an hour ago. She was given a shot for her dehydration and also something to stop the diarrhea. They also gave me some medicine. The vet said to keep an eye on her but when the dirhhea began I just took her right in and didn't even call. When their not even 2 lbs. no need to wait and end up being sorry. Poor little P.P. (short for Princess Pia) is just miserable. Hope all the stuff helps or I'll be back in there tomorrow. Thanks again for all the nice comments. I'll keep you posted. :aimeeyork |

PLEASE Pray for Pia Hi everyone! Its about 2 am and I know all of you are about the only ones that can understand my pain right now. For those who don't know Pia got spayed yesterday and then today started to throw up and then diarrhea. I took her to the vet and they gave her a shot and some meds. I assumed she would be fine but around 9 pm she was unresponsive. We rushed her to an emergency animal hospital and she had gone into shock. Her body temp was 90 and they could not get a blood pressure or sugar level read at all from her. She was immediately put into one of those oxygen machines and tons of other stuff. This was at 9pm and by 11 she was starting to put her head up a little. We were told to leave and come back at 7am. When we left there (just 30 min ago, so about 1:30 am) she actually licked me. She isn't out of the woods yet and I ask all of you to please pray for her. If she does pull through she may have organ damage and some other problems. I can only hope and pray for the best right now. Her body temp was 97 when I left (7 degrees higher, so thank goodness, she's getting there) Sure most of you know this but 105 is the norm for them. I'm just beside myself and didnt know who else to turn to. I live in MD with my fiance and our family is back home in the Pittsburgh area. Its so hard just being us out here, especially in times like this. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated when I can. The vet that did the surgery is a complete idiot. The woman at the emergency place told me Pia should have been on an IV and wathed by them for a day. Never ever left to go home with me the same day. Regardless I cant even be mad right now. I just want my baby to recover. Thanks for all of you who have listened to me. :aimeeyork |

I just found your thread, and I am so sorry to read this. This is so hard on everyone, and I am sending lots of prayers your way. I hope tonight goes fast for you, and please keep us posted. Thinking of you, Kate |
My baby girl Pia Thank you for the kind words. I'm calling to check on her at 3 (just 10 more min) The waiting is just terrible. I'm trying to convince myself she has made it through the hard part and just has to keep fighting. Only can hope her organs are still good. I'm just amazed that this did not have to happen to her if the vet would have had an IV put on her when I went back in at 5. Just blows my mind. I'm scared to death now and will worry even more on who to trust. The woman that is watching her now is who I plan to start taking all of my dogs to. I wish I knew about her before. Thank goodness for this emergency place. Please keep praying and thank you all so very much. If any of you wanna see more pics of Pia and my other two babies please visit their site. www.sweetpuppylove.zoomshare.com My furbabies make me a better person!!:aimeeyork |
ooh poor baby, i hope she is feeling better this morning ! |
Oh I'm so sorry I hope she is feeling better today and my prayers are with you. |
Poor little Pia Hi everyone! Just wanted to keep you all updated. We saw Pia this morning and she is now at a good vet (cross fingers) She seems much better but we still won't know if her organs have been damaged until blood tests are run. The vet doesn't feel she is strong enough to perform the blood work yet. I was told to call at 4:30 to chek on her. It seems she is more then likely staying the night at the emergency place again. (better safe then sorry) I still can't believe this is all happening to her. Things are so up in the air right now. Thanks again to all the kind comments. I really do appreciate them. :animal36 |
I'm so sorry to hear that this happend and am glad that she's doing better. Do you know why all of this happened? We're taking Angel in on Monday to have her spayed and would like to take all the precautions necessary. |
Prayers for Pia I just read through this thread and I am so sorry to hear of all your little Pia is going through. I will remember you in my prayers. She is such a tiny little thing and looks like a real sweetheart. You will be on my mind and thank you for all the updates as I know there are many of us on YT that are pulling for you and Pia and anxious to hear how she is doing. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
She's a little fighter!!! Hi everyone and thanks again for the nice comments. Pia still didn't come home. Last night we picked her up from the vet and took her to the emergency hospital. The vet had us do this so she could be watched closely all night. This morning I picked her up from there and then she went back to the vet. Her blood results came back good and the organs are not damaged. :D She may be tiny but she's a fighter!! She wasn't ready to leave her mommy yet :p This evening she is coming home as long as her sugar remains steady. They've been gradually lowering the dose since last night. Have to hope and pray that its ok now. She is coming home with the catheter still in her neck but without the bag. The vet said he didn't want to remove it incase she needed the sugar water again. All her veins are collapsed at this point and the trachea is all they have to work with. He doesn't want her to go through additonal pain, so he's leaving it in to be extra cautious. If she does good tonight then tomorrow morning he's removing it. I still cant believe this all happen. Thank you all for being so supportive. |
I missed this. I am so happy Pia is a fighter. It sounds like she'll be alright. I'll keep her in my prayers. I know what you have been though, hang in there. Jessica |
