I have tried my very best to keep Buddy socialized. He has lots of friends and loves people and children but large dogs set him off unless he knows them. He is a bigger yorkie 13.5lbs and when he starts it is very hard to hang on to him and embarrassing. I just found out that my next door neighbor has 2 dogs. One is a pug and don't know about the other. I have lived there for 7 1/2 yrs and never knew she had dogs! They never leave her condo! Strange. Poor pups. |
I've taken mine everywhere since I brought her home. She has play dates, goes shopping, car rides, walks, goes to work. Heck! She doesn't even bark at kitties!:D She's well-socialized and really loves to go. I really feel sorry for those two yorkies when I think of all of the fun things they miss out on. |
Kitty is socialized. I have even taken her through obedience class which she passed with flying colors. I couldn't imagine having a dog that wasn't socialized. I do have a cocker right now that I got when she was 6mos old and she wasn't socialized as a pup so it has been a long slow road but she's makeing progress. |
I have been working w/my Yorkie for 6 years!!! He is better but was a puppy mill yorkie w/neglect & abuse according to my vet. He is a sweetheart w/my husband & I & only a couple of other people. He seems to be getting more agressive w/people (he goes after feet) . Any suggrstions would be appreciated. Our 1st yorkie was very secure & happy, we had him 13years. I would love Buddy to have a more relaxed life. |
All four of mine love people and other dogs, all are very social. The only problem I have is with my Joey. He's fine most all the time, but is very possesive with me. Now he does let the other dogs come to me, doesn't mind that, but if he's on my lap, and a person walks toward me, he growls and barks like he's going to take their hand off. He doesn't bite. I've tried breaking him of this by holding his body and telling him no, but it doesn't help. He acts like some one is going to hurt his mommy or something. Not sure what to do. |
Miss Mini is pretty social ..she loves other dogs especially little dogs , bigger ones make her nervous but she does ok just shows signs of skiddishness if thats a word haha ,We go on alot of walks near people and dogs and she is so proud of herself ..its a riot to watch she will do a drop and roll for the right people ..like rub my belly kinda stuff then jump up and strut her stuff as to say mom did ya see that they liked me !:p |
wow, socialization is very important is all living things.......I even talk to my plants.......lol |
Roxy loves everyone and every animal. She wants to play, no matter who it is. When I had RoadRunner installed, she was trying to help. When I had a new table repaired, she was trying to help. I took her to an outside craft fair and everyone that came up and asked if they could pet her loved her cause she was so happy to have the attention. She is an excellent watch dog in letting me know if there is any creature anywhere near the house, but I don't think she would hurt a fly. (Thank you Lord for giving us such a sweetie).:p |
I made the mistake of not really socializing my dogs in the past. We live in a small rural town and when we went out with them it was always to an open field and never really had them around people or other dogs, only people who came to our home. When they did encounter other people they went NUTS!! And other dogs...forget about it!! Now that we have our yorkies, they go EVERYWHERE with us, everyone pets them, they meet lots of doggies at the pet stores and dog parks and are VERY socialized...I would never do that to myself or a dog again!! Since, Katy is an only dog, we go to the dog park 3 times on the weekend and sometimes during the week. She has been going since she was 4 months old. We also go to day care once a week. So I would say yes, we are socialized. |
I socialized Coco from day 1. She was around loads of people, and once she got the shots completed she was around tons of dogs. She loves kids, babies, adults, dogs, cats, and anything that breathes. :D No barking or aggressiveness towards any of them. |

This is one of the TOP things I'm going to focus on when I get my yorkie. I have a beagle and she is wonderful, super sweet and not aggressive at all (it's funny - she prefers the little tiny dogs way more than the big dogs cause they don't overwhelm her - we even took her to the tiny dog social group at doggie daycare cause the employees recomended it, ha!) but she is shy in public (she shows interest in dogs and people but it's very overwhelming for her). So I'm going to take my yorkie everywhere and introduce the yorkie to all kinds of different people and dogs, sounds, places. We're working on conquering Shelbie (the beagle's) public shyness. So we want to just start from day 1 with the yorkie and work really really hard on taking her to as many places as we can. It's a MUST in my opinion. I'm actually most excited about that aspect. I want to mold my future yorkie to be very comfortable and confident. :) (This is like having a child, isn't it? Ha) |

Maggie and Kizzy both love other people and kids. But as far as other dogs their not around any others. My sister has a schnauzer , like 25 lbs,but we dont take our dogs to each others houses. They have the whole front yard to play in and they have each other. They see other dogs but all the dogs here are way big dogs that I dont even know who they belong to. we live in an area of cattle farmers and soybeans, corn and such. Yet we're only 5 miles to a big college and about 9 miles up to the big shopping areas. So we're out, yet in. I like it that way. But most places must not allow dogs as I never seen any in stores except the pet depot. But we always lived in sub burbs till 8 yrs ago when we bought this place. To me their socialized enough. Their happy. |
