We paid $900 for Roxy in Myrtle Beach. Her papers were supposed to be sent to us, but never were. But that's ok. She is healthy as a horse and was spayed 2 weeks ago. She has a sweetest personality and tries to make friends with anything that moves. That was the wisest $900 we have ever spent. She is worth far more than that. Not that I'm braggin' or anything. :D :D :D |
If you decide to go with a mix, you may want to research the other breed. Jack Russels are pretty high energy dogs that require a lot of exercise and always have to be on the move. They are a very smart dog and are also easy to train, but any of them that I have been around are always bouncing off the wall. |
I am also in NC and I paid 600.00 for mine but to me he is worth alot more!:) He is AKC registered but I had no intentions on breeding, just wanted a pet. |
YT?JT mixes. Quote:
Ya I know, they're a favorite breed of mine. and with my new electric chair I can exerise her real easly. I've got two Pap/corgi mixes currently and they're a blast. high engery and truly brillaant. my little girl Snuggles. if I drop anything small enough she'll snatch it and jump up to my lap with it. for pounce treats. Remus the boy is real good at snuggling and power ball as my kids call it. cause we can bounce the ball all over and he'll chase it til it stops. then he'll stare it at til it moves again. Both are super smart thu I'm treating everytime I take my meds and last night I forgot my 8pm meds and at 8:05 pm both were going nuts barking at the medicine chest in the bathroom where I take my meds. LOL..... I looked and sure enufff they're treats where there and so was my meds. I've got alarm dogs. LOL.... I looked this morning at thos mixes I passed. they're were not Yorkie mixes or Jacks I could see. Looked Lab and something. and the regisrty which I truly don't care about was APRI. |
Do not let anyone tell you how much is to much or to little to pay. If you pay 500 to 2.000 with a champ line or no champ line, When you see your baby you will know THATS THE ONE.. |
I agree with everyone. If you just want a companion then it does not matter how much you pay as long as they are healthy. Mine was going for $600, but we paid $550 because there were 3 friends/coworker wanting to buy one so they gave us a discount:) So far, knock on wood, she has been healthy. The breeder was not a reputable breeder, but she bought her dog from a reputable breeder. That made me comfortable buying from her knowing that her dog has good health. Some people might disagree with not buying from a reputable breeder, but she looks pretty close to the standard yorkie. |
It seems the smaller you want the more $ it's going to cost. My Mari was $2,500. WAY TOOO MUCH $$$$$$ but I was really wanting a tiny as my Ginger was 4 # and I didn't want any larger than her. I travel with my dog so the smaller the easier. Mari was not suposed to be more than 3#. After I got her home and really looking her over, I saw that her legs were too long, her tail is cropped so short that she can't hardly wag it, and she has a very cottony coat. However, she has the cutest tiny face and I love her VERY much. My husband had a fit over the $$ and the fact that she isn't 'perfect'. He wanted me to return her....I don't think so..I was in love with her the moment I touched her. I had gotten close to the breeder, and she ended up giving me my dear little Angel Baby that has cerebrial palsy and is uner 2#. Angel has done wonders since I got her and I just feel that I got 2 not so perfect dogs for the price of one. Heck no way am I perfect either. |

I am paying 1500.00 from a reputable breeder. The males go for a little bit less. |
I looked around my area and found a few for 700-800 but they didn't look like a pure yorkie, I think some where down their line they had been mixed(plus no papers). When I found Rhonda through someone on here she had the perfect little girl, and thankfully she was within 3 hrs of me in Morgantown,WV. I payed $1,400 for Lily, she was a little more because she is really small. Also the breeder was wonderful, explained all of my concerns with a small one, had akc papers(she even made Lily a birth certificate) and she had very happy, healthy dogs. The fact that I knew I was getting a healthy tiny one made it easier to pay that much. And for Lily to be as small as she is I have had no problems at all out of her(except she is as rotten as can be). I originally didn't want one as small as Lily but the breeder put me at ease about all of my concerns. The breeder was going to breed her but she was going to be too small, Lucky me!! I think is depends on where you live as to how much a Yorkie goes for. They are hard to find in my area, so when you find them to the yorkie standard you have to pay for it. I could have gone with the ones I found that were cheaper(and not to yorkie standard) but they weren't what I hard my heart set on. I knew in my mind what I was wanting and found it in Lily. A pet is in your life a long time, if they are healthy, and I personally can't put a price on that. |

I don't know what some of you guys want, a trophy to show around or a pet to love. What is the meaning of quality anyway? The most important thing is a healthy dog, but sometimes even if it comes from a champion bloodline, and from a reputable breeder it may still develop health problems. It happens with us, humans too. A baby whose parents are beatiful, very healthy and great atlethes, a who is raised in the best atmosphere, can still have health problems and be ugly. Some even if you pay 3000 for a yorkie, it doesn't mean you are going to get a better dog. I would say, you can pay $500 or $1500 and get the same dog. It's like a lottery. Still, you are better of getting it from a reputable breeder, more chances it's going to be healthy, but you don't have to pay a fortune. |
I do not completely agree, I took a seminar on the reasoning for the importance of conformation (fascinating!!), why we should aim for champion bred dogs. For example legs being too far apart, too close how it affected their sketal health as they age. They showed probelms with toplines and how they age (often probelms would be affecting the dogs lives around age 6 and gor dogs that generally live 16 years 10 years of pain in long) The seminar did say this was not gurantee that this would occur but the likelyhood was higher. Many breeders attempt to cover their costs of breeding, (health testing, equipment like incubators, etc...) A yorkie for around $500 makes me wonder. But there are many yokires that were not very much money and neve rhave a health problem. Many show breeders work hard at healthy lines and spend thousand at improving their lines...they aim to produce a great dog that is as close to the standard as possible. If we say that theis is foolish why be so picky? Well the lines of what a yorkie really is will become blurred...to a point one would wonder if the dog they are looking at is a yorkie. I don not mean to start anything...lol...but rpices vary for many reaons. I do not feel breeders should be offended if you ask why the is that price the price it is. So many facotrs play a part...smaller ones are often more expensive not only because of the higher market value but because of the extra time and effort breeders must put into them, females because most litters are male dominated and the market value, halth care, testing , lines, etc... |
