So we got him this crate. I got XL and it is like his own little room. He totally has room to move around in there. It fold down and can fit anywhere if we want it out of site. He hasn't chewed on it at all either.

I bought Baby a huge crate like that too! I figured, more room to move around. And my cousin's wife laughed at me. BRAT! :thumbdown

Oh, and no, I wouldn't leave a Yorkie outside all day. For various reasons...heat, cold, rain, ticks, birds, getting stolen, going under the fence...need I say more. ;)

And today's pets just aren't up to withstanding the elements these days. Especally the little ones! I wouldn't even leave Adie in the back yard alone for a couple of minutes let alone the whole day. She is simply too small and vulnerable. I am fortunate in that my husband is home all day and Adie is well cared for but if we are both gone then Adie will go visit a friend for the day.

Leaving your baby in the backyard

I personally wouldn't risk it. I don't know where you are located, but here in South, TX it is WAY too hot to leave my baby outside. And even though we have a fenced backyard, you never know what is going to get back there and possibly get your baby :( Last night there was a huge POSSUM!!!! Thankfully, my other dog was out there and killed it (she is a bigger dog), but that thing was WAY bigger than Stedman and it could have gotten him if my other dog hadn't of gotten IT FIRST :( Stedman has an x pen that we put him in any time we have to leave him. If I were you, I would do the same...however, I can understand you not wanting to leave him enclosed in a little pen for hours during the day. Sooo, if I were you, I'd get a baby gate and either put your put in the bathroom with the baby gate blocking it off so that he can't get out, or maybe in the hall or kitchen closed off so that he can't roam the rest of the house. well right or wrong thats how it has to be for now.....i didnt go into the reasons why i dont let my baby outside but since you all think i am such a *bad* yorkie mommy and that i deprive my baby or the great outdoors i will tell you all the reasoning behind me not wanting him outside.....first off we live in a trailer park and we have almost no yard we are not allowed to put fences up so there is no telling what animal with what sicknesses have been in my yard so he dont go into the yard at all never and never will......and when we are in the truck (semi) i dont let him on the ground there either because we are in many cities on a daily basis and most of the places we can get the truck into i dont like walking on the ground myself because alot of the drivers unlike my hubby dont have the respect to go to the restroom to pee the just do it right on the ground and i am seriouse about this you can get out and smell it in the air so there is NOWAY my baby will talk a walk on that no matter how much he might enjoy it.....we dont wear our shoes past the gear shift ourself because of this our shoes never touch anything other than the floor mats and i dont let him in the front floorboards due to this issue so its not just outside.......he is up to date on all shots thats not the problem......and one more reason i had a cat that had ringworm years ago and me and our daughter got totaly ate up in it also so i guess i am scared of that also because it comes from dirt and it is very very hard to getrid of once you or your pet gets it.......the reason goes way beyond me just not wanting him outside its not that at all....we will be moving sometime this year to a house and we will have a good side yard so then i will be able to put a fence up and keep other animals out and make it safe for my baby........i will have to admit this thread really hurt my feelings because it seemed like i was being jumped for loving my baby to much and wanting to protect him.......and you all were harder on me than the poor girl wanting to just leave her yorkie outside all day by its self now to me that is depriving your yorkie sorry to offend the original poster but thats how i feel..........and to be honest i really didnt want to post here after this because it seems to me like no matter what i do i am in the wrong.......anyway i just wanted to let everyone know the reasons i had for depriving my baby and the funny thing to me is i never thought i was depriving my baby of anything he is very well takencare of and very spoiled i dont post alot on that but most of you all would freak out if you knew just how spolied my baby is and its not just me my hubby and my two daughters spoil him as well... most men dont even like yorkies but my hubby is worse to spoil Bo than i am he eats with him and after him off the same fork/spoon and if Bo cant have what my hubby is eating he will not eat it infront of him he has even went as far as to stop eating if i told him not to give it to the dog and thats true lol , one time he was eating something i cant remember what but i said dont give Bo any and he just nicely got up and put his plate up and told me if he cant have it i will not eat it infront of him and believe it or not he didnt eat it.......Bo has more toys than my kids have to be honest with you and as far as food he has only the best i have to drive an hour to get it for him but i dont just settle for anything i want him to have the best......he is also on a daily vitiman as well as fish oil and flaxseed oil.....he has only the best shampoos and conditioners for his hair matter of fact i was laughing with a friend of mine the other day that i spend way more on his hair than i do my own and thats the truth lol i spend 13$ a bottle on his shampoo and 12$ a bottle for his conditioner and he also gets cowboy magic which is 14$ and he also has mink oil for his hair which is i think 18$....i am telling you he is ver well takencare of and very very spoiled.....i am very sensitive when it comes to my baby or my kids because i love all three of them with all my heart and would do anything to make them happy and give them a good life....i would never deprive my baby Bo for nothing in the world or mistreat him in anyway so i guess thats why this really struck a nerve with me.

Hi hun, You totally dont have to defend yourself to me. Im very protective of mine too....I am sure that your baby is VERY happy! Everyone has a differant way of doing things and the important thing that everyone has to remember is that we LOVE our babies as WE see fit. You are in NO Way harming your baby because you are protective and spoiling it. I think you are a great mommy! In fact, when I die I want to come back and be YOUR Yorkie! lol....

lol i would gladly take you right in and spoil you to lol....i would even hand feed you lol............but it is nice to see some nice words thanks alot for that and you are right we are all different and like i said b4 just because we are all different dont mean anyone is any right or wrong than the other it just means we have different ways of loving our babies. and as far as i can see it thats a good thing you know.....*hugs* and thanks agian

leaving yorkie outside

it all depends on what is outside. I have left mine in the corridor leading to the pool but I set up a kiddie fence in case they would fall in, and the pool is screened. I only leave them for a couple of hours while I go shoping. When it is longer I leave them in the kitchen with a child's gate so they don't go inside the house. They mess it up (you know how) but I don't mind and I don't worry. If is the back yard, please DON'T, one of mine several years ago got poisoned by a frog!

I remember a thread where the mom told us how she fed her yorkie from a fork on top of the table. We all begged for a video. :D Who was that?? Who remembers? So I don't think you'll catch too much flak for over-spoiling. You won't be the first! I think it's great that you take your yorkie with you in the truck. How I wish I could take mine to work. Shoot - he's seeing a lot more of the world than I am! And when you get your nice yard, he'll have a great time outdoors. Maybe you can find a nice park in the meantime. There are many schools of thought (and most of them represented here in YT). Many elderly peoples' dogs never go outside and seldom see anyone but their own people. So in my opinion, I think the important thing is that he's being socialized. And meeting people while trucking is doing just that. :thumbup:

Edit: Well, just realized this post is over a year old! Isn't that one of the YT rules not to break!! Aarrggh, it's not even late. Hope they've got their nice yard by now!!

I just wouldn't do that !

Just FYI - this is an old thread.

I would not personally, the heat and cold they cannot handle, people will steal from back yards, other animals could get him.
