New Spay/Neuter And Microchip Ordinance in LA County

I want to find out if anyone living in the Unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County is affected by the new "NEW SPAY/NEUTER AND MICROCHIP ORDINANCE"

"In an effort to improve public safety and reduce the number of stray dogs overwhelming our animal shelters, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has passed an ordinance that requires all residents of unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County to have their dogs spayed or neutered and have an identification microchip implanted in each dog. The measure applies to all dogs over the age of four months kept in unincorporated (non-city) areas of Los Angeles County."

Sorry I was so brief there on my above post, I just noticed you are new, a wonderful site here and group of folks. Welcome.

I felt the need to come back and repost because you many not know what the pm means. I have talked to them at the county office in person and this is my understanding
EVERYONE in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County is affected by this new law. I inquired about the approved purebred dog breed clubs, they are being swamped with people wanting in since this new law went into affect. Depends on the registration of the dog as some of the registrations are not being recognized by the clubs nor the county Good luck in getting in one of the clubs. Great that the county is telling us which is recognized and what isn't Being allowed an exemption within one of the recognized clubs is that you must have shown your dog in the last year in a dog show and here after every year (show proof to the county animal control that this is so) which gives an exempt on non spay/neuter however the MICRO CHIP is an absolute MUST. MANDATORY ALL THE WAY, NO EXCEPTIONS I had no problem with micro chippping ours. I have since learned there are states that don't even license dogs but they must have the micro chip. If you want to breed your purebred dog then you must pay $250.00 per year then plus the non spay license fee of $60.00 If one does breed then they have to account to the county per each puppy born and then in turn fill forms out and notify the county to whom, address, phone number of the person that got the puppy whether it was given away or sold. That is important cause they said if that isn't done properly then the breeder gets fined. IMO Once again those irresponsable people that own a dog have brought all this about. We have read in our local paper very recent of several attacks on two horses by stray dogs. These unlicensed dogs were owned by people that just let them run loose and didn't care. Are irresponsable people going to abide by any law passed? I think not, there has been a leash law as long as I can remember but then once again irresponsable people never adhered to that one either, there will be a continuation of strays and puppies galore being whelped just like they have all along, it truely is a sad situatin but this law isn't going to change that.
Sorry for my rambling, I had bought this subject up about the time it came into affect and not many people against this new law spoke up then nor are speaking up now, they really and truely need to. It can be revoked if enough people speak up.
