Hello All! I just bought my new Yorkie and have fallen completely in love. He is just the best thing ever! After reading some of these posts I am just a little confused, maybe overwhelmed is a better word.

1. Do you need to place a heating pad under their blanket on their bed?
2. Do Yorkie's have their ears cropped or do they stand up as they grow? Mine don't stand straight up yet.
3. I noticed that some people on here are just getting their pups and they are a couple month old. Maxx is just 6 weeks old. Did the breeder get rid of him too quick? He plays and eats just fine but I want to take every precaution I can.

Any advice would be helpful

6 weeks :eek: That is way to young. First you need to have some nutrical on hand if you don't have none already. There is a chance that his ears will not go up. Timmy brought his ears up when he was 9 weeks old and has had them up ever since. Mimi is 5 months old and her ours are still down as you can see the pic to the left. She will have floppy ears but I love her anyway.

As far as the heating pad...I don't know...maybe someone else can help.

Welcome...this is a wonderful site....you've found the right place for all the information you'll be looking for.... I'd have to agree 6 weeks is very young to be taken away from mommy....I think most breeders wait until the pups are at least 11 weeks......as for the nutrical if you don't have it already, please make it a priority to go to the pet store and go get some, that is something very important for these little guys, especally yours is so young.

Hi and welcome. You dont have to worry about a heating pad breeders do that for new born puppies. Six weeks is really young to get a pup but i got My Chachi at 6 weeks too so I am sure he will be okay just get some nutrical. His ears are probably not standing yet because hes so young. Chachis were not standing at that age either. And then sometimes they go up and then go back down when they are teething. I would just give it some time

ok, now - what is nutrical?

It is a nutricinal suppliment with sugar in it. The sugar helps them if they have a hypoglycemic attack. you can get it at Petsmart or from your vet

1. I don't think a heating pad is really necessary - just provide him with a nice bed and some blankets to cozy into. Plus, i would worry about the cord from the heating pad - that he might chew it.

2. Some yorkies ears never go up - BUT, just because they aren't up at 6weeks doesn't mean they wont ever. Some puppies have them up early and when they start teething one or both ears will drop again - they might go back up and they might not. There are things you can do to try and help the ear stand erect - like keeping the top 1/3 of the ear hair trimmed close to the ear so that it isn't weighed down by excess hair. You can also tape them (do a search on here, I've never had to do this and I'm not sure the exact method).

3. 6 weeks generally is considered quite early to take a puppy from it's mother - 8 weeks is ideal. I didn't get my puppies until 3mths and 4mths. I don't know the size of your puppy, perhaps he is a larger puppy and the breeder just felt comfortable letting you take him earlier? Regardless, I would imagine he's less than 2lbs and having nutrical on hand is a really good idea. You can do a search on here as well for hypoglycemia and learn what the symptoms are so you'll be prepared - it could save you an emergency trip to the vet.

#1 I never used a heating pad for Georgie and he didn't get cold trust me they will snuggle close enough to you to get your body heat.

#2 They normally stand up on their own some never due and boy are they cutie pies:D

#3 6 weeks is way too young they should stay with their mother until 12 weeks. Just keep an eye on him and make sure he eats and plays etc. notice any changes take him to the vet I wouldn't wait. Not trying to make you paranoid but they are so small it's better to take precautions. Oh and nutrical they love it and it helps keep their glucose levels normal.
