I'm surprised they let you into the barn. We went to an Amish farm last week and they would not let us into where the dogs were kept. A young girl went & got out three puppies for us to look at & although they looked fine, I was just sick wondering how many were closed up in cages in that barn with the No Trespassing sign. They listed that they sold about 12 different breeds and the 3 puppies she brought out were all different breeds. The young girl gave us their phone number to call about future dogs & after a little research, I see they also sell on the internet. We have been to Paradise, Intercourse, Bird in Hand at least one and usually two or three times for the last 10 years. I am actually so disillusioned that I don't believe I could ever enjoy going again and I did send emails to the PA gov & tourism bureau regarding this. |

What I do find funny is the Amish don't believe in modern conviences - yet they have websites and phones to sell puppies. Makes you wonder doesn't it. |
2 Attachment(s) I have to admit, if It wasn't for this site or the animal planet on tv, I would not have been exposed to bad breeders or puppy mills. I have never owned a dog before we received Misha. I was really stupid about all of this. I looked at puppies at the pet store, not knowing where they came from. Searching web sites for a cute one, not knowing how it was raised or what questions to ask. I did read a lot about the breed before getting Misha. I even puppy sat for a friend that had one. My biggest concern was, I have asthma. Would I be able to cuddle without a reaction? I didn't have a reaction to the maltese. When looking for Misha & Piper, knowing what I know now, I would have taken a lot more time. Instead of jumping on a cute picture I saw. Although where we got Misha, the breeders were wonderful. The 1st pic is Misha as a baby. |

The websites you are seeing is by Mennonites or brokers. That is also the case with the phone numbers you are seeing. You will never see a website that is made by an Amish person. Here are some funny FACTS thoough that might be interesteing. Amish will not own a car... but will ride in one. Amish won't have electric stuff... but will have GAS powered things like refridgerator, gas powered tools or farm equipment. Amish have CELL PHONES:eek: Amish have phones(some) but only conduct BUSINESS on them .(supposedly) I do want to point out though that Amish have different orders. they have New order and Old order. The Older Order are truly the ones I respect more because they really do not use ANY modern convieniences at all or bend any rules like the stuff I said above. |
