Im sad.... Ive seen so many yorkies with gorgeous full coats and perfect top knots here on YT the past few days. Chloe doesnt have this. She has short broken hair all over and especially around her mouth, face and neck. She has allergies so she scratches her hair breaks it all off. And about a month ago I started feeding her nutro gourmet food along with her nutro dry food and I have also been giving her the nutro desserts which she absolutely loves and its making her hair on her face messy and it breaks off. Ive tried to spoon feed her to control the mess but that didnt work. So what do I do? Cut her hair short and just try to let it grow out again? That is sort of what Ive been doing and we have quite a weird hairline going on- long in some places and short in others. Or do I put her back on just dry food and start the benedryl back up? Benedryl makes her sleepy and I try to only give it to her when she her allergies are really acting up. And to top off my frustration, I gave her a bath tonight and used to much leave-in conditioner and now she is greasy  Way to go shana! Dont you just hate that?! |
What about just taking a sloppy wet wash cloth to her face after she eats so the food doesn't stick to her hair. |
I don't know what you're talking about. I see pics of chloe all the time and she is gorgeous with pretty hair. YOu have a lovely dog!! Let me see a pic of what you're talking about. |
i think chloe is precious! |

I do this and I dont know why it doesnt help. I kinda think she is actually breaking off her hair while she is eating. Like I think it goes into her mouth and she ends up eating it with the messy wet food. |
Maybe you could try what some dog show people use to keep long eared dogs hair out of their food. I think their called scnoodles or something like that it may help keep her hair out of her mouth. I just don't know if she would eat with it by her face though. The Missing Link has really helped Cali but the only thing I am trying to figure out is if this is what is causing her to scratch. I don't think so. I am thinking of havin allergy tests run to determine exactly what is causing her to scratch so much. |
Ahia is broken off like that, i think because she chews on things so much. |
Adding Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids (like Missing Link) to her diet will do a lot to help her allergies and her coat. I would definitely suggest you give it a try. That's usually the first thing vet's suggest with skin allergies. I have a thyroid disorder so my own hair was breaking off. The only thing I have found that works for me is a Redken product called Antisnap - maybe it would work for dogs. |
Here's a link that tells you all about fatty acids and the best sources. http://www.pethealth101.com/arthriti...attyacid.shtml |
1 Attachment(s) When I give Cha-Cha wet food or treats like yogurt or cottage cheese, normally I will wrap her whisker and beard (see pic). By this way, her hair will not go into her mouth and her food plate while eating and will help her face clean. Or if I don't use wrapping technique, I will put rubber band to her whisker and tie it to the back of the head. Oh, another suggestion I can think of is hand feed. I think it's better than spoon feed. |
I know how you feel. Sadie's coat will never be like some of the beautiful ones we see here. And her hair is really fine, so even if she would leave in a top knot, it doesn't stay well. And the hair on her head does tend to break easy, too. It used to be very long on top of her head & really silky, but not anymore. Sadie & I think Chloe is VERY cute!!!! |
I see alot of people talking about Cowboy Magic, have you tried that? A couple drops of baby oil in her bath water might help. Or, maybe try a little olive oil in her food? I think Chloe is really pretty! |
oh ...I forgot to tell you something......Chole is very adorable and looks great. Please don't be sad :cheer: |
Girl I feel your pain, my Lexi had a beautiful coat til she started getting the itchies. I have done blood test and 2 skin test. My poor girl is allergic to everything. I was useing the missing link and about a month later she was itching worse than ever. My vet read the ingredients and told me to stop giving it to her that she was allergic to the yeast in it. I felt like such a bad mommy. She is doing better but still itches all the time. I am considering a puppy cut for her too. Good Luck |

Ahhhh...every time I see a pic of Chloe, she looks absolutely adorable! I hope you get it figured out what to do for her!!! Please cheer up!!! |
Hey girl - Chloe is cuter than a button. She looks cute in short hair What I use on my girls is Sea Breeze - it's susposed to be anti-breakage and it's a very light water based oil - have you tried that ? Also - something I picked up in PetCo when Chanel was itchy is a spray on Skin Conditioner - it worked for Chanel in less than 24 hours - no more scratching |
I think Chloe is gorgeous Shana! When I got my second furbaby, I wanted mine to look like yours! LOL! She is always sooo cute in her pictures! |
first chloe is gorgeous !! & try missing link we've been using it & WOW its made a huge difference ! |
Shana.....Chloe is adorable. I always look forward to the pics you share of her. She is a beautiful yorkie....no matter how long/short her hair is! You are a very lucky mommy to have such a great little girl. |
Well I trimmed her hair. I messed up and made it really short in the chest area :( And her face looks really choppy. I used to be good at this I dont knwo what happened or how to fix it. |
do you feed her the Nutro Ultra or just Nutro? I wonder if the corn in the Nutro has something to do with her allergies? :questione :idontknow But any pic I have ever seen of her, she is beautiful! |

I dont know, we buy big bags and dump it in a huge container with a lid that snaps so it stays fresh, so I cant remeber which nutro I buy since I no longer have the bag. I kinda think its nutro ultra. I just went and looked at the nutro natural choice gourmet food that I give them and I looked at the ingrediants in that and I dont see an corn in it. Is nutro Ultra better than regular Nutro? |

chihuahua On the pic her coat looks nice. |
Chloe is so pretty. :) Don't be sad. ;) She's a really cute girl. :D |
Shana, your Chloe is beautiful! Just georgeous and so well groomed. Unfortunately, all of our kids don't have those draggin' the ground show coats. I finally broke down and got Chizzie cut..... after struggling with her coat for two years, my Chizziewink is now sporting a Snork cut -- Schnauser/Yorkie combo. As far as the allergies go, are you sure it is a food allergy and not an enviromental allergy? |

I saw Chizzie's pic and I was amazed at how thick and healthy her coat looks all around the face. Your picture was one of them ones that made me envious yesterday, lol. I always though it was an environmental allergy since it seems to come and go and my vet said that allergies can be seasonal and I am having super bad allergy problems the past month so I figure maybe somethign in the air is bothering Chloe also. BUt I have never considered her food so I am goign to do a little experimenting with that. |
